Who gets No 9

Featured Replies

Either retire it for a year, or give it to the first round draft pick of 2009.

But i'm also with Finks! If we get Jonno Brown i think he might be deserving of it........just!

Chris Johnson

Agree, it was his Dads number!

(Good old sheep dog)

the answer is obvious... whoever neita thinks should get it... let the big man decide..

just imagine being a first year player and having neita present the jumper to you saying good luck kid i have faith in you..

lol you would grow a extra leg...(although that could be embarrassing)

Give it to the captain. whom ever gets the captaincy from now on gets no 9

Naitanui! or Chris Johnson. If it was my dads number I would want it.

God I wish Alan was still Playing! There was a Bloke who had a dip. 88 Elimination Final Got a Perfect score at the B&F in the Voting. Great night was had..

My tip is Paul Johnson will ask for it.

And if not him i would give it to Valenti, he would respect it and want to di the number proud.

That'd be cheeky of Paul to be given the great Jim Stynes' number, only to then ask for the great David Neitz's number!

My bet is Michael Newton.

Juice has got half a season left in '08 to prove, not only that he is worthy of persisting with next year and beyond, but also (hopefully with some encouraging performances at FF if/when he gets back into the team), that he could take the #9 in the future.

If there are commitment and attitude problems there now with Newton, imagine how much growth and sense of purpose he will take into '09 and the rest of his career- after being handed the no. 9 as the immediate successor to David Neitz.

If there was ever going to be anything that would motivate and fire up Juice- change his attitude, this would be it.

A little off topic, but does anybody know if someone can change numbers during the season? Just out of interest

i think from memory farmer changed from 33 to 8 then back to 33 in the one season...

Hmm...

One natural progression would seem to be if we picked up Hurley in the draft - ignoring Naitanuia and Rich, the hype about them means that Freo and West Coast will grab them with picks 1 and 2 : )

Hurley has played very well at CHB and is now being played as a forward option. From what I can gather his build, style and potential stardom all fit well with Neita's number 9.

I think it's worth saying to a player who obviously would be under no doubts that they are good - here's a champions number, wear it, be it.

Might also help Cale Morton deal with the pressures like this week being announced by various pundits as a '250 game multiple best and fairest winner'. Kudos to us on Demonland for keeping a lid on it and just saying 'great game'.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
