  1. That is a very sensible compromise and we could see how we go. Not sure if the site can handle simultaneous threads in both forums but if so that would be a fantastic outcome. Even the naysayers would have been happy with beating Collingwood at Victoria Park last week. It does take time for the game to evolve but as we have seen with women's cricket and soccer it can and will happen.
  2. Thanks Saty the use of drones is an obvious one when you think of it for getting that overall movement of the ball angle Body cams is an interesting one too Cheers
  3. Hi I would be interested to hear from the regulars how they think training and in particular the use of training aids has developed over recent years. Do for example they use the ball shooter that they were using for one of the entertainment comps at the quarter breaks etc. Thanks
  4. Thank you Ernest... you lift the tone as always. May I remind you of another of your famous quotations... “Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.” PS: No aspersions of course on your character of course Ernest... BTW been fishing lately
  5. Their foray into formula 1 was not that successful. Lovely logo though and it's nice to have something on the jumper that people actually know. Took me years to work out who in the hell SEW were on the Hawks jumper !! Almost bought one a couple of years back. Out of the West the luxury cars were going relatively cheaply after the mining boom came to an end.
  6. Great TV. Along with West Wing it can be watched multiple times and you still get new takes on issues. Has to be the best ending ever to a series as well.
  7. I think he's backing himself to bring home the bacon (it is the year of the pig after all). I like it in the sense that if he does membership goes up and with that revenue... a bit for the coach ... why not. Can see the argument of the traditionalists but perhaps it's time we broke the mold.
  8. what can one say.... very like the MFC a dud of a car back in the eighties being the butt of so many jokes. A lot better now Now owned by the big Tata conglomerate of India...perhaps we could branch out
  9. Hi I can understand the need and place for separate forums but I would like to suggest that the AFLW forum be merged with the main board. This is not to suggest that they do not deserve their own place but until the competition grows in recognition it would be great if we could increase its exposure on the main board. Would also give the excellent posters on the AFLW some greater exposure. Cheers from Malda in West Bengal where AFLW is on everyone's lips !!
  10. Great site as we all know. Please support and every now and then send a donation to keep the wonderful work going. I find the match day threads particularly therapeutic. One only has to look at the podcast guests to understand the actual not to mention potential reach a site such as this can have. Thanks Andy and Nasher and all those who keep the site ticking over. PS: I found this site around 2001 or slightly after so it has become part of my MFC life. Most posters are courteous and it's great to get different views. Long may it prosper.
  11. Though we could then be referred to as the Colonel Blimps
  12. Agree DS Despite the seeming joy on this thread it's not the best news. It's early but it would be nice to see that injury list dwindle to almost nothing a la the Tigers in 2017.
  13. Tend to agree but with the first VFL outing being scheduled for after the completion of Round 3 by the AFL team I still see them as important for the 15-25 ranked players. Preuss, KK, Hunt, to name but a few. It's interesting but there seems to be little appetite among the clubs to bring back meaningful pre- season practice games. On the AFLX I get the original concept etc but this circus has really lost me. I suppose it's for the kids because I can't think of anyone else.
  14. hear you poita... I was surprised but the official capacity mentioned in Wikipedia is 12,000 !! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casey_Fields
  15. Agree... perhaps 58er is talking seats.... only 320 or thereabouts at Casey. The capacity is around 10k which should make for a bonanza day for the egg and bacon roll sellers !!
  16. yep there's a lot of discussion about the needed speed on the whirlpool site. People say why is it not like Netflix. According to the experts it is the refresh rate of sport that requires more bandwidth. 7mbs is right on the margin if I recall and 13mbs should get very good definition.. I think Looking forward to trying the service when my internet goes beyond its present 3 or 4mbs with lots of drop outs...grrrrrrrrr
  17. yep it resonated with me a la that man in the White House... great post Wrecker PS... if the above made me sound like a fan of Donald... I am ceratinly not !!
  18. Just another update... apparently kayo released a tweet in the last couple of days saying they were still working on the Android TV app.... (said they want to get it perfect... which makes sense.) Most comments on the Whirlpool site are favourable. There are sound synchronisation issues with some devices seems to be the most prevalent complaint. Still looking very good as an investment for the upcoming season. Cheers from Bangladesh !
  19. It will happen but one has to remember I suppose that the ruckman still only gets the benefit of prior opportunity. He can still be penalised for holding the ball. Fascinating
  20. Perhaps another way of looking at this is trying to predict which of these rules will be eliminated first. The Ruckman taking the ball out of the ruck will lead to multiple secondary bounces and will encourage taller players who can just seize the ball to the detriment of true ruck work. Could never understand why this was brought back in. In the short term I hope it benefits MFC as by (hopefully) having the dominant ruckman we will be introducing uncertainty into the minds of the opposition... particularly those teams who rove to Gawn's tap outs. The flip side is will it see Oliver still being used in that roving position with his miracle bullet like handpasses. I must confess that like most supporters I am very confused by these changes.
  21. One has to think on the tactics. If teams are going to park the bus perhaps we should try the same.Having watched knock out games for many years it always seems to me that there is parking of the bus by both sides on many occasions until the first goal and then it's game on. Our style has become way too predictable and without the stars who can cut through a defence not to mention score a goal or two it just seems that we will more often than not be playing football lotto. The next world cup qualification is certainly not going to be easy. In Dhaka at the moment. A city of leafy boulevards it is not but I am off to explore Old Dhaka today.
  22. The Palestinian game was probably the best from a technical aspect. The Syrian game for a change involved relatively all out attack against the socceroos which is something we rarely see. Good win but the performance did not inspire great confidence in the team's ability against the likes of Korea and Japan. Hopefully they surprise me. Mabil could be the future. McLaren does not impress. Ikonomidis may have the goods. Kruse seems on his last legs.
  23. it would require a vpn .. but why not go with Kayo. Assuming a seven month season at $25 a month that is $175 and you get all the rest of the sport as well
  24. Japan beat Uzbekistan overnight so we have avoided Japan in the group of 16 and now face Uzbekistan. That loss to Jordan cost us as had we won we would have had a far easier match against Vietnam. Almost no coverage of the non Australian matches in the Oz media so far. Doubt that it will change. Went online and the ticket prices for the first round of matches at least were very reasonable...about A$25 if I recall. Off to Bangladesh late next week so I may miss the pointy end of the tournament but I may get lucky with the hotel TV coverage. From what I hear sports bars in Dhaka are few if any !!
  25. Must say that when you have regard to the various "no access" memberships offered by all the clubs the membership figures are all a bit flaky. Time for some transparency perhaps. I'm sure any sponsor worth their salt has access to the detailed membership breakdown.
