4 Outs and 7 Ins! This is not good for our team stability. If you'd asked me immediately after the Hawks game if we'd win this week I wouldve said we're a huge chance, now I'm not so sure, as surely Robbo wont play either, and Holland has to have a big question mark as well. No Rivers or Carroll or Whelan?

Cale has the flu. Bummer!!! Him and Davey will rob us off a lot of skill.

My interchange would consist of Colin Sylvia, Paul Johnson, Paul Wheatley and ADEM YZE. Welcome back son.

Also, good to see Dutchy named.

Lets hope the bench is:

Paul Johnson (won't get dropped)

Sylvia (form before injury says so),

Dunn (to play full forward with Robbos late withdrawal)

Yze (time to give him a crack, he's earned it with his Sandy form)

Cant see Bode or CJ being on our list next year, and Wheats needs a run for fitness after injury as seems to be our policy this year...

plenty of changes... paul williams said that the form of dunn, CJ and Yze had been good for Sandy...

I'd like to see the interchange read:

P. Johnson, C. Sylvia, P. Wheatley, C. Johnson

Yze to come in if Robbo doesn't come up from his corkie

unfortunate to see Valenti miss out on the squad, but gives him a chance to go back to the VFL and get some touches again... should be given another chance, especially ahead of bode...

What a crap team.

Davey and Morton would have had a field day. We will still win by 5 goals.

Interchange will hopefully be: Dunn, Sylvia, Wheatley and PJ.

Wheatley has to play, he has been in great form this year. PJ will definitely play as the back-up ruckman.

That really only leaves 2 spaces and so you would think we'd stick to the youth policy and go with Dunn/ Sylvia/ Bode/ CJ.

Davey missing the two matches this year I'm actually keen to win (Saints and Pies) is devastating. He was just returning to form too!

The Saints are playing on their turf, with their crowd, still have talent and will come out fired up.

We will have to play as well as last week and for a full 100+ minutes.

We have a great chance but I expect a tough, hard and close game.

I never thought I'd see the day that Rivers was kept out of the team by the good form of Garland and Warnock!

Oh yeah, shattered about Valenti. Deserved to keep his spot ahead of Bartram and Bell IMO.

I think you'll find Rivs just didn't get up, hes too good NOT to have in if fit...

Agreed that potentially way to many changes and Valenti should have been retained. His form in 2 games has not set the world on fire but been serviceable. I could appreciate if it was to make way for first 18 players but only White and Wheatley are starting 18 out of that bunch. Hoping for a bench of PJ, Wheatley, Silvia, CJ.

Nonsense.

I really rate the St's mid field and forwards (and rucks). Their backs are their weakness.

They deserve to be favourites, and I expect them to win.

Sad about Valenti - I hope/expect he will get more chances.

I think you'd find that unless Garland and Warnock were so good last week Rivers would play. Having other backmen in form for the first time in a long time allows us to be cautious with Rivers.

One of McEvoy or Gardiner won't play (both are ruckman)

I'd expect Armitage and Ferguson to play.

Raffle it between the rest

Extremely dissapointed about Shane and what a [censored] of a thing to do to him. He can't go back this weekend and play VFL because it is the state week and the Vics are playing which he could have played for up untill he got his first AFL game. Now obviously you would take your first game whenever you can but to play him only 2 games and then drop him for no obvious reason is just ridiculous! They may aswell have let him play for Victoria and then played him after this week. I don't know what goes on in this blokes (DB's) head. Seriously!

I agree. Add Bode to those who should be behind Valenti in the queue as well.

CJ's last chance?

I think Valenti would have matched up well to St mid-field. I don't see Bode or Johnson doing that.

Not happy with Valenti's omission.

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
