Will definitely be a big game. Cats kicked themselves out of the game.

love talkback after a Pies loss

Looking ugly for the Pies
-
Good to see the AFL continuing last night with their distancing model by leaving great swathes of the upper deck empty. Expect the same with Pies v Suns today.

Simple tactics... both teams denied the other the corridor and played the boundary. Thought Dogs would be smarter but the boundary/handballing won them the Cup in 2016

mmmm looking like a possibility yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa !

Back to Back Blockbuster Friday Nights for the Dees

Given what I have invested so far that sounds like a bargain. I will contact them immediately PS am now ticketed up for $229 Couldn't help but notice the GF packages but that may be getting ahead of myself -
Here's a good article on why the Saints aren't firing Jack Steele, Brad Crouch, Bradley Hill and Seb Ross are all winners of AFL club best-and-fairest awards. Along with Zak Jones and Jack Billings they are all between 25 and 27. This is a group that should be close to the peak of its powers. And yet it is misfiring. The Age approached coaching staff from rival clubs - speaking this week on the condition of anonymity - in a bid to better understand where St Kilda are being let down.... A theme from the rival views espoused was that the Saints had been drawn towards the ball too much and not paying enough respect defensively to their opponents. While a lack of cohesion - Crouch is only four games into his St Kilda career - was identified as part of the explanation, there was also a suggestion that the Saints’ midfielders looked overly focused on themselves and not in playing their part in a system. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/what-is-going-wrong-with-st-kilda-s-misfiring-midfield-20210429-p57nnt.html

no one is sugeesting he's surplus but you simply can't have the number of highly paid forwards that we have. Tom Mac will either go at seasons end or his contract will be renegotiated. If Tmac has a stellar season we are in a perfect trade position. Something MFC has rarely experienced

Back to Back Blockbuster Friday Nights for the Dees

just booked the hire car. Certainly not a cheap weekend... better get a ticket !! Might have to climb a tree and watch from outside like one did fifty years ago. If anyone hears anything about ticket and meal deals or the like that can be booked earlier would love to hear thanks -
taking the longer term view and putting to one side the top of the table clash there are some delicious matches to consider. If you think we can make top 4 you want the least number of interstate teams in the four. (Unless we think we end 1 or 2 which I am far from thinking.) On that basis we probably want Freo to beat the eagles and Port to beat Brisbane. (Of course Brisbane beating Port gives us one more game on Port and increases the chances of top 2) Hell it's hard As to the Tigers game I would love to go top but a Tiger loss gives us another game on them. Swans beating Cats would be nice as well. So with all those caveats... Dogs Pies (who cares) Hawks (do we care) Port Swans Us Blues Freo

Was thinking about this overnight. You have to wonder how covid affected the various clubs and how the fully integrated clubs vs the aligned vs the standalones went about rebuilding their VFL lists. Was any support given to the players in 2020 as the AFL fled to its warm northern bubble. Overall I think it was a dumb idea to restructure the comp this year. Perhaps in 2-3 years time but it's increasingly looking like the proverbial dogs breakfast.

Let's be honest. The standard of opposition was woeful. One almost needs to mark down every stat by 50%

Bedford Sparrow and Chandler named for Casey Melksham as sub perhaps on Sunday

Back to Back Blockbuster Friday Nights for the Dees

NRL used to name its Friday night games in six week blocks. All other games remained fixed. It was a reasonable compromise between the issues you raise and the need to ensure that the Friday night TV fixture was top drawer. At the end of the day the totally floating fixture does little for crowd attendance but it keeps the TV companies happy which these days is very important. -

Lucky I booked my flight to Alice for Thursday. Had planned for anytime that weekend but Friday night was not really in my plans. Now to buy a ticket ?? -
So this thread has gone from no change to a possible four changes. Wow I love Demonland

Usually top 4 requires 16 wins with the top team having 17 or 18. Win the next three and it becomes far more than a dream
-
of course but it's time to enjoy a season rather than worry too much how it will end. Week to week enjoyment is something we haven't had for almost twenty years. Richmond v Footscray will be very enjoyable whoever wins for so many reasons. A draw would be perfect

Good chance we could be on top of the ladder by the end of the weekend. It's been a while. 2004 Round 18 As usual such wonderful memories are soured by the reality of the ensuing rounds. With ever increasing injuries we lost all remaining games of the season. Most by decent margins. Looking forward to better memories this year. https://afltables.com/afl/seas/2004.html

Bedford had a rather good game in the VFL so unless there is some special tagging job that suits Harmes I cannot see him being preferred without a run at VFL level
-
you deserve a big win Nasher... we are expecting a full background colour report post match food and wind off the Derwent coverage at the minimum not to mention build up and pre game entertainment ?
-
thanks Phil and "the fork".. some great suggestions. Very much looking forward to my trip. It's been on my bucket list for years and watching the Dees play at that iconic oval is something special. I've never been a fan of MFC selling its games but in the case of the Alice game I have come to love and respect the tradition that I hope we are building. Cheers

Just a small auto I'm afraid Slow travel mainly in Asia is my norm. Museums, history and good inexpensive food are my usual pursuits. Perhaps an art gallery (not commercial) with indigenous art. Interested in getting a feel of the town if that makes sense. The airbnb is advertised as desert like so that should be pleasant with a nice red under the stars. Many thanks RGS PS How are the flies at this time of year? Have heard they can be bad at some spots

The Sandringham/MFC alignment did not end well so perhaps joining Port would just be continuing the rift. In reality I think Port would prefer to fold or move into another comp. They certainly have a lot of passionate supporters.
