Posted 01 March 2006 - 09:23 AM There was a fair bit of chat on the Lynden Dunn thread about how quick Matthew Bate is. Some, in particular Trav20, have him in the top 3 or 4 at the club. Others thought he was nowhere near that. I haven't seen enough of Bate to comment, but I found an interesting quote from Neale Daniher in sundays paper in relation to Bates pace. From the article : Bate was quick and powerful, particularly off the mark, although Daniher would not say where he ranked amongst his teammates for speed. "Let's just say he's up there," Daniher said. So where does leave us in the Bate debate?

Yes many people tend to jump on what a mate said sometimes with good reason but I think it great to post this sort of stuff if your fairly certain of your sources. So thanks for that DT.

Wow he sounded good and the panel asked some good questions. He said there were such things as coaching non negotiables and that he expected certain things from the players and that they don't need to tell him about it - he would be able to tell by their actions. He also said that in his interview with MFC (they interviewed half a dozen candidates over the time) this is what's wrong with the list, these are the players you need, go out and fix it. The minute he became Melbourne coach the last thing that was on his mind was the Collingwood midfield. He said next Friday instead of being at the Coll Hawks game he would be at Melbourne best and fairest.

Well at least most of the posters seem pretty up beat about this guy so hopefully the threads will be positive next season....seems strange timing given the filth have a few matches to go, I guess hes not senior coach though, so probably wouldnt effect that much....
