Will be interesting to see how he plays against a team like St Kilda because I think since he has come in he has played strong contested teams.
-
Don't want to give him excuses however our player turnover has been significant

If we beat Collingwood today I will ....

Dammit shouldn't have cut my nails yesterday! -
Probably Jones Could be the Toump but would rather he get a full game. Brayshaw you would think only if he is fatigued Watts - if you are choosing a sub I assume you want someone who could come in and provide some run/significant impact (not Watts)
-
I would be happy with that - nothing against Fitzy but think we have gone in just a bit tall. Gawn, Pedo and Fitzy on top of Hogan and Watts is one too many. Our run and spread is bad enough as it is.

Hope they weren't serving sour gummies on the plane

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 10

Sub heading then says "MELBOURNE says big man Max Gawn deserves his opportunity " (bit confusing) -
Delistings/trades at end of the season
Young Dee replied to Northern Summer's topic in Melbourne Demons
I couldn't care less about poster boys and don't really rate him either but was more thinking of the little kids. We can't expect to keep/attract young members if we don't win and play a boring brand of footy. At least through the dark days we had Jurrah, Wanna, Davey Robo etc -

Agreed - you could almost add Jetta to that list (amazing he is only 25 - feels like he's older). Problem is do any of the rest have much trade value? Howe is one that I think we could get something for but have to consider his value to the club (poster boy). Garland/Dunn - probably want to retain the few decent senior players on our list (but as you said comes down to offer) I predict that we will make around 6 - 8 delisting's depending on depth of draft and wether we can lure a free agent. Possible delisting's: McKenzie, Bail, Hunt, Riley, Terlich/Jones (how are they contracted till end of 2016? - maybe pay out contract(s)?) Possible trades: Howe, Fitzy/Dawes, Grimes (depending on small defender stocks), Toumpas (rather keep but depends on rest of year) Possible retirees: Jamar, Cross Needs: - a gun mid or 2 (to take pressure of Jones and lead the way for the young ones) - a quality Ruckman (Jamar is probably finished, Gawn is unpredictable and Spencer I don't rate all that highly) - a quality tall forward/2nd ruckman (Spencer/Gawn can really only play main ruck role, Dawes - not looking good, Fitzy - isn't great up forward, King - hard to tell) -

We said the same about Magner.... obviously he was a little more one dimensional but still don't want to overhype a mature age player again (Terlich, Georgiou) -

The midfield has been our biggest weakness for a while now but with Jones, Vince, Tyson (obv not playing) and Lumumba playing inconsistent football you'd think if those guys plus Viney turn up to play we would be a good chance. Obviously Vince has been playing more of a tagging role this year so his form is harder to gauge. Lumumba I have been a little disappointed with so far but give him time (he is playing a new role). That leaves Cross, Vandenberg, Newton, Riley, Toumpas, Brayshaw and M.Jones who can't really be expected to have great games week in week out. Hopefully in a couple years time Brayshaw, Toumpas, Stretch, Salem, ANB, Petracca and Trengove will be in that core group (maybe Vanders and Newton as well). Plus we need to score a gun mid in the off-season to take pressure of Jones and to lead the way for the young players. Right now though I struggle to see us winning games like this due to our small group of core mids. -
Eddie McGuire: Paul Roos "obvious choice" to fix Carlton

Soapies are often a bit repetitive

They must believe he can make it given the contract. We have plenty to delist at season end anyway so well worth the risk

DOn't know if its already been posted but I am happy with this Jack will be back: Trengove to stay with Dees in 2016 http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-05-29/jack-will-be-back-trengove-to-stay-with-dees-in-2016-

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 9
Young Dee replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
So stoked to have Viney and Jetta back! Probably the two blokes I respect most behind Nat Jones. Hopefully they are both match fit. Really stoked for this game (something I haven't felt in about a month) - sick of going into matches expecting little. -
Probably the same director as home and away too...
-
We are pretty much covered down back and his speed and kicking would be a concern
-
Agreed IN: Jetta, Viney, Tyson (if 95-100%) Dawes can wait
-
IS THAT AN F-BOMB? This weeks injury report: http://www.melbournefc.com.au/video/2015-05-27/rd-9-injury-report I have noticed a couple of videos this year which haven't been edited properly - I think Burgo releases the F-bomb in this one... Tyson and Dawes (probably available) Jetta and Viney (given the all clear)
-
Lets not get ahead of ourselves he only played one game down back. I was very skeptical of his selection in the back line however he held his own on the weekend so well done to him.
-
Thanks - seeing that link made me think he had extended his contract. He will be fit and firing come preseason that's all that matters. God knows what going on down there - you'd think Even Neeldy could develop that team.
-
Agreed - I think he is partly responsible for our insipid performances. He is one of a handful of senior players on our list that when challenged go into their shell. I think we have another Colin Sylvia - we all know he could be good but deep down it probably wont happen at Melbourne. On another note: His value as a poster boy for the club is I guess another factor which may need to be considered given we are struggling to attract new young members. He can also create opposition head aches when it comes to match ups and does add a bit to the forward line on paper/structure. Tough one!
