Farewell Brodie Grundy
Pies play a different style. Run and skilled delivery at chest level to a leading small forward with Mihochek providing the taller marking option on the lead We can dream but it's never been in our gameplan

PREGAME: Rd 23 vs Hawthorn
Meant to post in this thread.... Four tall forwards injured and one ineffectual in any form of crowd. Not our year guys BBB being injured today after a bye doesn't auger well even for those of us who are desperate. TMac might provide some definition to the forward structure but I doubt that we can expect the TMac of old

Farewell Brodie Grundy
Unlikely though it seems I think TMac's performance in the VFL tomorrow will strongly influence Grundy's future for this season at least

Irish Recuits
I put it down to the development paths. Boys are quickly channeled into elite programs where success is necessary to stay in the team. In the olden days I knew a coach who would have his best players play for a season using only their non preferred foot. It just doesn't happen anymore to my knowledge

Josh Mahoney to depart Essendon.
In NFL as I understand it the Football GM has the hire and fire say on everyone that is football related including the head coach. There are exceptions where the head coach is the boss of football and the GM is more of an advisory role. Not sure how it works in other professional sports https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_manager_(American_football) Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots is an example of a coach who is the de facto general manager; he has never been officially named or granted the title of general manager but he has the final say in football operations.

Out of interest... Do people think the head coach should have a say in who is appointed GM of Football or is this a CEO/Board only decision

NON-MFC: Rd 22 2023
Brisbane v Adelaide Percentage could well decide second spot. A high scoring close shoot out would be wonderful assuming we can't have a Crows win 120-118 is perfect

Which hated player would you love to love at the Dees?
Dare we admit it.... Nick..... At $250k per year with the Pies paying $1.25M per year for 10 years

Irish Recuits
If you're going to grow Ireland you probably need a feeder academy that identifies the talent by age 12. The kids can keep playing Gaelic football but use the off season to develop Australian Rules skills. Have no idea how you'd fund it or how you could get exclusivity. Probably too expensive for us but as a JV between the wealthier clubs (Pies and Eagles for example) it might work

Training Ground?
I'd always thought that the Port Melbourne ground offered a good training site if you could get hold of the Australia Post site next door. Seems as though others had similar ideas and now it's a bunfight There have been growing tensions between footballers and cricketers over access to North Port Oval as the popularity of AFLW increases. Port Phillip Council was relying on the Australia Post site being converted to open space to relieve the pressure on the ground and keep both clubs happy. The site was earmarked in the Andrews governmentâs 2018 masterplan for Fishermans Bend to be open space â a document created in close consultation with Port Phillip Council. But Australia Post has confirmed to The Age it is in âfairly well progressedâ sale discussions with the Victorian Department of Education, which is seeking to fulfil a funding commitment in the latest state budget for a new school in Fishermans Bend by 2026. The City of Port Phillip had responded by also putting in a bid to buy the site, Australia Post confirmed. https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/school-or-sports-field-state-and-council-in-absurd-bidding-war-over-fishermans-bend-site-20230807-p5duhl.html

HATCH MATCH & DESPATCH 2023
Natanui said to be contemplating retirement.... West Coast chief executive Trevor Nisbett wonât seek a contract extension beyond next year but expects Adam Simpson to remain as coach of the AFL club. The long-time Eagles boss also confirmed that cult figure Nic Naitanui could join veterans Shannon Hurn and Luke Shuey in retirement. The 33-year-old Naitanui, who is contracted for next season, has been sidelined for all of 2023 after managing just eight games last year. âIâm sure heâs weighing up his future as we speak because itâs a long, long journey back (from his achilles injury) and he knows that,â Nisbett told SEN Radio in Perth. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/ginnivan-in-again-magpies-lose-sidebottom-for-cats-game-because-of-foot-injury-20230809-p5dv42.html
