2020 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
A “6am” early call now trade week is over and picks more organized. Top 30 and likely bids. 1. Crows Logan McDonald 2. Kangas * bid Jamara Ugle-Hagan matched by Dogs Kangas - Elijah Hollands 3. Sydney - Will Phillips 4. Hawks - Riley Tilthorpe 5. Suns - Tanner Bruhn 6. Ess * bid Braeden Campbell matched by Swans Ess - Denver Grainger-Barass 7. Ess - Finlay Macrae 8. Ess - Oliver Henry 9. Crows * bid. Lachlan Jones matched by Port. Crows - Heath Chapman 10. GWS - Zane Trew 11. Kangas - Jack Carroll 12. Freo - Nathan O’Driscoll 13. GWS * bid Errol Gulden matched by Swans GWS - Kaine Baldwin 14- Pies. Archie Perkins 15. GWS - Zach Reid 16. Pies - Nik Cox 17. Tigers * bid Reef McInnes matched by Pies Tigers - Bailey Laurie 18. Dees - Brayden Cook 19. Dees * bid Brandon Walker matched by Freo Dees - Caleb Poulter 20. GWS Eddie Ford 21. Saints - Sam Berry ROUND TWO 22. Crows - Tom Powell 23. Crows - Zac Dumesny 24. Hawks * bid Joel Western matched by Freo Hawks - Oliver Davies 25. Lions - Jye Sinderberry 26. Dogs used points 27. Suns * bid Conor Downie matched by Hawks Suns -Sam Collins 28. Dees - Nick Stevens (I’d probably be tempted to call Isaiah Winder here though if available. His raw talent and pace make him a steal) (Angwin and Ginnivan other chances here) 29. GWS. * bid Saxon Crozier matched by Lions GWS - Isaiah Winder 30. Kangas. Xavier Maher Cook, Poulter & Stevens represent 3 very skilled midfielders. Cook fits wing/HFF, Poulter fits RR/hbf, Stevens fits HBF /wing. Though Winder as a mid/HFF and senior footy experience is still a likely pickup.

Trade and Free Agency Deals That Need To Be Done.
We did excellent business to get Preuss for pick 31 and then effectively give that to Kangas for Brown. You were close with your predictions.

2020 AFL Mature age draft prospects
Has the talent but just seemed not intense enough. I think the crows were very disappointed with his development given he had good pace and endurance. He showed flashes of talent and fitted in as a goalkicking half forward. Probably his injury set him back and his ruptured Achilles in June of this season meant he was definitely to get delisted. It’s a “no way” from me.

2020 AFL Mature age draft prospects
It’s actually interesting to see the players who didn’t get drafted for a few years and then finally got picked up 3-4 years later. Sam Mitchell, Michael Barlow, Ben Brown, Kane Lambert, Isaac Smith, Michael Gibbons, Brodie Mihocek, Luke Ryan, Bailey Fritsch, Adam Saad, Sam Collins , Mitch Hannan. Jake Riccardi was the obvious 2019 standout and he’s already shown his talent. There’s plenty of talent still coming through that missed the traditional draft me at 18 pathway.

The warped draft
Yes I went through the 1st round and there is at least 5 or maybe 6 players who should have a bid on them by the time it gets to picks 18,19. That means we are effectively picks 24,25. I would definitely look to bid on Brandon Walker with our first pick. We’d force Freo to match it. They will most likely but if they didn’t, he’d be a great get.

2020 AFL Mature age draft prospects
I’d like to the Dees use our 3rd round pick (pick 50 ish) on a mature type player around the age range 20-23 who might be able to step up in 2021 straight away. I’d see Sam Fisher, Angus Baker, Rhyan Mansell or Jacob Wehr as that type of player. Mansell in particular would be a very good drafted after an excellent 2020 in the SANFL.

Tom Phillips - Outside Skills and Speed
Summed it up. Phillips was the one that got away. Pick 65!! The bargain buy of the draft by the Hawks.

