With that draw no finals = no more Goodwin. No excuses

Just read on FB that Voss to Adelaide this week to meet with Draper. Blues are apparently really keen.

Assuming we keep 5 & 9, who are you picking?
Bombay Airconditioning replied to Mouseymoo's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don’t think too many on here consider themselves experts. We’re just mug punters who have watched a handful of u tube clips and have an opinion, an addiction to the game and the MFC. A few would have watched some games live but the majority don’t have the time. -

Just rewatched a Smith and Langford highlight reel, Langford every day of the week. For some reason I watch Smith and can’t help but think he’s a newer model of Caleb Daniel. -
From a self interest perspective Thursday night games are hard for interstate members to travel to. So much easier to just take the Friday or the Monday off and make a long weekend of it rather than having to take the 2 days off.

We played poorly last year and will receive a fixture worthy of that with limited prime time games. We need to take advantage of a potential easier draw as we still have the talent to be a top 4 team.

The Drums are starting to beat for North
Bombay Airconditioning replied to Sir Why You Little's topic in Melbourne Demons
The 9 games a week generates enough now for the competition to remain sustainable and at the top. How much of that extra money goes to propping up the two teams, does it effectively cancel each other out? There are no benefits to the other clubs or their supporters. We will be at 19 clubs for years and the rolling bye that comes with it. The talent pool further diluted with more blow out games. The finals system will eventually change as well. The continual rule changes, it just never ends. The game is slowly being destroyed from the inside. -
Why was it removed? Because people were offended?

We’re at 18 now and it’s working just, it’s the right number for the population to grow into, plus there’s no chance the AFL will go backwards. No one ideally wants to see an older club fold but I’d rather that than a 19 or 20 team competition. Two teams is enough for NSW, WA, NSW & QLD, I didn’t initially agree with the Suns & Giants but I could see what the AFL were trying to do plus they’re in place and nothing will change that. Yes Tasmania deserves a team but they will not be without their problems, player retention being the big one, you cant argue for cost of living. Folding a Melbourne based team for Tasmania rounds out the competition nicely. I live in Sydney but don’t follow the NRL in any capacity, my friends that do hate the rolling bye, it’s a stupid idea and doesn’t work on any level. The NRL are looking to bring in an 18th team in coming years to even up the competition, how long would we be stuck on 19 for? We only have to look at the AFLW to see what happens when you’ve expanded too quickly. 19 teams and a bye every week or 20 teams with the talent pool diluted even further, wow what a choice for the fans of the game. There’s enough blow out games at the moment without adding to that. What are the benefits of a 19th & 20th team? -
His kicking is a highlight, kicks to a teammate’s advantage not just an up and under merchant.

That would be madness.

Financially it can support as many teams as it wants but at what cost to the product. -

Potentially the next GWS / GCS with their players requesting trades after 2-3 years. Or will the AFL introduce a minimum 4/5 year contract for draftees. -

It was us years ago and we got our …. together, North haven’t. They’ve got some great kids but are a long long way off, even with their recent recruitment they will still get scored heavily against. Regardless it’s for the good of the competition. -

The news of North Melbourne selling / potentially selling home games to play in WA just strengthens my thought that 19 clubs are not sustainable in this competition. The AFLW is now realising they expanded to 18 teams too quickly. The AFL need to fold North when Tasmania enters and leave our competition at 18 teams for at least the next 50 years. This mindset of having to appease everyone is not good for the game. 18 teams works, a top 8 works, we don’t need a wildcard weekend or any more teams. -
Imagine supporting a boring club, at least there’s something always happening at the MFC to get us through the off season.

Nathan Jones joins MFC as an Assistant Coach
Bombay Airconditioning replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
He did himself no favours with his tv commentary, can’t think of a reason he would hold back. Some commentators such as Luke Hodge and Daisey Pierce I find very insightful in terms of what teams were trying / achieving in terms of tactics. Some things to a viewer are obvious, some less so. Regarding what I think of the club / coaching group, we seem to be slow to adapt at times. Clubs changed the way they played against us by trying to avoid kicking it in long & high to their fwds because we have such strong intercept marks in May, Lever and Gawn when he drops back. Yet we continued to do it even though it wasn’t working, we cost ourselves a flag in 23 even with our injuries. All we needed to do was lower the eyes and get some separation. I wish Jones well as I do anyone who is at the club and I will back him in. But as others have stated I think he would of benefited from a stint at another club. -

Do we have a skills coach? Regardless I would have thought a line coach could assist players in all aspects of their game. -

I think all fans love Nathan Jones but his commentary was hardly insightful, listening to Daisey Pierce she seemed to have a much better grasp on clubs tactics / game plans. -

If Tauru is there at 5 we should take him, then a mid at 9, if he’s gone we take 2 mids. No to Armstrong. -

Not all his marks are intercepts, can take a big pack mark. Will be a gun would to grab him at 5, can’t see him being there at 9.
