I think we will go for a mid and a KPP. Not sure what order. I suspect the Saints will do the same. North allegedly are chasing Tauru and if they do not trade back may throw the dice at pick 2. If for example Clarry wanted to go to the Cats at season's end we would demand their 2025 and 26 1st rounders. Potential mids coming through on our list: Rivers, McVee, Brown. JT said Kolt has the skill set to move to mid later.
-
A point made by a keen draft follower. With all the KPF's finishing up, Hawkins, Daniher, Dixon, BB, Casboult we can expect clubs from here to be overpaying in the draft and trading for KPF's. The Tigers Lynch is looking a bit beaten up as well. Might see overs for KPF's in this draft for Armstrong, Shanahan and Whitlock in this draft.
-
If we go for a KP at 5 then we may well pick him at 9 if available. Explosive, good size and may start at half back if Rivers plays mid. Played 11 senior games at Peel Thunder including a senior Grand final victory.
-
Jeffo has served his apprenticeship at Casey, 3rd in the 2024 B&F. He will get a chance in 2025 to play AFL. I think we will pick a KP this draft along with a mid or running half back. Armstrong or Tauru would be good. If Nth trade with the Tigers for pick 6 and we take one of Tauru or Armstrong at 5 they will take the other at 6.
-
Also Armstrong if drafted may not play next year. Petty and Turner may eventually play back.
-
Depends on ranking. We may take Armstrong at 5 if ranked there. Considerations. Can both or one of Rivers and Brown become a very good mids? Stability with Oliver and Tracc. If Armstrong is ranked 5 and Rivers to play mid maybe Travaglia as a high endurance/speed defender at 9?

It may be used on any late bid on Yze???

Welcome to Demonland: Harvey Langford
manny100 replied to spirit of norm smith's topic in Trade, Draft & Free Agency
From Twomey's rankings description of Langford (ranked 3). " Langford's appeal comes in his size, presence, versatility and impact – he will be playing significant AFL footy next year." -
Plenty of the Dees faithful would be getting a bit obsessed with this draft. In the end we will just have to put our faith in JT. If we go for Armstrong at 5 one of the factors may be that May and TMac are in the career twilight and we have Petty and Turner who can play back. We will then go a potential gun mid/running back at 9. I would expect that he play at Casey for a season or 2. Hopefully Jeffo plays regular AFL this year. Cadman was seen at as reach by GWS when they traded for pick 1. If we do not pick him at 5 i suspect the Saints will pick him at 7 or 8 and the best mid available with their other pick.
-
5 and 9 plus Yze and Mentha. There is a chance if our preferred player is gone at 9 we may offer that pick to say GWS for their 15 and 16. But there is a bit of talent around 9 so i think we will take it to the draft.

Welcome to Demonland: Harvey Langford
manny100 replied to spirit of norm smith's topic in Trade, Draft & Free Agency
Twomey's October rating has Langford at 3. He usually gets it right with a pick or 2. -
North may bite the bullet and pick him at 2. They already have a heap of mids.
-
After seeing those highlights Smith would be a great choice. Looks like a safe choice as well.
-
Cal Twomey on gettable yesterday said Tigers should not give more than 6 and 20 for pick 2. He did not explain his reasoning but i presume he considers there is not a lot between picks 2 and 6.

2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
manny100 replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I see Deakin Pereira who trialled with us a few years ago but accepted a US basketball scholarship is back playing basket ball in the Melbourne Basketball Leauge. Not a skinny kid anymore. Stacked the muscle on. -
If Draper goes to the Crows Smith may fall through to us at 5/6. Smith has risen to every level he has played so he should be a good player at AFL level. Then with luck Tauru falls through to us at 9. Twomeys top 10 is usually ok within a pick or 2.

CHANGES 2024 Part 2: The Accidental Rebuild by The Oracle
manny100 replied to Demonland's topic in Trade, Draft & Free Agency
Thanks, great summary. Going by Twomeys efforts last year picks in the top 10 are usually with 2 of his predictions. The out by 2 was McKercher and Curtin. The rest were either spot on or out by 1. Good effort by Twomey. Its a good time to be bringing in early picks on top of last years draft given Tassy coming in. The club IMO is on the ball. Well done Tim Lamb. Let's hope JT and his team once again draft well. -
It's a fair chance a team in the top 6 will take a reach for Armstrong, Tauru or another player. North have a stack of mids and may reach for either. North needs support for Larke and will have Darling to tutor. Carlton have tall forwards but could do with a talent like Tauru. No doubt there will be a surprise or 2 before our pick 9. No doubt we will go for what we think is best available. At pick 9 we may be a little flexible. Lloyd rates Armstrong a better pack mark than the Kings. I think with the Clarry/Tracc dramas we are a cert to go for a 'gun' mid available at pick 5/6. Also i think Pup Brown will be a very good mid in a season or 2. If Armstrong/Tauru are rated as guns how many of these types are available in drafts compared to mids. How easy is it to attract established gun mids to the club compared to mids?
-
We have both Petty and Turner who can play back, especially Petty. Lloyd said Armstrong was the best U18 consisted mark he has seen including the King's. We have May and TMc on the career tail end. Jeffo, JVR and Armstrong may prove a good combo? A mid at 9? Our dilemma- will Oliver and/or Tracc look elsewhere next season? Probably not but do we select a 'contingency' elite mid just in case? Elite KPF's are as rare as hens teeth.

Twomeys Oct phantom will be interesting. Every year its a bit different to his September with more Information available. Looking forward to the October phantoms later this month.
-
I think at 9 we will go for a tall ranked around that area unless a player highly ranked by JT slips through. Tauru, Trainor or Armstrong would be good. I would not be surprised if North reach and pick Armstrong or Tauru at pick 2. They already are stacked with mids.
-
Windsor had stand out pace and smarts as his Xfactor. JT will look for some sort of standput out ability at picks 5 and 9. Lalor explosive break away. Smith huge accumulator. Langford size, accumulator - speed? Draper all round but Crows bound? Tauru, marking, late developer, interceptor, swingman. Trainor can accumulate, marking, intercepting. And the list goes on.

2024 Player Reviews: #21 Matthew Jefferson
manny100 replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Check out Jeffo's Rookie me September power ranking and comments in his draft year. Described as a good KP but skinny. He was always going to take 2 or 3 seasons before getting get a game and that is the path the club chose. Some expectations in these threads have been way over the top.
