I loved him as a player, seemed to have time and space and clean hands and looking at that clip he plays better than Hunt! But that is just one play so you can't make a real comparison. Hopefully Hunt keeps on improving, he potentially has more weapons.

Jack Trengove, Jake Spencer, Mitch White and Liam Hulett de-listed

Did they both have foot problems? The OX blames their premature elevation to the captaincy by that 2 year disaster at the club known as Neeld. -
Agree don't let him play VFL next season that seems to be where these hits happen. Recover, train well and play the NAB cup and then seniors only next year, fingers crossed!

The great steal. West Coasts first goal in extra time was likely touched off the boot but not reviewed then the last free was dubious given the similar ones that weren't paid perhaps 20 times prior in the game.

Equal quickest with Coleman and if he had kicked straighter would have got his 100 in 15 games instead of 21.

What were Diesel Williams' stats for meters gained in his Brownlow years? I know they didn't do those stats then. My memory was when he was in the middle he was a master of the quick, short handball to someone in a better position, more than kicking the ball to a position because he was so often in the centre of a dense maul of players. Clarrie seems to have potentially, a similar set of skills.

VFL 1st Qualifying Final - Williamstown v Casey Demons
Earl Hood replied to Drunkn167's topic in Melbourne Demons
Should have hidden him in the Development league once we realised his potential. Difficult to do I know. Sydney has its academy so they have their own catchment, also I guess, do Brissy, GWS, and Suns so they don't have to hide any talent, they just draft it. We all suspect West Coast and Adelaide of doing plenty to hide or discredit local talent so we pass. No draft gifts for us I am afraid. -
I would like to see Garlett have a rotation through the middle in each quarter and Clarrie go forward for a period each quarter. Garlett can be quite creative at centre bounces and I believe Clarrie could be a difficult matchup in a forward pocket every now and then.

Socceroos v Japan we are playing well but just went one down. Wasn't that off side? I always struggle with that rule, I thought you were not allowed to run forward of everyone else like that, to receive a pass?

This is the guy who was compiling 25 to 30 possessions a game last year at least and on top of his very competitive hit out numbers. I must admit I have not checked his numbers this year but is he now gone so quickly?
-
At the time I thought we should take him because Scully and Trenners were potentially two very good vanilla players but did we want 2 of the same? Martin was known to have a bit of mongrel and was a different beast but was a very effective as a player and generally rated in the top picks. And boy at the time, did we need some mongrel, aggressive types rather than what we already had plenty of.

I wanted to see him playing more time at half forward because he can take a mark and he can kick a goal. But the fact is we needed him in the middle big time because for much of the season we didn't have our best mid line up, Viney and/ or Jones, Tyson, Vince etc. He kept racking up 30 plus possessions per game but perhaps his impact lessened toward the end of the season.

Anyone know when open training is on this week? There is nothing on the MFC website.

Statistically we dropped away after round 15 for some reason. Well down on tackles, clearances, scoring efficiency after round 15 whereas prior to that we were top 5. And we were getting experienced players back in the last 6 rounds, Gawn, Jones, Watts etc yet we played worse than when we had up to 5 of our best 10 or 12 players out thru injury or suspension mid season. It may be that it took to round 15 for sides to work out our game plan and how to negate it. And we had no plan B

Why do these players need motivation? It is obvious isn't it? But they do they need direction. That should be Goodwins only job.

When we were playing well with a full list, Jones was playing half forward, half back brilliantly before he was injured. When he came back he had to into the middle because Viney was struggling, then injured. To me one the changes since round 15 is that we didn't have that luxury, Jones playing outside roles. He can play another 2 years if he is allowed to play on the outside. Hopefully next year it is Viney, Tyson, Oliver, Maynard or JKH on the inside and Jones, Lewis and others on the outside.

Can we at least keep Watts who is about the only bloke I trust with ball in hand. I know he has other issues but yesterday he showed up in the first quarter, while a dozen others didn't. O Mac is getting better, TMac needs to play forward from now on so we need a key back replacement. Yes we need to trade and draft players who can kick and make decisions, our skill errors yesterday just killed us and me for that matter.

He was the only Dee to show up for the first quarter I saw that. He lost momentum after Hogan went off as he became the number 1 forward and attracted more defenders and playing forward is no fun when all we do is bomb it long to forwards when they are out of position and out numbered.

Yes I went up to Surrey Park, Box Hill to watch him play, forget what year it was 84? I lived down the road at the time. Not many people there. He played against or for Saint Leo's Wattle Park I think at centre half forward and had a couple of tall blokes on him but he just kept snagging pack marks and kicking goals. It was a master class on how to use your body to hold your ground against bigger bodies and take a grab. I don't remember him flying for pack marks, he just was always where the ball was falling and holding the other guys out. The game was played on an oval that is now buried below the Box Hill Aquatic Centre! Fuzzy but great memory of seeing a great player up close. And yes he kicked double figures, not sure it was 14.

The adventures of President Donald Gump
Earl Hood replied to Earl Hood's topic in General Discussion
Why did Bannon leave? It just seems everyone working for Trump is jumping ship or being asked to walk the plank, except Trump's near of kin! What is going on on tje inside, although we may not want to know, as it is just chaos. -
But Praha didn't you nearly break your hand hitting a seat at half time? And by the way did you do that in the northern stand in Melbourne Reserved area where I was sitting nearby?

What have the Romans or the English for that matter, supply ever done for us eh, You could say! Actually it would be interesting to know the life expectancy of our indigenous peoples pre contact. The more you read about their known life styles as it is being reinterpreted in recent times (refer Bruce Pascoe) it seems they may have done as well as anybody up until the recent invention of pharmaceuticals. They had no viral, contagious diseases, no plagues, no bacterial diseases associated people living in close proximity in cities. And they only worked a few hours a day to meet their food requirements because they weren't required to supply arms and time to some hierarchical tyrant and his army. Which was a requirement of European society of the day. Other than that trade has been good for everyone. Interesting subject though.

Except if the Dorks win this week and next to go to 46 points and we lose the next 2 to stay on 44. That scenario will do my head in big time!
