I liked the look of him in the first NAB cup game when he was playing foward, but thought he looked completely out of his depth last week. However, the whole backline looked out of their depth, and Ricky Petterd was the one to get the chop this week. Garland is obviously a good, tall athlete, but has shown me nothing yet to suggest he'll be anything to get excited over.

What are YOU going to do about it?
Jerry Lundergard replied to Straight Sets Simon's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yeah, i heard you both times this morning, you brought up the fact about Melbourne being heritage listed, which Patrick didn't want a bar of. Andy Maher has an agenda to put the Dees in the gun because he is still hurting about people putiing the Blues in the gun a few years back, so he wants the same treatment dished to the Dees. -

I was thinking that one thing us Demonlanders can do is be active in media forums where possible. I drive for a living, and therefore listen to SEN a lot. It distresses me, that we as supporters perpetuate the [censored] weak image of ourselves by our lack of voice and passion even on a small thing like talk back radio. I called SEN this morning to defend the Dees from that [censored] Andy Maher who has been trying to sell the MFC down the river every chance he gets. A few more callers got on line and defended the club as well. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen very often. I'll put out a call to arms for us to get active and vocal and defend our club in these media forums to try and help change the perception of the club and it's supporters. -
I know this was a hottly debated topic at the time of it's announcement, but after reading about our leadership group having a meeting to discuss what happened on Sunday, i thought the topic ought to be revisited. Almost everyone on this site fels pretty strongly that both Yze and Miller are not good enough to hold their respective places in the team. Now throw in Bruce, Robbo and even our skipper Neita as having their spots questioned, things look pretty bleak IMO. How can you have the leaders of your club not having the form or skills warranted for their selection in the starting 22? If they are consistently selected, it will cause players underneath them to question if they are being selected due to their standing within the club as a leader and not due to their ability. That kind of stuff eats away at the fabric of a team. If they are not selected, then where does our leadership come from? What would be they point of the leadership group? Can we change it throughout the year? When we look back on this season, and if we do as poorly as Sunday has forecasted, i believe most of us here at Demonland and hopefully DB himself will see that this is one part of where we went wrong. Finally, my leadship group for 2009 is Brock McLean, Nathan Jones, Lynden Dunn, Jarryd Rivers and Cameron Bruce.

Providing these players are fit, here is my team B Frawley Carroll Whelan HB Petterd Rivers Bell C Dunn McLean Bruce HF Sylvia Bate Bartram F Davey Neitz Green R Jones McDonald Johnson INT Moloney Morton Buckley White I have Bartram as a half foward to play a negating role on some like a Gilbee, to negate their run out of their backline. We could have used him on bateman,

I have been on the anti Jeff White bandwagon for a while now myself, and also called for trading him a couple of seasons ago while he had some value. I can't believe that anyone could have a go at PJ. He was one of the few players to actually have a dip yeaterday, and i would be happy for him to take over first ruck.

Round One team (the one TFS made up.. use the other thread)
Jerry Lundergard replied to Demon Jim's topic in Melbourne Demons
I presume that is not even the official squad that would be submitted to the AFL, as we still have at least a day to do so. Therefore quite a few changes, even to that squad could take place before the deadline. -
Schwarz was in the Hawks cheer squad as a lad growing up, and i suspect he'll be secretly wishing of a Hawthorn premiership this year. I am hoping we can get off to a good start to give me some ammuniton to get on SEN and call him out of the Hawk loving traitor he is.
-
I have been on the Dunn bandwagon for awhile now, but it's amazing how much Dunn love is going around these boards at the moment. I am hoping he can live up to the expectations that many of us now have for him. At best, i am envisioning our very own Chad Cornes type player who can go foward, back or win his own ball out of the centre.

Is Bate going to be right to play?
-
I like the look of this set up the best. Frawley did a pretty good job on on Jarred Waite last year, who has similar athleticism. But the reality is, if Buddy gets enough good supply, he will destroy us.
-
That may be more far fetched than Yze winning the brownlow.
-
Thought i would start a thread to make an outlandish prediction for the year ahead, good or bad. Here's mine.. Lynden Dunn will become of the Demons best players by the end of this season and will be handed the captaincy for season 2009.

