James McDonald. If not him (because of age), then Brad Miller. He's good enough to get a game and appears to bring a great culture and work-ethic to the Club. What he loses for lack of talent, he (in my opinion) makes up for in enthusiasm and dedication. Flame away.

We should all take it as read that we don't have players that are suitable to be captain. Whoever we pick will either be not quite up to it yet, or just not quite up to it at all...

That said, a few years ago no-one at Geelong was suitable to be captain either. And now look at them.

It's a short list of about 6-8 players, and the one that'll be chosen will be whoever is in vogue at the start of next season, when they HAVe to make a call...

Brad Green

Cam Bruce

Jared Rivers

Brock McLean

Nathan Jones (WAY too young)

Brad Miller

James McDonald

And that's not counting Yze, Robbo or White who SHOULD be up there, but aren't seriously considered by anyone.

Yze's out of the side, Robbo's too erratic, White's probably too old and isn't having as much of an influence (however i agree he should be considered in the group).

lol the question isnt about being the best player..

its whose the best leader.

so you can lead by example = Nieta

or you can use your voice = vossy

if it was by example i think jones is a standout.. young but gives everything all the time

If it is about voice maybe jeff white.. if there isnt anyone suitable at the moment because the are considered too young give it to jeff he is gonna be around for maybe 2 more years the brock, jones, even Pj will have matured and might be the way to go.

If millertime gets it i am quiting the club.

oops forgot bruce... he would be better than white or greeny irvers would be a certainy but doesnt see enough games

It is pretty sad to say but on current form I don`t think any of the Leadership group deserve to be the next permanent Leader of our club! On form alone this year Brad Green has probably been the most consistent performer despite being dropped from the leadership group but he is not Captain material. Help me out here , I am seriously scratching my head as to who deserves it right now!

It does not have to be the best player, to be captain. But it must be a player with total respect from the group & who does all the team things including sacrificing his own game for the betterment of the team.

It needs to be a player with utmost courage putting his body on the line for the team. He must fly the flag for teammates but not overstep the line, showing the way. ( McDonald, Rivers, Miller ) hmmn, who else?

Give Brock the captaincy and see how he relishes the oppurtunity

its a hard choice to make itseems.. probably do what some of the others have done and give it to a few until someone steps up .. bit like brisbane and stkilda a feww years ago..

no one mentioned robbo???? But he can sing lol..

Rivers would be ideal.

Rivers would be ideal.

I agree if he could get out there! Poor guys is so bloody injury prone, but if could string some games together there is no doubt he is an integral part of our team and has the guts to go back into packs.

Someone with a deep manly voice

I think it should be given to a Young Bloke. But only after a few years of a "temp" captain. Put them in the leadership group and throughout next season start giving them a little more responcibility. I think this will also allow them to grow into the role as he ages.

Next year will be Jones' 3rd season, maybe not enough confidence...yet. Brock is a great player but i don't see him as a leader. Bate is another contender but needs to find his voice more. Juice is also a youngster but may have the potential.

We have to give it to someone with marketability. In that case, I would give it to Robertson, no questions asked. However, as it appears he will miss the rest of the year I think Aaron Davey would be a very good, albeit left-field, candidate. He is certainly more polished re his media work these days.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
