There's no middle ground for Watts this year. Entering his 8th season you'd like to think he'd be out to prove a point after being dropped for round 23 last year. He won't be the primary focus of opposition sides and whether he plays deep or roams up the ground to be the link man he has now fully matured and should be able to influence games. I thought for some reason he was extremely quick over 20 metres, he needs to start using that to his advantage.

The coaches have to be really strong with regards to the gifting of games. Grimes copped it last year, Watts was introduced to the concept, as long as it's consistent.

Who's play half back flank then assuming H is still injured? The club has identified the need for more drive off half back, hence the Melksham recruitment. Take Stretch out of the side and put Angus on the wing, or VB to the wing and Kenbedy to half forward, then there's a number of options to move on to the bench before Grimes. I've got a theory and many will laugh, this is Grimes last year and the club is trying to handle his departure with tact. The announcement of his positional change has only just come about, surely if he's training so well and his disposal has improved (depending on who's reports you choose to believe) why wouldn't he slot straight into the other back flank considering our circumstances? a position he's played for most of his career. There are a number of more talented players that are in front of him for any midfield or half forward spot. Wiseblood I simply don't get it, I honestly think Goodwin has his papers stamped, and barring a run of injuries he will get told every week that he needs to continue to work on a certain aspect of his game.

The first hint of Watts not wanting to compete he needs to be dropped and PEDO takes his spot and play another mid on the bench. Trengove needs to get through a few Casey games and play well before he can be considered. There is enough experience in the back line to play a Wagner/White plus there's a need. Still 12-24 months away from real depth. Minimal injuries a must.

For me the biggest question is then who's on the other back flank. Salems on one but that's not enough, we need a good user of the footy on the other.

If we are relying on Dawes (cooked) The Prince (overrated) Trengove (may never play again) Melksham (no comment) Newton (not best 22) Hulett (just a kid) White (just a kid) Terlich (depth player) King (just a kid) To see major improvement this season we might as well shut up shop now. Jones ans Vince must maintain their rage, Petracca could be anything, we need continued improvement and consistency from the likes of Gawn, Viney, Salem, VB, Tmac etc.

What was done to them?? My best mate coaches a certain age group/club in the TAC, he has worked with a number of current AFL players when they were juniors. They are fully aware at a young age as to what is acceptable. First year AFL players attend courses on gambling/drugs/social behaviour. Essendon cheated and got caught, the players were onboard and as we already know some were strong enough to say no.

In one preseason Grimes has gone from being a depth player who was dropped 3-4 times throughout last season (if you include rd 1) to a versatile dual position player. Keep those training reports coming....

FB article Roos was quoted as saying "we want to field a competitive side...." He needs to be held to that, there's a difference between being outplayed/having a bad game and being non competitive. One poor showing and the offending to be dropped the following round, time to set the precedent.

Well that being said he can listen look forward to getting cleaned up by Viney or VB.

Many will disagree but this is a really important game as are the NAB games for a few players on the list. Grimes being the perfect example along with Magner, Michie, White, Bugg, Kennedy etc.

Stop simplifying things you're making too much sense. All we (the fans) want is consistency with interpretation and yes, leave the bloody things alone.

Deliberate out of bounds is another interesting one, I hate when someone kicks it 30-40 metres then it bounces at rights angles and goes over the line.

So Grimes on a half forward flank? I don't think Grimes preseason warrants him automatic selection regardless of how good it's been. Let's see if he can back it up during the NAB games, then as we know home and away matches are different again.

I agree with DeeSpencer with regards to Pedo/Hulett, other than that I think your pretty close to the money with who will be playing. Halfback, kicking skills and dual position are vital as you've highlighted. I read on FB that Clark wanted a kicking coach at the Hawks in his first year, when told the club couldn't afford one he had it taken out of his wage. (Not sure how true but says a lot if it is.)
