2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Strange article on bargain hunting. All these players will get drafted. Some have dropped due to their championships or by injury. Archer Reid as a ruck/forward will be in demand without doubt. Definitely Top 15 pick for me and showed bursts of ruck craft around the ground plus a role as a key forward mark and goalkicking. Bombers are most likely suitor imv Moir. Huge talent. Like others before him, he had shown such talent and his goalkicking is elite. Drifted out of top 10 thoughts but he will be picked in top 25. Crows would be his biggest fans. I absolutely like Philactides because he has elite skills, runs the line and makes smart decisions. Can easily see him on an AFL list and should be top 25-30. It’s strange he hadn’t been ranked by Twomey. Lorenz drifted as he was played across half back more than wing/midfield. Still in likely top 30 picks imv outside of academy inclusions. His left foot skill is a huge plus for recruiters although his engine needs the afl preseason. Simpson’s injury means his out of sight but I reckon JT would have him on the list. Good clean ballwinner, tough and likes to distribute out to runners. Could be in our frame for a pick in the 20s if it lasts.

The Orlando Turner Thread
From my VC v Allies write up Orlando Turner kicked the match winner , quiet all day but has burst of pace and looks like he knows where the goals are. Probably rookie pick at best. overall summary Orlando Turner is from NT under our NGA academy. Whilst he was largely quiet, in the two championship games, he showed glimpses of brilliance and goalkicking smarts to indicate he might be picked to develop as a small forward. Rookie pick likely.

Need for two conference system again with wildcards and playoffs and other American style imported gimmicks. VFL is a pseudo east coast made up competition.

PREGAME: Rd 21 vs North Melbourne
Woey going out is unlucky imv Harmesy still in (for now) is lucky JJ didn’t keep up his required standard so very vulnerable again Hibbo deserves to come back but we are already ok for defensive structure. Spargo fell over in 2 contested play events and did an undisciplined act to gift Willy a free goal. His goal from outside 50 with a 5 goal breeze behind him was good but not excellent. Didn’t do enough to warrant return to 1sts.

2022 NAB AFL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Jaxon Binns looks like he’ll finally make his debut at the Blues. He’s been starring all through his first year in VFL and deserves his chance. Pick 32 in last years draft. One to watch that got away imv !!!

Farewell James Jordon
You had me convinced until the “Spargo with elite ball use” line.

2023 Injury List
Sparrow replaces Harmes Oliver replaces JJ Fritsch replaces … ?? (Woey jnr?) Melksham has to keep his spot

Mac Andrew
So they change the NGA rule after Jamara gets picked. We lose access to Mac Andrew. He will be a very good player once he has more protein shakes and gym work. What other rule can they now change ?

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
I think it’s a fairer option to gift them a “priority pick at the start of the second round” and rule that it must be traded on. They have quality youngsters and need to compliment these young guns with players with experience around them. We used such similar picks (early 20s) to land guys like Vince, Hibbo, Lingers and Melksham which helped us rise up to the top.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
October 2014 … The AFL released a statement, saying there were a number of reasons the Commission knocked back Melbourne's request. It noted the Demons' four wins were double what they achieved last year and their percentage also improved. The league also pointed to Melbourne's bad run with injuries this season and their good crop of young talent. When the Dees asked for a handout, it was refused because we hadn’t made the right decisions, already had enough young talent and had to be more accountable. Eight years and no finals and we were rejected. Sound familiar. North have made some poor decisions and must regroup using their many years of 1st round draft picks (11 x 1st rounders on their list). Vote NO to this

What they are saying at Arden Street
Agree. No mercy this week. They inflicted pain on us for so long. Need to stay ruthless!! 1- we need to make the percentage if possible. 2- port and lions have a few 50/50 games ahead

What They Are Saying at Punt Road
Tigers fans still crying. Gawn destroyed them. Viney destroyed them. Petty destroyed them. But they reckon the umps were the difference. What the??? Ridiculous cry baby mentality!!

Ben Brown/Kelvin Templeton.
Dees have endured a long search for a key forward. From Tilbrook to Templeton to Cordner to Bennett to Jakovich to Schwarz to Neitz to James Cook to Jurrah to Mitch Clark to BBB. Apologies if I missed a few. Yes BBB played and was a key part of our 2021 glory. The search over 50 years for a gun forward. Some came on big dollars and big reputation. Some have excelled then were cut short by injury or discipline. Many were great for only a few years. Neita was the standout over a longer period once he settled at full forward. Others were so exciting but couldn’t sustain it. And so we look to JVR, Petty and Jefferson and hope for a true long term forward.

CASEY: Rd 19 vs Williamstown
Good call Layzie. He’s the only player that I would even consider promoting from yesterdays game. Love to see him on the emergencies list soon. He’s hard at the footy. Loves the tackles. Loves a goal. Still raw in some ways but is developing strongly. He played wing/Hbf/HFF as a junior but is a small forward under our structure. Definitely a keeper and one to watch.
