  1. sounds drastic to say the least Good luck but...... (the message needs to be improved.. there's a chance here if they can get it right....whatever right is)
  2. it's Sydney not those other exotic destinations that have closed their gates to the Victorian marauders
  3. interesting
  4. stoppages are what 2020 seems to be about soif you are right we are in trouble. Norf beat GWS one of the best outside midfields we have seen by stoppages, playing the boundary and scragging.
  5. 2020 has longer gamebreaks between goals which tends to skew the numbers as well.
  6. Is it? 21 in the four years under him but 37 in the previous four years. Mind you neither period was flash and there is little question that Goodwin has a superior list to the 2012 to 2015 period. Call it what you will there is no evidence to suggest that this game plan overall is more successful than others. 2018 is held up as the golden example but there were a lot of blowout wins that year. The games won factor was not spectacular (although better than our usual) and of course we failed mainly against the better teams.
  7. While talking about one of the players who was playing on the wing the comment is made that the game was played mainly up the centre. Have not been in favour of penalties for the ball going out of bounds but perhaps its time to discourage the boundary line play (Norf did it non stop against GWS) by penalising the last substantive play.
  8. Wonderful stat....... can we have that stat since Goodwin coached please. The median is Richmond at 31... we are nearly double Plot all those on a bell curve and we are off the scale............... depressing
  9. you could take four clubs out and the media would still be very happy. Three from Melbourne and GCS for example. You just allocate Port and Freo an isolation/newcomer subsidy or similar. Enough to get them over the line but not GCS. So easy to get the desired results if the AFL sets the rules.
  10. The importance of the return of community football after July 20 cannot be over estimated but it also means that at that time the AFL quarantine rules also become redundant. That will be in time for Round 8. It also co-incides with the SA and Qld borders being opened. (I think)
  11. Under Kennett's scenario of banning unfinancial clubs the loss of Tasmania revenue would not matter to the hawks as they would be a getting a greater share of the remaining pie. Take out the bottom two performers and there is an immediate 6%increase in revenue PLUS the loss which is presently subsidised in the departing club. You could argue it's probably a 10% minimum increase in revenues to the remaining clubs.
  12. There's a working group looking into it. (Of course) Hard to tell but from what little you hear they are looking at an East Coast league that would mean the end of non aligned VFL clubs. Not sure where the aligned clubs would fit in... they have to get the extra players from somewhere
  13. Lewis gave us two decent seasons and a third which was less so. Not his fault that no VFL based player could unseat him in that third season.
  14. Quite likely to be wet next weekend. Three talls especially when none are firing would be corageous.
  15. Did we ever get a report. From the Blues report it sounded like a decidedly low key affair. Marginally better than nothing I suppose.
  16. The player contracts have rules but for coaches it's open slather. We go caught in the classic squeeze ( when does MFC not) between the purple patch of the end of 2018 and the rumour that the Adelaide clubs were after him. He and his manager were slow to sign. Were we played. ...???
  17. Call it what you will. It's merely the term Collingwood has used for its investment portfolio. Nothing to do with employee super. Think the massive endowment funds run by US colleges
  18. On the body language issue I watched him closely many times when he would come to the bench in a VFL game. It was during his dark days and I was worried that he simply wasn't enjoying the game. After a while I realised that his almost manic solitude is how he gets the best out of himself. So in short don't worry about the body language.
  19. North played the game along the boundary line so it was either ball up or throw in. GWS just could not get it moving. The sun played havoc with the camera coverage as well. On the issue of camera coverage the Gold coast game seemed to be covered from a higher camera angle which allowed wider coverage while not showing the empty stands. Worked well but it may just be a quirk of where the cameras are positioned at Carara.
  20. I'm surprised that no one mentions Brad Scott. Love him or as many do.. hate him he maximised the talent at North which is better than Goodwin has done.
  21. Actually the Roos and Hawks are the teams we have to match before we get into the big time. The sad news is that we are probably still short of them. At this stage we should be ahead of Port but we are at the near bottom. Injury free we win a few more games...maybe as many as eight for the season but you can never help but wonder what might have been with a better coach.
  22. The game has changed a lot since he last played regular football (4 years ago).Outside players no longer dominate.Have a look at the GWS v Norf game. One of the best set of midfielders since Cousins and co scragged and tackled into irrelevance. Game played mainly along the boundary line. TBH I am starting to despair how you beat such tactics given the fitness of the players and their ability to cover the ground.
  23. despite the official reasons it may be as simple as that a one week suspension for Charlie was irrelevant as he was not selected. One could not officially say that so they drum up another reason. It now makes 2 weeks the base.
  24. If you want a lesson in what is wrong with the game at present watch a quarter of the Giants v North game. One of the most skilful teams of recent times scragged and crowded to an almost complete stop. Congrats North for being able to do it but spectator wise an absolute turn off. Obviously way too many players on the ground these days.
