  1. For the ever optimistic the season may still be alive but for realists it finished against Brisbane and definitely against Port. The pity of course is that like last year it comes so early in a year when we are desperate for diversion. Normally my mind would now turn to a second team which in recent years has been GWS but they seem to have lost that flair. So what can we salvage out of this mess so the club goes into 2021 with some impetus. For me it's the development of Weideman and Fritsch along with our crop from the 2019 draft. Not much faith in Smith but I'm prepared to see if he has a spot..... probably in the backline. Happy to rest Gawn if that improves his longevity. Plenty of options for relief ruck. And of course for the sake of our sanity and Goodwin's well being some variation in our style of play from time to time. Any other suggestions?
  2. Yep... we are the go anywhere team if you'll pay us.. Perhaps we can get a slice of the Cairns money as well Unfortunately it's been that way for a very long time
  3. If you accept the figures we have 8 players in the top 100. On a simple distribution between clubs it should be no more than 6. Not sure what you can read into that but I expect we are overpaying some.
  4. The song is a jingoistic US tune that needs changing but it won't help us win.
  5. why..he's a fourth ranked mid fielder in a bottom four club with an injury cloud Sure someone will take him just like they took Jack Watts but first round????
  6. Brayshaw would get you a mid second round and we might need to pay part of his salary. Because of the formula Viney may get us more but I think it would alienate many supporters. No easy fix
  7. Pretty well everyone gives Goodwin a coaching lesson
  8. Wines bringing back Toumpas memories
  9. I'm in the anywhere but Queensland camp. Couldn't stand the TV crossing to Auntie Anna etc FWIW my vote is for the Alice with an exclusively indigenous crowd. In this difficult year it might just send the right message.
  10. Has the potential to divide clubs as players naturally defend partners and family. Not saying you are not right..but
  11. did a search and could not come up with much except that he was doing light training back in early March. His wikipedia entry is of almost biblical proportions compared to most. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Watts_(footballer)
  12. thinking much the same
  13. There was reference in the Guardian to this issue today. Apparently Gil has read the riot act to the WAGS. Something also about wanting to bring a puppy from Melbourne. Sooner this season ends the better for everyone PS Fining a club for the actions of a player's partner.... wow that's challenging on so many levels
  14. Will be interesting to see how long all three are on the ground together. I think they may also be looking to manage Gawn through the next few weeks.
  15. Port's board has always been a good read. Their version of MFCSS is early season success followed by mid to late season fade out. Liked this summary. Had not realised that Jack W was available.
  16. Very good first quarter from Richmond. Hardwick's coaching with slow play and two talls deep forward working well. Bontompelli having little influence so far.
  17. Travel both ways for NRL teams between Sydney and Queensland will be permitted. Not sure what it means for AFL. NRL boss Peter V’landys insists NSW’s COVID-19 contact tracing means NRL players can stay in the state long term after receiving confirmation they can continue flying into Queensland. Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk on Wednesday announced the state would close its borders to all residents of greater Sydney on Saturday from 1:00am. However, the NRL received confirmation on Wednesday evening it would remain exempt from the changes. The Guardian
  18. It's a shared charter with North so most likely out of Brisbane I suspect it's not cost neutral as we would still have to run the Qld hub and as mentioned the charter jet has to fly North over. Extremely disappointing outcome
  19. This is North making sure it's a level playing field. Just shows that our management is asleep at the wheel
  20. There's a guy who has been doing motor bike tours through Thailand including Koh Samui over the last few months. Very watchable. I'll PM you the link if you would like. The railways of Thailand are quite extensive and great value. Have done a few car trips from Malaysia into Thailand and really love it when you get off the highways. Crossing borders with a car in Asia is lots of paperwork though. As you say... next year will be different !!!
  21. I'd be very surprised if it's wrong by much other than the degree of front and back loading. Football clubs leak and it is the job of managers and journalists etc to know these things. Given the salary cap and the need to maintain a reasonable degree of pay relativity it's not an impossible exercise by any means. Would be very interested to know the advantage salary wise that the power clubs get from player loyalty (the desire to be at a successful club with a real premiership chance.)My guess is that it could be anywhere between 5 and 10%. There is also the advantage that the Eagles have with WA players wanting to play locally. MFCSS warns me that we could be training Nic Nats replacement.
  22. If Sydney is a hotspot with under 20 cases Melbourne will never get off the list. ?
  23. Given that they are varying the attendance limits there is no reason other than money save for the argument that they are trying to prevent event fatigue leading to staff and public apathy towards the various social distancing rules. If that is correct they should lock down the stadium and have say two crowd events (one at each venue) each week. Unfortunately this virus has a long way to run (six months more plus). Where I am there has not been a case for three plus months but the government just mandated masks when outdoors for everything. Masks aren't pleasant in 30 plus degrees with high humidity.Haven't quite gone with the local trend of wearing them in the car. Stay safe SWYL... perhaps enjoy some youtube travel shows.I find it quite soothing.
