Some people will say it is bad luck, but you only have to take a look at us to realise we are [censored] weak, and that can't help in a fierce contact sport like the AFL. Take yesterday as example, our endeavour to tackle can't be faulted, but how many times are oppostion teams able to free their hands and get a handball away when we tackle? And conversely, we get wrapped up and pinged when we try to break tackles. I don't think we present up ground when we have the ball in defence to give us an outlet to move the ball foward(think Ryan O'Keefe). Is this fitness, or desire to run hard and help out a teamate? In saying that our footskills aren't sharp enough at present to hit targets anyway. Somebody cosistently gets on here and defends Bodan, which is fine. But does anyone know why he left Hawthorn? They are easily one of the hardest running teams in the AFL now.

I'd like to see Lynden Dunn step up into a leadership role next year. He has the smarts, puts his body on the line and should have been playing all year, and i suspect next year he will be one of our most improved. As for captain, out of all the candidates mentioned, i always thought that Greeny always seemed to step up his performance when he led the team, and he has well and truly put the soft tag to bed this year with some courageous acts.

My 3 word player analysis V The Bullfrogs
Jerry Lundergard replied to joeboy's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not wanting to detract too much from the win, but we were playing a team devoid of any confidence. Other than a lucky draw the previous week, they had been getting smashed themselves. If Freo are still rolling when we meet them over there rnd 21, that is when i want to see the Demons stand up and show a bit of ticker, and not just fold in the first quarter like we have done too many times on the road over the last few seasons. Only then will i feel like we are turning the corner. -
What do people think of a possible trade between Miller to the Dogs for McMahon? They need a leading foward of some description, and we could use a bit more run off the half back line. McMahon is a bit of an unfulfilled talent case, and has fallen out of favour a couple of times this year(he was horrible last night). Could be a win-win for both clubs.

we lost all our remaining games, which would keep our priority pick and strip Carlton of the No.1 pick. or... we won our remaining three, which would include Neita's 300th and hopefully a fantastic win at Subiaco with a young team that may end Freo's slim finals chances and have some real belief and momentum heading toward 2008. Personally, i'd take the wins and momentum. We all know the top picks in a draft doesn't always equate to the best player or even team success. Building a winning culture is more important to me. The Pies and Blues are winnable games, and i would love nothing more than to finish off Freo's season as they did to us last year, so i will be cheering us on for 3 wins.

My 3 word player analysis V The Bullfrogs

These need to be swapped. Look Joeboy, i know you are a big Sylvia fan, but to say that Dunn had little impact, when he was playing a tagging role, and that Sylvia had some cameos is an absolute joke. Sylvia was poor, and my doubts on him still remain. While Dunn showed some glimpses as to why i think when he finds some consistency to his game, he will be a potential match winner for us. -
NO MILLER, NO WARD, NO GODFREY - AT LAST!

Great post. We were always a chance without thse guys playing tonight. -
Ahhhh, just imagine we had a player who goes in and under the packs with an unnerving desire to win the clearance....

I don't see one player on your trade/delist list that any club would want, other than PJ, and we don't need to be giving up another ruckman now. PJ will be alright, ruckman always take longer to develop and this has been his first full year of playing regular AFL footy and he has done alright.

The reason our ex-players accept premiership medals at other clubs is because other clubs are winning premierships. We are not.
-
I am pretty sure i wrote, i would trade Sylvia only if we could get a first round pick for him.
-
The only way we would get a first round pick, is if teams other teams feel like he(Sylvia) may still get better as well. This window will only be open for so long. So a hard call needs to be made that may come back to bite us, but i feel we would be better sevred trying to strengthen our spine. Who on our list that is expendable that we would get a first round pick for?
-
Our tackling is shite this year because we are [censored] weak!
-
I'd trade Sylvia if we can get a first rounder to use on a KPP for him. I am not convinced he is ever going to live up to his billing.
-
We only had the ball about half as much as them, so you would presume we had many more opportunities to tackle.
-
I would have to agree with alot of what the goodoil is writing. I think we look at our own young players with rose coloured glasses sometimes, but in reality, if you take a look around the league, they are no better, and possibly worse than a many others. I still maintain, i saw Ricky pettard play a couple of games early this season, that were better than any game i have ever seen Sylvia play. He seems to me like one young player, that might(fingers crossed) be one for future stardom. Dunn is another one to me, who seems to have a natural football brain and feel for the game, but lacks consistency in both performance and coach's faith(eg. Plays a great tagging role on C.Cornes in first game against Port this year, and is then dropped for the next meeting, when we are supposedly building for future). I still think Jones and Brock are going to be gun players, just not the superstars we need.
-
I know this is a topic that has been brought up before, but seriously, where are the hard bodies on our team(with the exception of a few youngsters)? What disappoints me, is that when you look around at almost all the other teams(Richmond excluded), there senior players actually get bigger bodies as the seasons go by. We have guys like Wheatley, Ward, Brown, Bruce and Junior, who don't seem to have put much muscle on at all over the years. I know guys like Junior(and Jones), have stated that they dropped kg's so that they could run out games better, but why do other teams have big strong bodies and are able to run all day as well? And now for the cliche of the year.....we need a big preseason for next year!
-
Riley may have to tell the players which are the swans attacking goals, so we can actually put defenders on their players who are near them.
-
If we had of got rid of J.White, instead of Jolly, we would have had a top 10 draft pick and about an extra 300k to spend on another player, and we would be no worse off in the ruck.
-
The travelling comedy troupe that is the Melbourne Demons continues. We are an embarrassment! It would be nice just to have the game not be decided in the first 10 mins of the game for once, just so i can get a little git of enjoyment out of watching the footy. At least i know we will lose to Carlton rnd 22. We are by far the worst team in the AFL.

Is Dunn Injured? Could this be the week Ward finally gets the chop? I'll be praying.

WJ's Match Review - Port Adelaide v Melbourne
Jerry Lundergard replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
If you want to see The Lower Depths, flick over to CH10 and watch Big Brother. And i thought the MFC was an embarrassment. -
There is not much else to do at this stage of the season. At least i can barrack for Carlton to win another game.
