Yes I will pay that but at times he looked slow and again produced some un Hawthorn like turnovers by foot but yes he fought well in the clinches. My wife is a Hawks supporter and reports that Gibson looks to be cooked after two games. Amazing how a well oiled machine like the Hawks when it is flying as a unit can cover the individual weaknesses of aging players, until last year of course when they went out in straight sets. Not sure how JL is going to travel throughout this year. Fingers crossed

The adventures of President Donald Gump
Earl Hood replied to Earl Hood's topic in General Discussion
Meaning what? Looks like Donald is very high maintenance at this stage. -
Brian or Brain Taylor? I am not sure who Brain is! Certainly not the bloke on 7 surely.

If you google molten salt you will find numerous cases of its use in large scale and smaller scales solar power systems. Of course it could all be fake news.
-
A legitimate question Jara. All I can say is the technology involved with batteries and solar PV cells is likely to be subject to Moore's Law, that is costs are reducing while capacity is doubling every 2 years, like semi conductors and most electronic componentry. This is the tram to be on. In contrast coal is not going anywhere technologically. Carbon capture is not happening for coal burning power plants despite President Gumps latest pronouncement about clean, clean coal, really clean coal and more jobs in coal. Too expensive compared to solar, wind, then gas.

As I said earlier Special, sheer luxury! The stories I could tell you about growing up, six of us kids, in a shoebox on the High Street, no parents, they died before I was even conceived! Don't go looking for sympathy from me. Abject poverty can be character building! Look what it has done for me, Special. Toughen up, embrace your abject poverty and turn it into a positive experience, you can aspire to a better life if you just work hard enough. Now you may not get paid award rates but don't let that deter you just keep working for the better life that is always just over the horizon.

TEAM SELECTION AND MATCH PREVIEW - ROUND 2
Earl Hood replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Apparently Hogan didn't train today, The Age, ankle problem but expected to come up. We trained today but oddly no reports. -
Special has Batman Park become overgrown with trees since I walked past just a few weeks ago? Very odd! The trees must be blocking the view to the Yarra. Do you get WiFi in there?

Sheer luxury I say!!

Hummf. Being an Earl is not good enough eh Uncle, you now take advice from a Marquis. After all I have done for you, like bankrolling your last ill fated escapade in Asia and your total inability to market the remarkable health giving qualities of Guava Paste, if you remember?
-
Good pick up DC I haven't watched a WWII film or Dad's Army, Hogan's Heroes for years so I am rusty on the correct WWII nickname spelling for the dreaded Huns!

Dieter did you ever take a Gerry 'attrick?

Interesting comment Nasher. My answer to you is that you are both right and wrong. You are right because I did watch footy in the 80's but I also noted this morning on channel 7 When Jordan Lewis was asked why he opted to play for Melbourne he said he wanted to go to a side that he thought was ready for a tilt at the finals and that was based on a young list that was full of talent but importantly consisted of young kids he deemed to be competitive. I think "competitive" is code for kids who have "a bit of mongrel" and I don't mean players throwing haymakers in the old era, I mean your Jack Viney types, see ball, get ball, see player, tackle player. And I think the big change in recruitment since JT took over with Todd is we have picked kids with talent and physical presence and competitiveness. That is a bit of aggro and/or extroverted self confidence! It makes a huge difference to a playing group to have some aggressive, physical types playing under good leaders who say what they think and lead by example.

Thought Watts did more than expected in the ruck contests today and won a few clear taps to advantage.

THE DROUGHT IS OVER by George on the Outer - POST MATCH DISCUSSION
Earl Hood replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes Uncle I too watched the game with two Saints friends but in the cheap seats as that is all they can afford. Good timing for me as the last time we watched a match together was the 2006 semifinal. I had been far too busy between 2007 until now to catch up with the boys but they are dear friends. After the match I said we must catch up for the rematch at the Gee. Great win but I hate Etihad, today it was a sauna I don't remember ever sweating so much at a footy match. -
He spent his last year with MFC in the seconds and I think we won the seconds flag with Bennett that year 1992? They played Bennett at CHF for much of 1992 but it didn't work as I remember it. They just didn't compliment each other unfortunately. They both could only work out of the forward square. Bit like Strawbs and jimmy as twin towers. It didn't really work but worth the experiment.,

What was he driving at the time J13?

Pro your's is a quite logical response to these concerns. However I remember thinking much the same in the Schwab era when they got rid of Junior and Bruce and later on we saw the Grimes and Trengove co capitancy decision sacrifice two careers. Each time I said to myself the MFC full time professionals must know better than me and my negative thoughts. However unfortunately my ignorant predictions came to fruition back then and we nearly destroyed the club. Let's hope this time some questionable MFC decisions actually will raise standards!

The adventures of President Donald Gump

I think Putin might have won that stoush, if only that Putin would not be fighting according to the Marquess of Queensbury Rules. -
Yes I did not understand the Viney promotion at all. Hopefully all wounds have healed but why inflict them in the first place? Make Viney sole VC to Jones, he is just a kid, Jones is a senior and solid citizen of the club. What do we gain by this versus what do we risk? Good god we have been here before in the previous regimes. I have some reservations about this decision and the Watts saga. It will be interesting to observe how this plays out.

It is the great man's birthday today, his 49th. SEN breakfast mentioned it this morning and vowed to try and track him down. Garry Lyon was less than confident of success saying he was last heard of running a fishing trawler near Coffs Harbour. They thought they may be able to make contact via Glenn. Let us hope SEN has some success.

Squirrel isn't an Egyptologist is he, Special? Professor William McElroy perhaps. Don't hit him on the head as he seems fairly harmless at the moment but he can change.
-
It would be interesting to look at who got game time in the second and third quarters. Did we have our best combo on the field in that time?

Any players who haven't appeared since half time D?

Rangie have a look at a post not two above, you might learn something.
