I loved the magic he showed as a Demon, but he was not a great 2nd effort or chaser. I wish him luck, he has a long road ahead of him, He would have been on good $$ at Melbourne so going to Port as a rookie will be a big step down in $$ for him, so I believe this is truly a personal thing for him, rather than he did not like or want to be a demon. Not many people go interstate for a lot less $$ and not a lot of people want to go to Adelaide either. His leaving has left us more room in our salary cap and one of the new guys on our list is because he left. Lastly we do not know how messy his court case may be next year, that would probably result in a lot of bad press that could have potentially be linked back to Melbourne.

Who would you select with our 1st Pick in the rookie draft?
Deecisive replied to MadAsHell's topic in Melbourne Demons
Can anyone please tell me do we need to take two rookies or can we take one PSD and one rookie, as I thought we had the ability to mix up the number of players we have on the main list and rookie list as long as the total is 42 or 44. The reason I ask is that I thought we would have had pick 3 in both the PSD and rookie list which maybe a better option than pick 3 and pick 21 (or so) in the rookie draft. Can someone please clarify the rules for me. -
Spencer and Gawn are still relatively young give them a chance to mature and learn the game a bit more. I like Spencers running ability and that he does chase opponents. Having 4 rucks is not too much, Jamar has had a few minor but repetitive injuries throughout the year, and is getting on. So we need to look at life to beyond Jamar, which hopefully will be a couple of years away still. But you never know in footy.

Davey has provided many years of excellent service to the Dees and I am happy to see him finish next year out with the team as we strive for success. He has after all played a lot of years when we have been less than successful. i think he still has a bit to offer, the last couple of years have been impacted by injury, but also he has been tagged heavily in a lot of games. I would love to see his team mates try to run interference to help break him free to get a few more possessions. Aaron's delivering to Dawes and Clark will mean we will kick a lot more goals. 30 is not over the hill, lets hope he can get his mojo back and be part of next years best team.

Sounds a promising type, worth a punt.

Re Jacks stats, how many of these were effective handballs, kicks, etc..

Who would you select with our 1st Pick in the rookie draft?
Deecisive replied to MadAsHell's topic in Melbourne Demons
Choosing Garlett is a make or break decision. He could be a brilliant pickup if we can get him back on the straight and narrow. It maybe worth Neeld, Rodan and Davey having a chat with him to see if he can make the sort of commitment that the MFC will demand of him. Possibly put into place some strategies to assist him in that, obviously moving to Vic should change who he associates with at least initially. The downside is obvious he stuffs up then we have lost the time and money that we could have used to give another talented kid a break. Tough choices, I suspect we will leave the riskier approach to others and play safe. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - MATT JONES
Deecisive replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Who's to say that some other club may not have used a late pick to pick up Jones, we say something in him others may have too and taken a chance with a late pick. He fills a need take him, lots of good players still in the rookie draft. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JIMMY TOUMPAS
Deecisive replied to Demanding Success's topic in Melbourne Demons
If you look at the draft spread Jimmy's choices of club were GWS, Melbourne, Bullies, Port and Brisbane if he fell down to 8th. No wonder he was happy. I gotta say I felt sad for Wines, he looked happy in a sad sort of a way.... It will be interesting to see how Baloney fares next year with Wines breathing down his neck for a spot in the Brisbane Midfield. -
GWS did us no favors, just that their double dealing with $cully did not work out the way they expected. Call it Karma, but I think after a few more GWS boys start playing better they will be wanting some pretty big pay rises. Re this years draft GWS wanted the first 3 picks this was not only for the player but the publicity etc that went with it, so they did the Hogan/Barry deal to get the 3rd pick with us. After all the only other team that would likely have traded would have been the bulldogs who I doubt would have given up both picks 5 or 6 to GWS and GWS did not really need later picks. Throwing in Barry cost them nothing, a bit like a set of steak knives to get the deal done. They left Toumpas because they did not need him that's all, no deals no favors.

