  1. If correct Nine drove a hard bargain and moreover they have signalled to the EPL that the rights have almost halved in value since Optus bought them. Amazing and should send a chill through those sports who thought that media rights only go one way price wise. The decision not to buy Optus Streaming itself was another interesting element. The remaining sports on Optus will be concerned as to their future exposure
  2. Port v Carlton is a Stake in the Heart type match both on a team and coaching basis A rather uninspiring round otherwise unless there's a big upset. Hawthorn v North at the Cold Bowl might be interesting if it's not a low scoring slug fest. (Why you would play that game at 4:20pm in Tasmania is beyond me)
  3. Local basketball league did the same thing after it left Channel 10 all those years ago. It had a great spot in the early Sunday afternoon with recognised players and teams. Nowaday's other than the Jumping Jacks or whatever they're called I couldn't name a team
  4. It's money. FTA will not pay anything of significance. Some sports pay the broadcaster (Netball IIRC did this via Gov't funding) Two A League games per week on FTA might be a decent compromise
  5. Talk today in the Age that they could move to a standalone sports streamer. My guess is that would sit at around $30. If they get the NRL which given the Ch 9 link is likely it would be a force. Apparently Nine is prepared to invest at least some of the proceeds from the sale of Domain into Stan https://www.theage.com.au/business/companies/nine-s-goal-to-become-home-of-soccer-with-english-premier-league-dream-20250623-p5m9nu.html If Nine get the NRL the impact on the AFL media negotiations could be interesting to say the least
  6. Just looked it up. An impressive space. Not far from Packer Park which is probably off our radar due to its off leash dog park. Pesky dogs !!!
  7. Could be. I suppose I've had the gloss taken off by K Brown and Woewodin plus Stretch before that. All good solid VFL players but lacking that little bit extra IIRC pick 54 plus is where Carlton picked up one of the Camporeale twins who were often spoken of as "hot picks" as they came through the juniors. Good luck to Archie
  8. The good mesh come with their own router. The gold standard which I have is Orbi. If you have a large house they're a great investment. Had mine now for 5 odd years and still working seamlessly. Before that I had a central router and a slave router. It was ok but the handovers weren't great and often devices (bedroom TV's) wouldn't look for the nearest router. Extenders were a waste of money.. (believe me I bought a few). Good luck with your connection. My bugbear with Kayo is when it decides to drop the 4k connection for no reason. Luckily it seems to do it less this year
  9. The Age article also has the following comment... It has also been suggested the facility could be a short-term stopgap any time an AFL club is temporarily without a home, such as Melbourne, who are hoping to establish a base at Caulfield Racecourse. Almost makes you cry that the club has become like a wandering samurai in search of a new lord's castle that we can call home.
  10. nope Hill was moderately successful and on the market a few years back. His skills are separation, marking and goal kicking. Essentials for a forward but without the excellent delivery he gets he's back in the pack. Mihochek ... moderately skilful who maximises his opportunities. Fritsch was better but not the last few seasons. Rucks... Cox and Cameron. The latter is improving and is probably about the 6th best in the league but no superstar. Grundy was traded because McRae had a view that rucks weren't worth the money. He's probably been proved right. The half backs and the midfield win games these days
  11. Could not agree more See Collingwood... adequate but no stars in their ruck or fowards. It's all about delivery
  12. Maybe He's played one game in the SANFL reserves. The team lost but he played well with around 12 kicks and 15 handballs. (I rate him higher in a losing team) Hope you're right but let's see
  13. Sounds like the name you'd give to a stadium in China or the old Soviet Union. It's had more names than hot dinners (6 by last count)
  14. Good point but if the big EPL fans are already subscribed so they can see Champions League there's no additional revenue from those fans At $37 per month it's already almost at Kayo prices.
  15. Media reporting that the Optus Sports (EPL etc) is almost certainly being bought by Stan. Will be announced within the week. The speculated price is $600M paid in 6 x $100M instalments. If Stan also gets the NRL rights plus the F1 rights (up for renewal in 2026) Kayo will be a long second to Stan. Have never liked Stan because it sells the sports package as an add on to the normal entertainment package. The Age which is owned by the same group who own Stan have been running strategic articles complaining of the AFL/Kayo Saturday blackout of FTA. Coincidence??
  16. A Marvel Massacre is building
  17. A big win in the scheme of things by GWS. The Suns are known for post bye ladder drops. Will it happen again
  18. Very important that we use the second half of the season wisely. I'm not interested in the win/loss ratio as such but I'm interested in dominant quarters that can be replicated and of course player development. To play Max in all games would be madness. Same for May and probably Lever and Salem.
  19. With the Suns likely to have a gimme game in Round 23 against the Bombers and the Dogs playing Richmond it could be a very important game for GWS from a final 8 perspective
  20. The future fund is an excellent concept but it needs to grow in a capital sense (excluding re-invested income) by at least one million per year. I think it's still under $10M. Twenty million is required if it's to have a future impact
  21. And then there were nine What a dud of a season
  22. North should have folded or left Melbourne years ago
  23. The arrogance of the Elliot and Pratt days is long gone. Carlton have done their time and like dare I say Essendon deserve some time in the sun. The Blues seem to be a very well run club off the field. Players rarely hit the headlines for the wrong reasons. Princes Park has been well maintained. Carlton v MFC for the GF next year... Dreams !!
  24. If the Blues and Port lose that's the top 9 sorted. So much for the competitive balance Becoming readily apparent that the Suns were over compensated. Pies have lucked out with three top 5 father son picks and the never ending careers of Sidebottom and Pendlebury. Five automatic best 22 selections certainly help with team selections. (Yeah.. Jealousy is a curse !!)
  25. Serious massacre Does this mean we can claim a "moral victory"
