Game plans, tactics and all that jazz
Did anyone see the “Ross the Boss” segment on footy classified this week? There was a particular focus on our kick into 50 in congested situations being very pocket centric rather than more centrally. This is something I’m constantly observing, that even if you mark it in the pocket you have next to no chance of converting. The flip side is if you go more centrally with the kick, you potentially open yourself up to being hit on the rebound, but also have the opportunity for better crumbing opportunities for the small forwards. Anyone have some other ideas on the benefits of going deep into the pocket?

The Tom McDonald dilemma
Mitch Brown is playing The Fritsch role which Fritsch gets back as soon as he is ready. There is no doubt Mitch Brown is on borrowed time. I’m not convinced swapping Weid in for a game playing that role benefits him?

The Tom McDonald dilemma
Tom McDonald has played 3 out of the last 4 games very well in his current role and at AFL level. Weid has played one blinder and one half of footy at VFL level where he didn’t get near it from all accounts. I’m not convinced we should be rotating 3 or 4 players around to fit Weid in at this stage. I’d like less changes to a winning formula not more. On the basis of form, Weid gets told to give us another solid game in the VFL. He needs to push Tom out.

AFLW: PF vs Adelaide
I’m ok with the top teams being rewarded, except 4 teams finished on equal points. The lopsided draw and the fact Adelaide racked up massive percentage against low ranked teams and finished top irks me. I know the draws are uneven in the men’s, the shortened season magnifies this inequity in the women’s. I think this is a different game if played at Casey. The team can be proud of their season, it wasn’t their day today, but Sometimes that’s the way the cookie crumbles.

Quite windy, not much difference to Casey, come on girls

AFLW: PF vs Adelaide
Steady rain falling here. Ben Gibson and Libby Birch said they were expecting fine conditions, but I think we might see a shower or two, this will favour us I’d reckon...

AFLW: PF vs Adelaide
Just to compare the pair fairly, tickets were free to that Grand final, in my view that inflates the numbers quite a bit, because people who are curious and think why not. I am going to today’s match with my wife and eldest daughter, tickets were $22 for the three of us (with juniors being free). The last COVID matches I went to at Adelaide oval last year by comparison (men’s) were $60 and $120 I know the AFL had frozen ticket prices for the first 2 rounds of finals. I would be very interested to see what they do with the Grand Final. I hope they keep prices the same and encourage as many people to go as possible.

AFLW: PF vs Adelaide
And netball knows it. The number of kids in my daughters netball club who now play footy as well is growing. There is already growing pressure on young girls to choose between footy and netball, because training clashes etc. the last netball presentation I went to at least 5-10% of the girls were wearing footy shorts as the presentation was after their footy match on a Saturday...

Loan System for Players to Swap Clubs
I’m happy to loan out MFC players to go to other clubs and steal their intellectual property on how they play against certain teams etc etc it works in soccer because they play for teams in other divisions or different countries. I’m not sure it works at AFL level unless the loan is from SANFL/WAFL/VFL

The Melbourne player with the league’s highest work rate
Defensive programming, I’m sure there is some analogy to football here.....

Is it a good sign or bad sign the club isn’t disclosing what’s wrong with Daisy?

Why QR code required?
I do need reading glasses, and I don’t need them for the app, I’m not sure if the app is the same in Victoria, but we have a govt app with a big button and a wave of the camera in the general direction of the code works every time. I’m actually surprised how it picks it up from many different angles and depths pretty much bang on.

Why QR code required?
I honestly don’t understand what’s so difficult about scanning a QR code? I do it everywhere and It takes sub 10 seconds to do so.

Making Their Mark - Amazon Prime Documentary
2 Episodes in, quite enjoying it. I think if I was a player I would quickly be over the the constant attempts to get fired up. I really don’t get how the 3 pole statue used by gws makes you play footy better, I found it a bit cringeworthy. Eddie Betts is a true champ!

Full Review of the AFL called for by Swans and Hawks
Eddie suggested on footy classified, that the AFLPA were getting 5x the funds that an individual club was getting. I suspect with the cash drying up, as per any business, it will need to look at where it’s money is being spent and this is the start of a power struggle to decide where the cuts are made

Jack Viney Restricted Free Agent
That is a fair point. Hypothetically, if he was traded, is the value he would attract going to make us better? Personally I don’t think so. Would I rather Jack or a second rounder in a compromised draft, I’m taking And backing in Jack every day of the week. I don’t think Jack is the problem.

Jack Viney Restricted Free Agent
On Viney, You just can’t replace heart and soul players. I don’t think anyone thinks for a second he isn’t busting his guts every time he runs out. It’s very frustrating watching him get caught holding the ball after trying to break tackles. On reflection I wonder if he is going through a transition and trying to get the balance right. After the “red mist” bang it on the boot was the in vogue game style, I think Viney is looking to not do that and is finding his feet with the don’t waste the ball game plan. Clarry seems to be using his feet more to explode out of contests to use the ball better, I think we need to give Viney the chance to find the balance of when to bang it forward and when to hold the ball for better options. Id like to see the structure allow someone to be moving to offer Viney some handball options when he’s likely to be tackled. Still a very valuable player in my opinion, we shouldn’t be letting him go anywhere.

Jack Viney Restricted Free Agent
Brayshaw said on the Captains run that there is a ligament in his foot that isn’t working creating issues for his other ligaments. He also said he would be back ready for the 1st day of pre-season.