Potential trouble, why take the risk of investing in him and then having to sack him if he screws up. A lot of other players want to play and who may not have quite the same level of skill but will make up for that with their attitude.
-
he is either extremely stupid or his putting on an act to scare other teams away from picking him, so he slides into the rookie draft for westcoast or some other side.

The thing I liked about the draft was the Neeld went after the players he wanted to fill roles, yes we could have used our later picks on some up and coming kids, but they would not have filled the roles he has in mind for them and they probably would not be ready next year. I for one are sick of every new coach coming in with another rebuild and 5 year plan, this is a fast track to move us forward it may take us 5 years to get there but these players are expected to start delivering next year.. Many of the young kids in the draft just expect to be picked up by a club without understanding or appreciating the once in a life time opportunity that it is. Kent and co are mature players who have played well at a senior level who probably did not give themselves much of a chance of getting picked, they truely understand the opportunity that they have been given and look to be keen to grab it and make it theirs.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JIMMY TOUMPAS
Deecisive replied to Demanding Success's topic in Melbourne Demons
GWS is not tanking its just tom $cully$'s dad doing the picking for them, he is probably trying to get guys who wont show up his boy. -
I take it we still have a couple of rookie spots available
-
A few pundits have Wines dropping down the list if Melbourne does not take him at 4. Which tells me that he is not naturally a number 4 player by talent but by our need. Toumpas is therefore probably the best pick, with Wines going to Brisbane for a couple of years before Melbourne lures him back to join the Dees.

Anthony and Freo have come to an amicable decision for him to get out of his 3 year contract early, I wonder what Neeld thinks of him?

How did Davis and Jetta train? -
I suspect MFC has committed to wines, believing Toupas was taken. Wines maybe a better fit for what Neeld wants from his midfield. We are after the best player for MFC not the best player available.

THE WILSON FILE - the arrogance at the heart of the innuendo
Deecisive replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think if you put any club who got priority draft picks under the microscope like they are doing with MFC then you will find much the same behavior, mixed emotions about winning, resting players, jokes about loosing, speculating about who you will get with your priority pick well in advance of the end of the season, people who have left the club complaining, etc.. Which is why i think we see no real criticism from other clubs etc other than from JKennett, because they know what they themselves did and dont really want any investigations on them. Broke Mclean opened pandora's box to not just tanking issues but general scrutinized for unfair behavior Juddies VISY deal was an obvious unfair advantage provided to Carlton. I would love investigators to start to ask about the Kruzer cup, if so I wonder how well popular Broke will be with the blues. -
New FB dept regime and draft team are taking mainly players that can play now, not skinny kids who could be great in a few years after they have had time to build a body and develop. The highlight reels of a lot of players look good, I would expect that our draft team would have looked at draft camp results, match stats, health, viewed all the video there is to view, seen matches and interviewed their prime candidates. I am extremely pleased with the players we have gotten so far, Neeld and team have done a great job getting the recruits they have while a specter of potentially loosing draft picks from the background tanking investigation was going on in the background. I cannot wait to see who we land, and the Dees begin the 2013 season.

Deecisive replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Melbourne players fitness was pretty poor in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and that the MFC was not happy with Adam Paulo hence why they sacked him. but then news items like melbourne not happy with fitness coach does not attract the attention that fitness coach not happy with MFC does. -
Major list overhaul has seen a lot of dead wood and poor performers moved on. New work ethic being instilled into existing players and new players recruited in part for their work ethics. Greater leadership and mentoring with Rodan and others buddying with other younger players to encourage and assist in their development. Skills are the key area that we need to address, if we can reduce turnovers in our backline and get more of the ball in the forward line, both achievable with the players we have we will a lot more games. Our draw is not as hard as some, in the end injuries will play a part on the finals campaign for all sides, we now have added depth to cover the loss of key players like Clarke. I think we are good chance to make the top 8, after that who knows. Confidence and camaraderie and a desire to show CW and others what we can do could see us though. Go DEES

Rumour has it that CW is working on another story that melbourne gave players mandarines instead or oranges in the last two games at 3 quarter time and that they watered down the gaterade. The orangeboy and drinks attendants have been interviewed 3 times each.