SECOND 2020 TRADE PERIOD?
Wtf

2020 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Yes Brayden Cook should be available and we’d be super keen to select him. Would be a very handy goalkicking wingman with good pace, endurance and skill. ✅✅✅

Who Will We Dislodge from the 2020 Final Eight?
2021 final 8 Tigers ✅ Cats ✅ Power ✅ Lions ✅ Saints ✅ Pies ❌ Bulldogs ✅ Eagles ✅ Pies finished 8th and lose players. Other clubs get stronger or (tigers) have the exuding players and system to still be very successful. Who could come in? Dees or Blues. Blues get Williams and Saad who will add tremendous pace, and their youngsters get better. Many pundits will have the Blues into the 8 in 2021.

2020 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
I think Will Phillips goes to Sydney. That will love him there and replaces Josh Kennedy (who will probably hang up his boots after 2021). Assume Bruhn goes to Suns to complete their AAA midfield for the next 10 years. Bombers will try to grab Grainger-Baras (Hurley and Hooker on the descent) Macrae and Henry.
-
2020 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Possible but unlikely. But I do hope as any of these 3 are perfect for the Dees. I have the Bombers getting Macrae at 8, Kangas getting Carroll at 11 and Pies stealing Perkins at 14. I hope a team further screws up the Pies by nominating Reef Mcinnes in the top 12-13 picks prior to their first pick. Screw them.

2020 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Yes some interesting names here from Knightmare. I’m looking through the draft picks and likely options. I have considered we need runners. Midfielder types with good skills (essential), pace and endurance. I hope JT agrees. To play running wing or half back roles. I assume players, that have very good skill with pace, like Finley Macrae, Jack Carroll and Archie Perkins will all be gone (as I have them picked through by Pies pick 14). I’d even nominate Brandon Walker under Freo NGA and get them to have to match it I have looked at picks 18,19 - Brayden Cook SA-Sth Adel, wing, half forward - Caleb Poulter, SA-WWT , ruckrover, halfback At pick 28, similar types are - Ryan Angwin Gippsland power, wing - Nick Stevens Ballarat Rebels, half back - Jack Ginnivan, Bendigo half forward I can give further Bio details later once we have picks locked in closer to the draft. Thanks to JM pick swaps, we have good options still despite not quite being into real top 20 group given nga, zones & father son compo etc etc

MFC Trade Summary
8/10 score. Getting good value pick 31 for Preuss ✅ Getting Ben Brown for equivalent mid 2nd round ✅ ✅ trade pick swaps to get 18 & 19 & kept 28 ❌ Witherden - we needed a small skilled defender to go alongside May and Lever ❌ missed the Pies fire sale. Phillips was a good fit and ultimately was available. ❌ lost first round 2021 pick ?kept Tmcd on serious $$ but unsure where he fits in our best team. Probably as an emergency!

2020 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Ready to go now. JT hopefully has been in Mahoney’s ear about some diamonds in this draft. Jack Carroll, Finley Macrae and Caleb Poulter all in the frame now. Young midfield runners to compliment our midfield bulls.

Trade Targets
Mahoney keeping Trade Radio exciting !!!

Hopes for the final trade day
Its quite a day. Ben Brown, 2020 draft picks. 18, 19, 28, 50. risky to trade out future 1st in 2021 but it shows our aggressive and creative style hoping it carries over to the 2021 coaching and playing style

Trade Targets
It’s all done. It’s a blockbuster.
-
Rumour only file ...
I think we are probably the most creative with the pick swaps. Definitely Mahoney is a closet actuary.
-
Trade Targets
I thought the Dees really should have gone for Witherden from the Lions. Elite skills. Small defender. That’s a gap for us. Whilst some on here thought he was not gettable, ultimately the Eagles got him for a steal imv... Pick 58 and Future 3rd rd pick. I’d have give that up.
-
List Sizes to be Cut
I thought they’d cut to 42 so it means some players on the outer fringe do get retained. 44 means little change for Dees (45 in the 2020 squad).

Welcome to Demonland - Pick 25 (Dees/Swans Pick Swap)
Smart business

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
Yes. Yes. Yes. No complaints

Tom Phillips - Outside Skills and Speed
Certainly I think we recognized the need for pace and fix the (opposite to Langdon) wing position with Isaac Smith the first option. After that Phillips was considered an option. But his price is too high (Pies seemed to have overpaid for quite a few players) and we are now unlikely to be able to shift Tmcd.
