  1. Dice, I disagree with players being suspended for playing within the spirit of the game, and accidentally make high contact through an action that is reasonable under the circumstances. I'm all for 1 week suspensions for jumper punches that land high and other such actions but when a player gets suspended for playing the ball and the game in the manner it is meant to be played there needs to be a more nuanced approach that considers whether the players action was reasonable.
  2. I reckon there is a case for the incident to both; 1. Be graded as accidental rather than careless, on the basis that Fritsch had no alternative to making contact with Powell and that the brace and push off was a reasonable action under the circumstances. 2. Downgraded from medium to low impact assuming that the damage was low but potential for harm resulted in medium. Because Powell's action to cannon into Fritsch contributed to the potential for harm and that Fritsch's contribution should be his action and not the sum of his and Powell's action. I genuinely think we have a good chance to have this downgraded on at least one if not both of the above.

Since injuring his foot in 2017, Jack has averaged 15 games per season from 2018-2020. He is an absolute jet and a big game player, if he played 10-15 games a season for the next few years and we manage him so he is available to play finals then he represents great value. Probably one of the biggest games I have seen from any player was Viney v West Coast in 2017, he had 38 disposals and fell a couple of possessions short of the all time contested possession record despite missing the 3rd quarter with a shoulder injury, and came back in the 4th to get us across the line.
  4. Did he have a concussion test? As if that were the case it is a mandatory 20 minutes off ground and nothing was mentioned by commentators. I thoughts he went to the bench, had a spell and got back onto the ground.
  5. He did not do a concussion test and provided there are no adverse findings in the medical report it would likely be low impact.
  6. I think Fritsch has a good case for accidental as he played the ball, had zero alternative but to make contact and the high contact was no more careless than Tom Hawkins clumsy elbow against May. Common sense dictates that Fritsch was playing the ball and did not act unreasonably. I suspect the AFL will avoid the accidental v careless aspect in terms of suspension and grade it as careless, low impact, high contact which is a $1500 fine.

    Go away party pooper??
  8. There is no way Fritsch gets rubbed out for the high contact. He had the ball and pushed off the players shoulder/head to change direction. It is a completely different action to a bump when you don't have the ball.
  9. We've come a long way since the days when after an 8 goal loss our percentage went up - Dees ?
  10. Absolutely wrapped for Jesse having a big game today. I'll always remember when he re-signed with us despite the lure to WA and in dealing with his personal challenges. He will always be a Demon and I hope he stays healthy and has a fulfilling AFL career ?
  11. So when do Casey play v North? With the AFL match in Hobart I wouldn't mind getting along to the VFL.
  12. I'd rather they focus on playing football and footy programs for the kids. Everything else is fugazi.
  13. Another poster out it well re Oliver re-signing. They said the offer should reflect that we value him without compromising our list to ensure we are well placed for success. To this end it is irrelevant what Track could earn as a free agent if he is happy with the offer we are able to out forward as it would be to the clubs, and therefore his detriment, if we have to compete with free agent bids and thereby compromise our list in order to retain him. For mine, if it is true that the club has tabled an offer to Trac it would be on the basis that there is already a common ground on what it looks like in terms of years and $, there would be minimal negotiation, and I'd think it would be announced soon.

Fully agree RN. To me the 6-0 is relevant to me so far as the confidence that consistent performances instill, giving us a reference point for how we need to play, while also providing some breathing room in how we manage our list, e.g. if Max needs a rest we have such a luxury because the stakes of him kissing a game are not finals or bust. From here; Aother 6-7 wins (out of the next 17 rounds means we will play finals. Top 4 gives us a weeks rest between qualifying and prelim final. Top 2 means we play our entire finals campaign at the G. It is still early days in a long season and alot has to go right, and we will need to overcome big challenges, to have a healthy list and good form heading into September. I also don't think it is a given that we will simply waltz into September.
  15. I can see North offering ANB $800k on a 5 year deal.
  16. I'm pretty sure the game will go ahead in Tassie. When Vic had its recent 5 day lockdown from the Saturday to Wednesday Tassie had reopened it's border to Vic by the Friday, two days after the 5 day lockdown ended. For all of the political posturing the states are taking a fairly consistent approach and as long as Tas health officials are satisfied that there is minimal risk of any unidentified transmission originating in WA that could cause an outbreak in Tassie, then the match should go ahead and with crowds. The unknown in all of this would be a politically motivated decision to keep border shut to sway voters, but I'm not convinced such a move would be popular.
  17. Proven wrong and stoked is a better place to be than proven right and unhappy -Cheesy D ?

Who cares, enjoy the win ?
  19. Goody's comments indicated much the same in the post game press conference. I've noticed our senior players don't whinge to the umpires like those of other clubs, e.g. Geelong, we just crack in harder on the next play to get the ball back. As a supporter this is the sort of behaviour I want to see. Things started to get a bit silly in the fourth, fines will be handed out on both sides for the melee, and Kozi will learn to be more humble in the future.
  20. Love how he goes about it. His tackling is so good, he's smart with the ball and also keeps his feet. Watch the contest I think in the fourth where we stream down the wing and he streams into our 50, makes a contest, keeps his feet and then is awarded a free and goal for high contact from. The second player. In that contest if he went to ground then the two players would have ran it out. It is this sort of example that is why he, Neal Bullen and Pickett are so important to us.

Embrace it, as others have said it's a much better stereotype than having no teeth and being on welfare. The majority of supporters from most clubs all come from pretty similar backgrounds and social status.

In fairness Lord Nev, it is difficult to spot the difference between a Beetoota article and the actual news. The recent article about the hit kids show Bluey not representing minority groups including dogs of colour and with disabilities.
  23. I reckon this is a good example of statistics being manipulated. I'd say rather than Melbourne signing up a higher proportion of supporters than any other club, it is more a case that for a long time we have not been relevant to the general public, and people that don't really support a team when surveyed answer with one of the big/well known clubs. Win a premiership and see the "supporter" numbers increase significantly, which men's nothing. The real gains are the 10-15k members who hadn't renewed their memberships over the past decade, and some ex Hawthorn and Geelong bandwagon supporters and potentially North and Carlton supporters who have had enough.
  24. How many of the 80k are canine I ask?
  25. Nathan Jones is hardly setting a good example when it comes to winning.
