Tiger received a fitting send off yesterday at a place where he left so many memories and where he served the club for so many years - the MCG. There were several hundred mourners at the ceremony in the Olympic Room so capably led by friend and Melbourne supporter Tony Charlton who was indeed, a true master of ceremonies for a true master of Melbourne. Many speakers including former team mates who shared premierships with Tiger, those who played under him and worked with him at the club and in his day to day work in car sales paid tribute to the man who was red and blue through and through. Rest in peace, Ian "Tiger" Ridley and thanks for your life's work for the Melbourne Football Club.

Hasn't one player recently tested positive a third time?

Martin Pike has been appointed coach of Carlton VFL affiliate Northern Bullants reserves for 2009. Will make a great cultural addition over there and hopefully he will see a fair bit of Chris Johnson and Matthew Robert Warnock.

I would take Hislop but the fact that he nominated for this draft and not the PSD suggests we're not interested.

Tomorrow is the day upon which delisted players must nominate if they are to feature in the NAB AFL Draft on November 29. Wednesday 19 November (2.00pm) - DELISTED PLAYERS NOMINATE The alternative is that such players could opt to nominate instead for the pre-season draft on December 16. In the latter case, it's important for Melbourne because we have pick 1 in the PSD. I suspect that a lot of players who might have nominated in the past for the PSD only will now try their luck in the national draft and that the PSD is going to become even more meaningless and irrelevant than ever. According to the AFL website Ben Cousins was given the choice today by the AFL Commission to nominate for either draft and it will be interesting to see what he and others like Chris Johnson and Tom Hislop chose to do and if these players end up at the clubs they favour at the moment.

CJ didn't feel secure at Melbourne because he's played only 31 games in 5 years and he's been offered for trade two years running. Carlton apparently needs him and is prepared to throw money at him. So what's the problem? We now have an opportunity to draft an extra young kid at pick 50 (assuming we pass with our last pick to stay in the PSD). With that selection we could pick up a youngster who represented his state in the Under 18's and could become a star of the future for us. I agree we need to recruit well but this makes me more excited about the draft in 4 week's time than ever.

The "hyperbole" extended to discussion about Carroll's AA prospects on Foxtel's On the Couch but who cares about them because Sheahan, Walls and Healy are "small currency" like the rest of us. Anyway, thanks for the enlightenment Rhino. I'm so sure now that Jace Bode will be gratified to discover he was in contention for AA honours this year too!

It's not about the buckets of cash or Murphy's past history but rather, it's about the perception the club creates about itself which many supporters simply help perpetuate. If you paint yourself as a loser and see yourself as one, then you become a loser. Sadly, we're all probably guilty of this!

It's a young team and a new era for the Melbourne Football Club so why not a young skippper? Didn't North appoint a young David Dench at 21 years of age to lead them in the 70's?

Not suggesting that we trade him but I'd like to know where his head is at so far as his footy is concerned. He seemed to have lost some of his zip and the raw energy and enthusiasm he had in his early years at the club. It's a lot harder when the team isn't travelling well but Flash's output has been severely diminished in the past couple of seasons. Very few players are indispensible and you never know with Davey. That said, it's hard to accept he would be traded given that just a few weeks ago there were efforts made to recruit his brother to the club.

Apparently moving clubs next year. Would he come into consideration as a possible filler while our younger draft choices develop?

And hopefully it will happen that way. Sandringham's announcement of the end of its alignment with Melbourne was IMO premature. They should have kept it under their hats until it was appropriate for a joint announcement.

You don't have to be a genius to work that one out. The whole physical preparation team needs to be changed. Half the team was missing injured last night, the other half about 10 kilograms short of what's required and they can't run faster than their heavier oppenents. Should have been ditched before McNamee IMO.
