Hope that SEN phantom draft isn't a sign of things to come Selecting both Smillie and Shanahan would be disappointing if all of Langford, Tauru, Reid and Travaglia are available at picks 5 and 9.

Potentially the most intriguing playing on our list. He has all the tricks and will only get better with another pre-season. I still remember watching his debut live at the 'G at the start of 2023 when he'd seemingly come from nowhere after he had a great pre-season. Straight away you could see that he was a smooth operator. How about the baulk on Libba at 1:17? 👇👇 This year, you could see that his teammates were looking to get the ball in his hands more often when we were exiting 50. He took some great scalps as a small defender as well. He looked a little bit lost when we moved him into the midfield but I think the potential of him playing there is huge.
-
Still our most important forward. Managing 41 goals in a season as a medium forward when he wasn't 100% fit, alongside our poor forward entries is an impressive feat. I loved watching him tear Hawthorn apart in the final quarter earlier this year. I think he kicked 3.1 and took a ripper over Sicily in the space of six minutes. The dribbler to seal the win against Geelong was another obvious highlight.

He still has his moments but seems to have lost a fair bit of confidence and his body. The penetration in his usual 'laser like' kicking has also been lacking over the last couple of years. Hoping for a TMac like renaissance next year as he there's still plenty he can provide as we continue to blood the next generation.

2024 Player Reviews: #2 Jacob van Rooyen
Demon Jack replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
First forward we've had since Hogan who isn't afraid to crash a pack. His goal tally for this season would be pushing 40+ if he wasn't forced to play as a second ruck. -
Watch Geelong turn him into Stengle 2.0.
-
I think choosing to play an undercooked Petty as first ruck over a fit Fullerton sadly shows where he's at.
-
I for one applaud the return of Daniel Nicholson as kicking coach. In all seriousness, I'm sure this relates to the talks we had with N.Jones a couple of weeks ago.

Kynan's VFL stats from Casey vs Frankston earlier this season 27 Disposals 24 Tackles 1 Goal 175 Fantasy Points
-
Have heard whispers from a source close to me (he usually has good intel) that North are leaning towards selecting Josh Smillie with pick 2 (pick 3 after Ashcroft).
-
I'd take either Langford or Reid over Tauru at 5 and pray he's still there at 9.
-
I'd personally keep pick 9 and draft a Tauru/Travaglia. I don't hate the idea of drafting Armstrong but he's a 3–4 year project player whereas there are plenty of options who look AFL ready now. Considering we've jettisoned our first pick of '25 off to the Bombers, I think we'll be looking at guys who'll make an impact pretty quickly.

He clearly has talent but 15 games since the start of 2021 has red flag written all over it.
-
Cheers Tommo, you played some great games for us including the first couple months of '21 not to mention QB in '23. Hopefully Adams takes the next step in '25 or Jefferson plays which allows either Turner or Petty to play back because this is a pretty big hit to our defensive depth. Maybe Kruger and/or Andrew incoming?
-
So 49 for Sharp and maybe a F4th? Makes you wonder if we're just planning to take the two top ten picks into the draft and nothing else. I wonder if we're still trying to pry the Derk out of GWS.
-
Wow, last I heard it was reported we were giving up F1 and 28 alongside potentially a late pick swap. Stoked to get 9 in this year's draft, but ouchie, that's a hefty price all of a sudden.
-
Important to note that outside of Salem and Tyson (who played some great games for us), we also received a third round pick as part of that trade which became Jayden Hunt.
-
I'm hoping we pick up Alix Tauru with pick 9 should we take it into the draft. Tall, aggressive and can play anywhere. I'd happily take him over Armstrong who is rated higher in a couple of phantom drafts.
-
Wowzers, that's a good deal for us if we can make a good fist of it next year. Cheers Bombers.

2024 Player Reviews: #44 Luker Kentfield
Demon Jack replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
It was always going to be hard for an 18-year-old key forward to make an impact when he hasn't had a full AFL pre-season while also playing for a bottom six VFL side. While time is on LK's side, will we give him that time? We've just jettisoned KFW after two years when he clearly needed more time in the system. I'm hoping we have a bit more patience in Luker's development. -
Don't mind that. Get a couple of quality youngsters in what is considered to be a good draft to alongside Windsor and Kolt from last year. That's a good injection of young talent with hopefully Jefferson also debuting next year.
-
Forever a premiership Demon. Cheers ANB.
-
Honestly, considering recent events, I'd say that retaining all of Petracca, Oliver and Pickett could be considered a successful trade period. Outside of Campbell, I wouldn't be surprised if we continue to look at Derksen and potentially another first round pick and that's all.

ANB was class personified. Complete polar opposite to the Bolton/Baker speeches from Richmond's B&F. Nothing but love in the room. -
