Changes for Gold Coast Round 5
Bombay Airconditioning replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
You banged on in the McKenzie thread about how he smashed Ablett, how underrated he is.....yet in your team he starts on the bench. Is Ablett starting on the bench? -
He can get a game while others are being made to find form but if all mids are fit and in form he shouldn't be playing.
-
Jordie carrys out his role better than anyone else in the team? I can only hope the coaches don't share your view.
-
After one win Jordie enjoys stardom status. I'll say it again, Pendles , Kennedy, Watson, Ablett, Barlow , Selwood can rack up huge numbers and still manage more tackles then a player who's primary role is a stopper. We know he tries but he is not the tackling machine some on here would have you believe. He's never going to be better than an average player. Bring Trengove back in and give him McKenzies role against Ablett. At least he might hurt them going the other way.

My 3 word player analysis v Carlton
Bombay Airconditioning replied to joeboy's topic in Melbourne Demons
Well if it's confidence I don't get it. When he has attacked the ball he can elude the opposition, it's not like he's getting caught all the time. The coaches should be showing him highlights of himself and say "more of the same please". -

you're right about choosing his contests, just wish he would choose a few more. -
So he's the only midfielder who can beat his opponent. Care to share?
-
Stats can be deceiving, Carlton racked up cheap stats going sideways and backwards.

Interesting reading in this thread and the player votes. Whilst not getting carried away we are starting to see the start of what could be considered depth and flexibility in some of our players. Finally a first year player (Salem) isn't rushed into the side from rd 1 and expected to be a star. Toumpas is back finding some form and Trengove is hopefully discovering why he was picked at 2. Garland to come back soon and he is down back when Hogan plays we could have three talls with Dawes and Chip. JKH must start, small forward is a specialist position, this was his first game playing with a recognised tall. Tackling is improving(effectiveness not numbers). Still some loose checking at times but again we improving each week. Would like to see us rattle the Suns.

was wondering the last time the chant went up
-
I think in the 2nd half it improved a lot.
-
Its a bloody good start, we need to tackle so that they are not able to free their arms up to dispose of the ball.
-
previous criticism was deserved

Watts at times over the past 4 games has ran through congestion, gathered the hard ball then broke away to dispose of it. Why can't this happen more often? Why is he hesitant? I know he's great on the outside but taking the game on with his skills and pace would take his game to a new level. -

Dawes- two massive goals JKH - sub no more Jones - a bloody machine Pedo - what a goal Chip- stopped my criticism Watts- still too hesitant -
Not yet.

McKenzie 2 tackles to half time, some players with donuts. Last week Ablett, Selwood, Watson, Libba and Pendles racked up huge numbers plus led the tackle count for their respective teams. Not good enough on our behalf.
-
Or does he?
-
He doesn't know how to play as a forward.
-
Chip is not a forward.
-
Why when we lay a tackle can the opposition still dispose of the ball?????????????????????
-
Play Chip on defence.

Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 4
Bombay Airconditioning replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
To be an effective tackle the player mustn't be able to dispose of the ball. Would like to see that. -
My said he say a Roos interview last week(not sure where). He spoke about in recent years the team had been mentally beat before they even run out against certain teams. He wanted players to think that every game could should be seen as a potential win(as hard as that is at times). I think in a similar way when players lift for a milestone game of a club favourite, it's crap. We need to go out and play hard, accountable footy every week. When we tackle we smash them into the ground, not this crap that Watts serves up. Everyone has to understand what is expected, if not your find yourself out if the side. Surely as has been discussed on here there must be a couple close to joining Trengove.
