$1.9 million on offer from North...okay one more year to earn it. Hard to ignore. Remember it's guaranteed irrespective of form and injury. The unknown is the next TV deal. The last two have delivered big pay rises all round. Hard to crystal ball the next one except that the internet rights may go for a lot more if Foxtel blinks.

An interesting segway from the alternative world of bananas: https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2018/aug/02/evil-monkeys-will-itv2s-bananas-new-show-be-the-next-love-island A show about simians studying humans..... "This morbidly gormless trio are being teased and taunted for our amusement. And finally, it works as simple slapstick – seeing a blindfolded man having bananas thrown at his head by someone in a monkey outfit is just funny. "

Not Another Blockbuster
Believe it or not Carlton played someone (forget who) on 31/12/1999. The prelude to the new millennium. Not many turned up but IIRC it was Fev's first real outing. Just goes to show that the AFL will try anything ?

I've heard that suggested. Makes a lot of sense. Forget what reasons are given against it.

Richmond v Carlton is now the traditional opening match of the season... yet another compromise and of course such an eagerly awaited game.

Not Another Blockbuster
"We see a great opportunity to bring the Essendon and Carlton rivalry back to life on the big stage and create a standalone event in a time slot that is not currently being utilised," Essendon CEO Xavier Campbell said. "The Good Friday Eve timeslot is the night before a public holiday, it is supported by both clubs and the MCC and we are very confident we could build it into an iconic match." https://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-08-10/dons-target-good-friday-eve-blockbuster So that would give Essendon 3 so called blockbusters ... Anzac day, Dreamtime and this one. Frankly I am getting a little tired of the continuously compromised draw

ah... bring back the Dandenong Building Society Mile or whatever it was called. It was run at half time during televised VFA games and was very entertaining. Having just returned from the World Cup I am convinced that most attempts at onfield entertainment are an abject failure. Am I correct in being thankful that we don't have a Woof woof or similar on the scoreboard when we score a goal at a home game. Perhaps the kids enjoy it.- Buddy Domination
spot on... our defensive structure is a gift to an elusive forward such as Hawkins, Brown or Franklin. Franklin's danger also comes from his ability to kick a goal from 55 metre on the boundary line. Gives him just that bit extra space to manouvre in. Luckily he often has off games when shooting for goal... Hopefully Sunday is one of those days.- Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 21
- Casey Demons v Sandringham - Round 19
I had not noticed that Richmond have played one more game than us and yet we are on equal points. Could be a top of the ladder end to the season. Sandringham are 11th in the 15 team comp. With our fast reducing list of MFC talent and the need for a carry over emergency this could be a tough game. Richmond play Williamstown who are fifth at present so that is no walk over either. Remaining games for Casey are: Hawks, and Williamstown whereas Richmond's only game after this weekend is Frankston. Richmond have a 10% better percentage which will probably see them on top if Casey drop a game on the run home.- Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 21
My guess is Kent in and Fritsch to cover Smith's injury. The emergency will be interesting assuming they are looking to cover Gawn. Could be Weideman who if needed to play would share ruck duties with Tom Mac. In reality however the naming of the four extra players tells you little except that Wagner is definitely not in favour.- Changes vs Sydney
I liked the earlier posts that had Melksham coming back for Smith and Fritsch covering for Smith. Assuming Melksham does not return I can still see a similar move with Hannan or less likely Kent being the inclusion. Wagner doesn't cut it and Hunt has done nothing for 18 months.- Accuracy
Our accuracy over recent weeks has taken a bit of a hit.(For example 2 goals 6 behinds for a quarter against GC). During the purple patch around the game at Alice Springs we were remarkably accurate. Shame about the Saints accuracy... really bad except when they last played us !! PS would like to see the stat in reverse.... ie against which teams are other teams more accurate. I wonder if our defensive structure makes it easier/ harder to kick goals/behinds against MFC.- Round 21 Non MFC Games
Amazing ... five games that dramatically shape the 8 and we get a dead rubber in Prime time. Why am I not surprised- Round 21 Non MFC Games
A great weekend coming up. Pity there is no Thursday game as there are arguably 5 games that demand prime time spots- Dees who may be gone in 2019
- Dees who may be gone in 2019
For those who say Vince will retire who takes his place. The place has been available in reality all year but no one at VFL level has gotten within a bull's roar of displacing Vince on their own form. For that reason he will get another year and I hope by round 6 he is depth at Casey. Weideman is the conundrum. With Hogan and T Mac is there a regular place for him and if not will he ask to go elsewhere. I suspect he will be content to remain for 2019 but 2020 could be crunch time. Pederson stays unless we recruit a back up ruckman. As to all the other candidates they all have positives and negatives and will pose difficult decisions for the list committee. Unfortunately I think Bugg is gone.- Gawn walking laps in tracksuit, HS telling us not to panic...
TBH he probably should have been rested against the Suns. I'm leaning towards recruiting a back up ruckman simply to give Max a strategic rest. If we are going to feature in September action over the next few years it is a bit unrealistic to expect Max to play 26 games straight with guys constantly jumping into your body. Have never been a ruckman but I expect it is a physically "painful pursuit".- Rd 23: Opposition Watch vs GWS
The GWS rehab report from a couple of days ago said 2-3 weeks. Perhaps MSF heard an update. Greene has had a horrible season injury wise. Probably worse than Jack Viney.- Allen Jakovich on The Front Bar (9/8)
perhaps a pre-recorded podcast that he could approve before broadcast might be possible. Oral history is so important.- Allen Jakovich on The Front Bar (9/8)
But we all know who really broke the story. On a separate note any chance of getting one of the '64 premiership players on the podcast. Time to grab those memories before .. well we know what! Wonderful job as always.- Rd 23: Opposition Watch vs GWS
Sounds like they are getting a few players back and Greene is likely to be back in 2-3 http://www.gwsgiants.com.au/news/2018-08-07/westfund-rehab-report-round-21 While the GIANTS will be forced to make at least four changes to their line-up for Saturday’s crunch clash with Adelaide; Tim Taranto, Dylan Shiel, Sam Reid and Ryan Griffen could all return.- Andrew Gaff
