WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BRAYDON PREUSS
Love the idea of more animals in the side. Been through the bad years of seeing our kids get bashed around every week. Preuss would add an agressive dimension deep forward and also around the ground. I like the idea.

Gaff as well would get the Norf supporters quite excited. They dont like to bottom out at Norf, do they?
-
Who are our bottom six? And where do they rate?
Interesting discussion. Our list is certainly stronger across the board than it was during our last finals campaign. I've always thought that your bottom 6 can play a big part in winning, but STARS can win games almost by themselves, and we have a couple of players now that could be considered stars. But.... Stars are also made in finals, and with a strong finals campaign, it may come to light that we actually have more stars than people realised. I'm not expecting a flag tilt this year, although its one of the worst top 8's I can recall, so anything is possible. But next year, all things equal, look out comp.

Time to show Oscar some respect!
Interesting thought. hadn't considered that. I rate Oscar. Have done for a while. MUCH better foot skills than big brother at this stage of his career, and is very reliable for such a young KPD Reads the play well, and is starting to zone off at the right times, to take the intercept marks. Has a footy brain. Ok, gets mauled occasionally by the giants, but with the way the game appears to be going, 1 position gorillas may soon be a thing of the past. With Frost showing signs of improvement, it bodes well for a flag attempt in the next few years.

How do you figure that? I would think our 2nd rd would be in play, as several clubs would be interested. Would be nice to add a huge bodied, aggressive player to the list.

This is a line that should be conveyed to Gaff at every opportunity. You can near on bet that it will happen at some stage.

Agree with this. It's been nice to see the seemingly sudden development of Sam Weidemann, with his ability to give Gawn a rest, but surely we should be looking for a capable backup for a long term Gawn injury. Its been proven how important he is to us, and we would certainly find it much much harder to be a flag winner without a full time ruckman in the middle. We are about to challenge for a Premiership, so a mature ruck backup is needed now.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CLAYTON OLIVER
Oliver will be offered $1.5m p.a by another team (most likely Norf) before his contract is up. He is the superstar that 18 teams are looking for.
-
Sam Weideman
Disagree Oscar has shown MUCH better kicking ability than big brother did in his first several years in defence, to the point where he can be relied on most times to find a target, and gets to plenty of contests. For his age and size, he is progressing very nicely. Just needs a heap more strength, and we will have a first class tall defender.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CLAYTON OLIVER
If I had 10 attempts over 2 weeks of thinking time, I couldn't come up with anything better than this to describe the phenom that is Oliver. That 3rd qtr effort was nothing short of Superstar.

Can see it now. "Who has the best midfield?" threads, with norf supporters talking up some nobody side into second, so they can then type a novel about why they are number 1 "Cunners, Zeibs and Benny J cutting the packs open, and feeding the ball to Gaffer and Joshy K. Wow, we will be invincible!" Norf suporters are my favorites.

Did Pres Trump mention Gaff playing with us next year, or did the Russians sign him already?

As obnoxious as he can be, Saty is entitled to his opinion. Only thing that counts against you Sat, is that you cannot find a negative thing to say about any Dees player, but cant find much good to say about a bloke who gets 20 bazillion touches every week, and displays traits that are an identified weakness in our list.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CLAYTON OLIVER
Scully was not a "real" case though. The AFL backed (and funded) him going, as a P.R coup for their new pet franchise, and as such, I didnt consider him. Imagine what Norf will offer him once his contract is up.

Nick Bowen Jul 8, 2018 10:00AM http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-07-06/comment-blues-roos-and-saints-should-shift-focus-to-class-of-2019-mids CARLTON, North Melbourne and St Kilda should resist the temptation to bid for older or second-tier midfielders if attempts to lure gun free agent Andrew Gaff are unsuccessful. They should instead put their chequebooks away and turn their attention to next year’s crop of out-of-contract and free agent stars, which includes some of the biggest names in the game. The Blues, Roos and Saints have been desperate to add class to their midfield groups for some time. All three clubs tried in vain to lure Josh Kelly home from Greater Western Sydney last year, while the Kangaroos also unsuccessfully dangled a $10 million, seven-year free agency offer at Richmond star Dustin Martin. This year all three were linked with Jordan De Goey – the Roos again leading the way with a $5 million, five-year offer and the Saints not far behind them – before the explosive forward/midfielder re-signed with Collingwood last Sunday for two years. All three remain in the race for Gaff, but face stiff competition from Melbourne, which shapes as his most likely new home, and Essendon. The hard-running Eagle is also every chance to resist a move home to Victoria given West Coast looks well placed to go deep into the finals in the next few seasons. If the 26-year-old re-signs with the Eagles – or if he enters free agency and signs with the Demons – Carlton, North and St Kilda should resist the temptation to snare another midfielder in this year's market.

Will be the first Dees player to be offered a long term contract over $1m p.a (not by us) Kid is a superstar in the making.

Jordan Lewis is absolutely cooked, never pick him again
I have no idea about football. I thought Lewis did some great things against Port. Treacle slow, yes, but well worth his place in the team.

Interesting theory Saty. All Australians are also a good indicator of the quality of a player.....

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - AUSTIN BRADTKE
I find it interesting that people still defer to the "big" clubs when looking at things like this. No disrespect intended, but why would it be a big deal if Collingwood and Geelong were also into Bradtke? With the way our recruiters have gone recently, it should be the other way around now. We are as good or better than anyone at spotting talent. His dad was a big big man, so I can see the young version filling out quite nicely, although Max has shown that if you have the height and talent, a beanpole ruckman can dominate at the highest level. Shows that developing a list is a 365 day a year job. It just never stops. Well done Dees, and welcome Austin. Hope you make the grade.

Just a reminder that we are playing for our 4th win in a row this week. Chin up old mate.

Andrew Gaff
The final line is my concern. We have been mauling garbage sides, and its great to finally see us putting it together against sides that we should. But, I think our true improvement can only be measured against the best teams. While I can see that we are playing with a different setup to the first few rounds, I wont be in any way convinced that a player like Gaff will be "cherry on top" material, until we start rolling top 4 sides consistently. We didn't just lose to them, we got blown away. Here's hoping.....

So Gaff would be the one thing we need to go from losing to the Hawks by 67, to being "unstoppable"? Reckon you might be overestimating his impact Pet.
