If it's the 750k rumoured, our young blokes need to suck it up, and play their asses off to justify the comparison at their next contract. If we are losing games for a finals spot against a garbage side decimated by injury, we clearly do not have lots of players worth more than 750k in it. I'm excited by the potential of many of our youngsters, but it remains Potential, not realised. Only the loss of Oliver would make me weep, as I believe he is a generational talent. We have no defender who is better than Lever at what he does. None. So why the concern?

With all of the supposed high end young talent on the list, we have finally arrived at the point of topping up with the finishing touches to have a dip at a flag. Developing another batch of 18yr olds probably wont get us into a grand final in the next 2 or 3 years, whereas adding 2 or 3 very high end talents in areas of weakness just may do that. We were always going to end up having a dip, and sell the longer term future for a solid crack at the now. I'm comfortable with paying a reasonable price if it means a flag. We would all quickly forget the price while enjoying a month long bender following that flag win. If our young blokes develop the way we hope, the time to go after the best is now.

Haven't seen enough to even guess how good the kid might be, but I have a question. Who is going to mind the Danihers, Browns Hipwoods of the world? If Lever is an intercept marking player, who will shut down the skyscrapers?

What happened to the much vaunted "War Chest" that was rumoured to be on standby? Yes, we need to pay our young talent appropriately, but if other teams with much stronger lists than us can afford to pay their guys, why can't we attract a high profile star? All talk it seems.
