Not for me. I took it for what it was; a crack at Y_M. No problems here :D

Thanks Nasher.

Certainly meant no disrespect to our non city members.

Just enjoy taking the P>>S out of Y_M .:lol:

If we dont get serious and go the major cleanout of the top end and get as many top 20 as can this year we will be in trouble given the draft concessions going to be given to Gold Coast & West Sydney in the years to come

Who says this draft is going to be a ripper? Why get rid of players for the sake of it. Every other club has the same problem with the impending concessions. All it means is recruiters are going to have to work harder.

Name me 3-4 Melb players who are worth top 15 picks? (players you are willing to trade)

Did you not read my other comment:

'If the rumours about Green are true (hopefully they are not)... trade him and our 2nd round pick to Carlton for their 1st rounder. Also, we don't have to trade our top youngsters to get good picks either... but we can upgrade our picks by adding some candy to the deals. Eg. Pick #17 & Bell (just a random name) to Port Adelaide for pick #10.

When that is all said and done (assuming we finish last with a priority pick), this is the outcome:

We now have picks #1, #3-7 (Carlton's 1st rounder), #10. We lost Green and Bell and pick #18... not a bad base to start some serious rebuilding from.'

Trading isn't necessarily offering one thing and getting another in return. I know there aren't many players on our list worth top-15 picks alone... however, if you add other picks to those deals, you can get these better picks

Do you think we will win a premiership before 2011-2012? I don't... so even though it would hurt the club short term, maybe we should think of trading players who are 26 or above, and may have some worth on the trade table... because these players will be around 30 in 3-4yrs time.

Blokes like Green, Bruce, Wheatley, Whelan, Carroll would hold some value for clubs who are on the verge of a top-4 spot, and could get them that one step further. If you add a pick in the 20s to any one of those players, you would be looking at a top-15 pick in return.

A week is a long time in football and 15 weeks is an eternity.

As little as two weeks ago I'd bet that almost everyone on this site would have pencilled Warnock in to be delisted, however the form that he's shown since then has been very, very encouraging. If he continues and (dare I say) actually improve then a delisting would be highly unlikely. Same goes for Jamar and Miller (although is still contracted for another season).

Perhaps Bailey is the key in this, regardless I won't be making many more presumpions on what will happen until the end of the season except for a few obvious ones liek Neitz, Yze & Holland.

Neitz and Yze are Veteran Listed, and are also retiring at the end of the year, without doubt.

by 2009, the following players will be eligible for veteran status to replace them -

White

McDonald

Robertson

and I think it's counted as 'starting their tenth year' so that would include

Bruce

Green

Wheatley

Whelan

So whoever is still around of that list can be made a veteran status player, and half of their pay is no longer counted towards our salary cap.

So... With Neitz, Yze and presumable Holland all retiring, and two of the above players gaining veteran status...

And the final $200,000 attached to Travis Johnstone also expiring... (We agreed to cover some of his salary in our salary cap, for the Lions)

I reckon all up we could be looking at more than a million dollar opening in our salary cap.

And it's my vague understanding that we already had a fair amount of room in our cap as it was.

So...

Who do you want?

Should be looking at Cox and Ball?

(sorry, had to say that)

Imagine the off-field activities if these three somehow arrived at the same club..

Target Kerr. As if he wouldn't want to play with Warnock, Mclean, Jones and possibly Natanui for the rest of his career. Imagine what having Kerr would do for the careers of Mclean, Sylvia and Jones.

If we were gonna attract a big name I'd like it to be a KPP such as a Brown, Fevola or Pavlich.

Agreed... but I'd rather a KPP that is 25 or under. Franklin, Roughead, Hawkins, Gumbleton. Even Thorp and Dowler from Hawthorn, both were first round draft picks... and are said to be future stars. Just got to wonder how they are going to fit into the Hawks forward line... could be an opportunity for us to pounce.

We won't get a Pav or a Brown.

Im telling you, Kerr is the way to go, at 24, he would be a fast paced skillful almost certain brownlow winning midfielder for the future.

We could easily trade for him, pick him up in pre-season draft and we could afford.

With Yze etc leaving we will have the money to pay this guy enough money to make sure he doesn't want to go anywhere else. Stuff Judd, I like Kerr more anyway.

I'd give R.R.'s left nut to get Daniel Kerr

99% sure he is in contract, but still, would love Kerr!!

If RR is willing I say lets do it!!

before you worry about what players you're going to get from other clubs we need to work out what is happening with our own lists... we can only bring so many players onto our list, as there needs to be a spot for them...

Out:

Neitz

Yze

Holland

Weetra

Bode

that's 5 players... weetra wasn't up to AFL level when he got a run, and pretty much dropped straight down to sandy 2's... obviously not up to it... Bode not up to it either, will always be a mediocre player in my opinion, and needs to make room for someone else, only question is was he given a 2 year contract when he was elevated? I hope not...

now this is assuming we finish last with 4 wins or less and get a priority pick...

In:

Pick 1

Pick 17

Pick 18

Pick 44

Pick 60

PSD Pick 1

Wonaemerri

Valenti

That's 8 picks or players. So I think we need to again increase the number of players that we remove from our list.

Other possible players to go include C. Johnson, S. Buckley, M. Jamar... Could we see Jamar traded, and Buckley or Johnson delisted then rookied? It is also possible players like White or Junior also retire...

Posted

id say Chris Johnson has had his chances now. He should be de listed. Obviously Holland, Neitz and Yze will 'retire'. Agreed Bode is not up to it. Unconvinced on Weetra.

So id say out

Neitz

Yze

Holland

Bode

C Johnson

Trade Jamar

probably still need to get rid of two more.

id say Meesen, Weetra, Buckley are all on thin ice and need to perform.

interesting thread to see how far we've come in two preseasons and how big a change it will be once a lot of the older brigade leaves at the end of this year

http://demonland.ugbox.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=644

With the players we have retiring. I would make a play for the best uncontracted player and look for a 3-4 year deal. Not sure (other than Brown) would be the target but we could use a gun player in any position on the field. Someone under 25 would be preferable. That would halt the need to spread the salary cap money around also. :)
