  1. From my admittedly layperson's reading of the issue, the problem wasn't insufficient evidence but the way in which the AFL tribunal decided to apply the "comfortable satisfaction" level required to find them guilty. The evidence from my standpoint is pretty damning.
  2. All fair. Doesn't mean they should have been put to death.
  3. What amazed me was that someone that young would actually have hard copy porn. Surely Petracca has heard of the internet?
  4. lol not this year Goldstein by a mile.
  5. When Misson said another week for Viney, does he mean another week and then bring him back through the VFL or straight into the best 22? Thanks Saty.
  6. What a nightmare. Have you tried giving them unsolicited advice on their sex lives and talking ad nauseam about the 'good old days'? Should keep them away for a while.
  7. I agree with most of what you said, but I'm not sure the media made them out to be heroes. I think it's an oversimplification. The media present their more human faces, their rehabilitated side while playing down their drug-related activities. In a world where we're used to 'heroes and villains' in media stories, maybe we just applied that trope to the presentation of this story and assumed that the media classed them as heroes. Personally I was pretty happy with the coverage of the issue from the news sources I use (ABC News 24 and The Age), although I agree that it took more precedence over the Nepal deaths than it should have.
  8. My mum had breast cancer when I was in high school. I remember going with her to when she got her radiation therapy at Peter Mac. I'd read books in the waiting room only half paying attention, mind meandering around with other thoughts. The staff there were fantastic and supportive. So glad the club gets behind this cause in a big way. As if I couldn't love them any more. Go dees :D
  9. Wish I could, but hard to take 3 months out of life with 2 kids and a job. My wife's a saint but that'd be a stretch. Besides it's my daughter's 2nd birthday next week, so she can take the spotlight off her ageing old man.
  10. That can't be allowed to happen. It basically provides a template for future cheating.
  11. I understood some of those words.
  12. I don't know why and have no inside knowledge, but I just have this feeling that Jesse will stick with us. He just seems to love what he does so much.
  13. That was great. Love how Bernie wanted to keep reading coz the old man was enjoying it so much.
  14. Sucks that Nev can't play. He's one of the reasons I love watching the new-look Dees. The best parts are when his opponents get frustrated and start doing stupid [censored]. You just KNOW he'd do it to Ballantyne.
  15. Yes it does seem like Roos has a great ability to both push hard and support the guys at the same time. That takes an amazing amount of people skills.
  16. True. Not everyone can push themselves despite a destructive environment. There is only one Nathan Jones. I've had my 5 minutes of petty shadenfreude (thanks rpfc), mostly directed at Freo as opposed to Col. Time to move on.
  17. Yep. McDevitt even said he didn't want to appeal as it would just get in the way of WADA getting it to CAS. ASADA having another ping through the AFL appeals tribunal would just lengthen the process and nothing would change. I like McDevitt. Everything I've read about him indicates to me that he feels that what went on at Essendon was unconscionable and he can't stand the way in which Essendon have conducted themselves throughout the process. He knows they took drugs. He can't prove it. Trying to prosecute under the flawed AFL tribunal system is futile, so he's pushing WADA to do it at CAS where there is a much better chance of a just outcome. As a side note, the people I've spoken to about the Essendon saga unfortunately seem heavily influenced by Hird's media cheer squad. I struggle to find anyone outside this forum with an informed opinion (one way or the other). It frustrates me to no end when I bring up issues I've read on here and they just shrug, or look confused at me because my opinion doesn't align with theirs. The misinformation and blatant lobbying by some members of the media disgusts me as it influences far more people than I had realised.
  18. Wow, check out the comments on that story. Not one (yet) who wants to see the case appealed.
  19. $15b is a lot of jobs mate. It's not as clear cut as you make it.
  20. Heard on the radio yesterday that they contribute $15b in trade to our economy every year. It's not just a simple matter to tell them to get stuffed. We'd hurt pretty badly. Agreed that the relationship must change though.
  21. Rofl Man I wish I'd seen that. Max sounds like a character.
  22. You're probably right DC. Things would have been very different if this happened to a club without such rich backers. They can afford to obfuscate and even pay fines if required. It sickens me.