It seems to me that Jaysoul is accusing a couple of players of not being on the grog, but dabelling in persian rugs.....hmmm. And also, do we just take it as fact the story Sylvia has told the club about his girlfirend? He is not exactly going to 'fess up that he was too wrecked to a recovery session is he? Players will tell the club what they need to to soften the blow, so i remain skeptical on that story.

Anyone going to breakfast with DB tomorrow?
Jerry Lundergard replied to TonyMelb's topic in Melbourne Demons
Just on the Leighoak, i see they have given it a new paint job and the big Demon facing out onto Dandenong Rd has gone, as well as the blue and red colours, which is a shame. I actually thought maybe they weren't affiliated with the club anymore, but if this breakfast is there tommorrow i guess not. It will be good to hear some feedback from it. -
Current AFL player's one-word analysis of Demon's problems
Jerry Lundergard replied to a topic in Melbourne Demons
You are on fire tonight YM. First you want to not renew your memebership, and now you throw a blanket across the whole of the AFL, labelling them complete wankers. I would say the ratio of wankers in any walk of life is probably comparable to AFL players, and that the reason some get picked in clubs and bars is due to them running into some of these "wankers" around town. -

The great Yze_Magic has had had a gutful
Jerry Lundergard replied to Yze_Magic's topic in Melbourne Demons
He might have been referring to you YM. Stop your whining and pay up, the club needs members more than ever. Hopefully DB and CC will slowly weed out the players who are unable to do the right thing by the club and it's members. -
I have been calling for a Sylvia trade for a couple of years now. I am hoping he shows a bit on the field this year for him to have a bit of market value so we can finally get rid of him for season 09.

I can't believe Sylvia has been with us for 5 years
Jerry Lundergard replied to praha's topic in Melbourne Demons
It would be nice if Sylvia could produce one of these feats every game, instead of across a couple of seasons. Then maybe we could all join in on the Sylvia love fest. -
Melbourne v. Kangaroos LIVE SCORE UPDATES from Casey Fields
Jerry Lundergard replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Nick Natanui must be standing in front of a mirror back in W.A. right now seeing how he looks in a red and blue jumper, because i have a feeling he's heading our way next year. Are we the only team to have lost every preseason game this year? -
The Key To Success This Year
Jerry Lundergard replied to Jerry Lundergard's topic in Melbourne Demons
Would Westhoff have been unearthed as the player he was last year if Tredrea hadn't have been injured for the start of the season? I doubt it. Nathan Thompson misses the season, but then Edwards becomes a focal point as a key foward and he steps up. I don't think that if Brock plays a full season an has a great year it will mean as much to us, as say a Bate becomeing a dominate CHF, or Frawley shutting down opposition key fowards, or if Meesen becoming great tap ruckman and help give us first use of the ball. -
I've been having a think about what it might take for the Demons to be competetive and make finals this year, and although this won't come as a suprise to most, i feel success is reliant on us unearthing one or two genuine KPP down our spine this season. If you look at the teams that made improvements last season from the one before, i would put it down to unexpected(or expected) players that raised their level of play in key postions. North Melbourne - McIntosh and Firrito Collingwood - Cloke and Goldsack Port Adelaide - Westoff Geelong - Egan and Mooney You could even think back to our team in 2006, when we were flying, one of the biggest reasons i felt was the All-Australian form of Nathan Carroll playing fullback. Coming into the last few rounds of 2005, i would not have even known who was going to play FB for us in '06, but Carroll came onto the scene, took his chance and then had a stellar year for us at FB. Also in 2004 when a young Jarred Rivers burst on the scene and Brad Miller was actually playing decent footy at CHF, that was large reason for our success that year as well. Or think of players at other teams who have had success recentley and were able to unearth players like Rutten, Glass and Bolton. I would rate our spine possibly one of the worst in the AFL, but there are a few spots along our spine that are up for grabs this year and if one or two our young players can step up to an elite level down our spine i think we will be competetive. Just who these players may be, i am not quite sure.

Paul Roos debacle....proves my theory
Jerry Lundergard replied to Spin-it-to-Goodwin-it's topic in Melbourne Demons
The only difference between us and the Swans though, is that they actually went out and belted another team by 12 goals the week after. We lost to the Tigers....
