  1. Interesting that today's Qld covid case is within the 28 day ban imposed by WA. Will the Eagles V GCS game go ahead in Perth... (only Round1)
  2. Surprised by this AFL kite. Another nail in the VFL coffin
  3. the new Gil speak for being forced interstate due to covid lockdowns etc... McLachlan, who works closely with the Victorian government in particular, said teams might be “out of market for a period of time” due to border closures.
  4. We need a T Mac miracle if we are going to salvage the first part of our season. In the two practice matches he has shown nothing to suggest that such a miracle will be forthcoming but we've lived in hope rather than expectation for so many of the last 50 years...
  5. Very useful. I hadn't realised there was aCasey game. Wonder if it's worth going along
  6. No walk up in the traditional sense but I assume you can buy online at anytime (including while standing outside the gates). Reserved seat ticketing is a requirement for covid planning of any event. Can't see it changing this season.
  7. Fritsch was a late recruit and had a year at Casey before joining the AFL. From round 1 with Casey his talent was obvious. Not sure we can say he was developed at Casey.. perhaps more correctly he showed his talent at Casey. FWIW I agree that despite being regular finalists Casey has not been a fertile source for progressing our draftees. Petty is the next test. Before injury in 2020 he had 2 (or3) years at Casey.
  8. AS FD says one can forgive the centre clearance play but our inability to run and spread was disappointing to say the least. Tom Mac AVB and probably Hunt are not the future. Plus was that other than one shot Fritsch nailed the gettable goals. Had two shots from the boundary which were never likely. Jones was solid and Trac was average at best. Anyway too early for panic but there wasn't much to excite in that hit out. Had the Dogs kicked straight in the first half you could probably add another four goals to the loss
  9. do you remember the days at suburban grounds (Princes Park comes to mind) where the trough just ran into the dirt at the back. Those were the days.. Never went to Arden Street or Brunswick oval but I think I got to the rest.
  10. Not sure but every public event these days requires a covid plan and that usually includes ticketed entry.
  11. Agree, individual members may or may not have a problem with it but as a community not for profit reliant upon sponsors it's not a good look.
  12. Listening to SEN this morning and they were talking about probable/possible final 8 teams. MFC weren't even mentioned. Freo and Bulldogs were the possibles with Lions, Tigers, Eagles Port Saints Cats GWS being more definite and perhaps the Pies.
  13. Not sure if its MFC sanctioned OD but however you play it it's a bad look.
  14. Very little buzz and no real marketing is my guess. Then again it's a bit like VFL where because entrance is free the clubs really don't want attendance
  15. Only 10k at Richmond v Collingwood on a Friday night
  16. Interesting music choices to say the least Thanks PF for your great report
  17. Lot of sense in your post but I would like to tink it's about managing total player payments rather than length of top level playing career. In the two years immediately following football most players (investments aside) would be lucky to gross $100k. Accordingly to the senior players it's about maximising the total playing salary. There is little difference in the last four years to a player between a contract of 3x $650k or 4 x$500k with a match bonus in the fourth year.In theory that leaves the club with an additional $150k a year to put towards a 23- 25 year old (say Oliver) which is where the real competition is. Sure there's an impact on list size if things go pear shape and as you say having 3 players in this category may mean you are over weight in this strategy. What I hope we are not doing is thinking there will be an increase in the salary cap that will make everything wonderfully balance out. The odds of that happening are 50% at best.
  18. out of curiosity what was the attendance last night thanks PS I see the crowd was just over 10k (quite low)
  19. way too long in the modern game but I expect there's more to it so ok but after Viney you have to wonder about the longer term planning
  20. Bought myself a zero cost ticket for the big game on Monday. Will watch the parade and perhaps some water ski ing before heading to the match and then finishing off with the fireworks. Yep life as an MFC supporter is lived in a time warp. Wonder what the Gas and Fuel float will look like this year
  21. Agree I think many people underestimate the team impact that Richmond have with Riewoldt and Lynch. Geelong may come close with Hawkins and Cameron if they can work together.
  22. was going to raise a thread about leveraging Lever but this is as good as any. We have to get a tactic going that takes advantage of the intercept. By himself his disposal is suspect but the time when he takes the ball is when the other team is committed to attack and are at their most vulnerable. Perhaps there needs to be a plan allowing him to lay off the ball quickly to a designated player or spot
  23. The Medallion Club is something that needs to be fixed. Often half empty it takes up the majority of the prime viewing space. At the MCG the AFL area is often reduced for Essendon games as their members reserved seating areas are in the Southern Stand.
  24. There's a deal to be done here and provided the compo is seven figures we would be mad to ignore it. No difference to selling games to Darwin etc and few if any members would be denied a seat at Docklands
