i am 100% with you, i'd go as far as saying i wouldn't include pick 7 in the deal. there is no doubt he's a very good player, but given where we're at and the midfield talent in this draft i think that pick is gold for us. I'd look to offer something like our future first round pick and Tom Sparrow

Welcome to Demonland Matthew Jefferson

I dunno picket! some of my best games have come against the bye. 😆 -
it's pretty putrid, i hope every single supporter of every club boo's him.
-
He's contracted so i think they'd just say no. maybe a future first and Tom Sparrow?
-
I think Port will 100% ask for 2 first round picks for him, but Pick 6 or whatever we have for Houston seems like a fair enough deal for both sides.

Simon Goodwin 9 years as coach Win %: 57.2 Finals win %: 50% 1x premiership 3x top 4 finishes 1x minor premiership 1x coach of the year award I think the thing i'd suggest posters consider is if you were offered this record at the beginning of his tenure, simply by virtue of the 1 premiership i think 99% of posters would take it without hesitation. The next part of this argument is, if we sacked him tomorrow, are we really better off with an untried coach over a coach with a nearly 60% win record? Unless we could somehow lure John Longmire, Chris Scott or Dimma i really don't see there being any benefit in sacking Goody as of right now.
-
He's a good player, but i wouldn't consider him a super star, i'd suspect the deal would if he requested a trade consist of our first round pick, and perhaps some other swap of picks/players. Not sure i'd be willing to give up 2 first rounders for Dan Houston, maybe a first and a future second or something like that.

Call me crazy, but it's hard not to watch Windsor go about it and think at some stage he will captain the club. Has a Robbie Flower level ceiling as a player in my opinion.
-
Nick Bryan is the one i'd go for from the dons, he's a good contested mark, plays a similar game style to Max although not to the same standard, he's still young and can learn off Max before taking over, can provide a good target forward. I've got no doubt the dons plan for him to take over post goldy, but we had interest last year, and i'd be shocked if we didn't ask the question again.

I've very recently come around to this way of thinking, i used to think that the club would basically implode if Jesse Hogan left, and we turned his departure into Steven May and a premiership, i have no doubt the club will be okay if Clarry moves on, though i'd be dissapointing to see a talent like that not go on to become an all time great demon. I just hope if as you suggest it'd decided that a mutual parting of ways is the best thing, the trade outcome is a positive one for the MFC, for example if he was going to the Crows, their pick 5 would be the center piece of that trade and they'd take on his contract in full. Given the situation with Angus Brayshaw and us still having to pay part of his contract, i think it'd be a disaster to be paying two of our stars to not play for the club. If we are going back to re-establishing our culture, which we should regardless of clarry, it would seem the right thing to do is move on anyone who doesn't fit the mould of the type of person we want at the club.
-
Hahah he's a die hard Blues fan and his bias prevented him from seeing what was obvious to most, that Clarry was leveraging Carlton interest to get his 7 year deal, which he did, and it worked.
-
Correct. and because of the Grundy debacle it'll be difficult for us to get a ruckman from another club with ambitions of being a number 1 anytime soon coz Max is still going strong.
-
Yeah, i am of the view we should have traded him late last year for the outrageous offer from the Crom. Goody was determined to try him as a forward though and now his value is a fraction of what it was then
-
Given Melbournes own head of football rates the chances of Oliver being traded at zero and Oliver is contracted, i really don't think Geelong coming and offering us pick 16 is going to be all that tempting for us. Clarry is going to be fine, he's got all the support in the world around him and with a full pre season he'll be back to his best and anyone suggesting we trade him for unders or worse, pay someone to take him off us will be enjoying Humble pie.
-
Id imagine a first round pick is about right for Dan Houston, who is a very good player but by no means a superstar level player.
-
Unless he has another major off field slip up i really can't see any chance we trade him, he looks happy and healthy again which is wonderful and i actually think his form has been building which is probably a big part of why the team seems to be improving as well. with a full pre-season i fully expect he will bounce back to his best footy.
-
My biggest criticism of Goody is the fact we haven't won the last 3 premierships despite me clearly telling him at training one time that's what i wanted to have happen.

I think he helps us to replace what we lose at half back with Rivers going into the midfield. seems a very sensible target for us.
-
Ben Hobbs from the dons is someone i rate highly, i'm surprised to see him out of the senior team, i think he'd slot nicely into the age profile and needs of our list. It's unlikely he'd want to go/they'd be willing to trade him but i think that's the type of player we should be looking for, young top end talent that perhaps isn't getting the opportunities they would with us.
-
I am probably in the minority that thinks the changes to the NGA rules are pretty fair enough, Mac Andrew is an incredible talent, if any club other than the MFC looked like getting him far later than his projected pick i think most posters would think it was a bit unfair. I don't like that the Swans got Gulden, Heeney, Mills and have potentially built a dynasty off these rules either, the best talent needs to go to the worst teams, that's the natural order of the league.
-
I think Petty is only worth a meaningful contract from us as a key defender, Tmacs form is a major curve ball for Harry.
-
Kane Cornes has made a career on saying controversial things and taking zero accountability when he's made to look silly as a result of them, i rarely take any notice of any of his commentary like this. It would be ridiculous for us to pay someone to take Oliver off our hands and he would be the first to crucify us if we did this and then Oliver bounced back to his best in 2025. The only way we trade Oliver is if he has a significant backslide in the off field stuff in my opinion, and all indications are he's making progress in that area.

6. McVee 5. Rivers 4. Pickett 3. Langdon 2. Melksham 1. Windsor

Jason Taylor is a gun, one of the best in the business, i have question marks on Tim Lamb who i think has probably made a few blues ion recent years

"Very sore" Max Gawn in doubt for next Saturday vs Essendon
Ted Lasso replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
It makes us a really tricky prospect for Essendon because teams know exactly what Max brings and it locks us into how we play to some extent so Max out of the team throws that into complete chaos, it means the mids can just rove to Goldy or Draiper and hunt the ball and makes us much less predictable
