TRAINING: Friday 20th January 2023
Of course the baseball training camps are in drop dead weather venues such as Florida. I would envisage a set up like a mock beach or similar with player interaction/hosting etc but as you say could be hard to do at Gosch's. Would make a nice Christmas present for footy tragics perhaps

Training and Trackwatching
A magnificent day weather wise for training... A few snakes basking on the warm tracks perhaps On a separate note one wonders how long it will be until some bright spark at the AFL (we can make money out of anything) comes up with a plan for charging fees to attend training. Going to "spring training" in baseball is big business.

TRAINING: Wednesday 18th January 2023
Wonder why with skills of the modern player that both sides are not the "attacking side"
- Game plans, tactics and all that jazz

AI on the football field.. Artificial Intelligence
Having been involved in negotiations for a fair while your premise makes sense. I used to call it the "grieving period" in the sense that participants needed to replace their anger with a sense of compromise. Unfortunately we are taught to "maintain the rage." On the other hand compromise leads to a maintenance of the status quo which is perhaps more harmful in many instances. Now back to the subject... Palace Dees tell us more about the backgammon app you beat. I would have thought it's a mathematical equation like checkers

AI on the football field.. Artificial Intelligence
Interesting... mainly used to measure their own players which makes sense as they could access the data. Its use in recruitment is fascinating

AI on the football field.. Artificial Intelligence
With ChatGPT (the latest open source AI educational app) causing rumblings in educational circles you have to wonder how long until AI enters sport. My guess is that it is probably already used to some degree in NFL to predict the success probability of particular plays. Could it have application in Australian rules to predict trends in say centre bounces. I don't know if AI can interpret video yet but imagine if it could. For those who follow these things, humans lost the ability to beat computers at chess in around 2006 and even now you can download programs to your phone that will beat any human.

Best 22 for Round 1
Bowey for Hibberd Interesting... not impossible Petty obviously needs to be included. I'd question Melksham as the sub baring in mind that there is no longer a medical requirement for substitution. The old mantra when there was a similar sub rule was young fresh legs for the last quarter. Chandler fits that description but you already have him in the side. Not sure ANB is a lock. Given only one official practice match and no VFL games until Round 3 the intra club scratch matches assume some significance in determining the make up of the team. Going to be an interesting battle for 4-5 spots

Kozzy Pickett Re-Signs for 4 Years
If nothing is heard by Round 3 it's going to be one of those...will he/wont he seasons. How's Port's salary cap looking? Will they offer the magical million. His "normal" worth is probably circa $600k but Freo showed us that clubs are willing to offer big money if they think a player is "gettable".

Have the Dees ever played a significant game?
I would have thought round 23 in 2021 had all the makings of a significant game. 50 plus point turnaround to secure the minor premiership and kick start a dominant final series. I suppose our loss to the Essendon "Reserves side" in 2017 (?) was significant as well but not in a nice way. To be significant a game needs to impact the competition as a whole.. both of these games did

Are we the slowest side?
The Eagles run and handball game with Cousins at its centre was a joy to watch. I can recall Armstrong in that GF. His job was to run with stars take the handpass and give it off. A limited role but he played it well. Would it work today? I'm not sure.

Are we the slowest side?
Watching the 2021 prelim against Geelong this week (needed some happy TV). Could not help but think how Scott turned around his team in 2022 whereas we went backwards if anything in our gameplan. Let's hope 2023 gives us a better mix

Are we the slowest side?
certainly worthy of discussion Percentage football may only get you so far

Training Ground?
Thanks OD Of course the fault is we failed to move twenty years ago. The MCG precinct was always a pipe dream. Inner city was hard but mid city (20k radius) was possible. In reality there is no solution now. Richmond have compromised. Collingwood are doing nothing it seems. It is what it is.. Just imagine if we had been more powerful in the Junction Oval days. Casey on the 50k ring is not the solution unfortunately.... we need to be within the 30k ring As an aside I think Geelong will be the next to establish the modern training facilities. Some land on the Geelong- Ballarat road perhps

The 2023 AFL Fixture
That bottom 8 is a surprise. Adelaide at 17 especially. Must have a soft spot for North as I see them as 17 or 18 and not 13 as suggested. The top 8... nearly has it right !! Ah.. just watched to the end. Initial ladder positions were for home and away Thanks

Not AFL
Quite likely that Melb Victory will be penalised with several games behind closed doors. Can't help wondering if the AFL would do similar if faced with the same problem. I think we all know the answer

Not AFL
My first and only experience of top level soccer was five matches in Kazan during the 2018 World Cup. Crowds are definitely different to an AFL match to say the least. Never saw anything anywhere approaching violence and boy there was a lot of drinking !!

Casey Demons off season
VFL fixture is crying out for many things. Not sure that a wild card round was high on the needs list but who knows

Extra "MAGIC" Round in 2023?
If the cricket test is any guide.... for crowds a lot less than than they will be anticipating for the Harry Potter Round... literally everywhere is booked out including the Barossa Valley

The 2023 AFL Fixture
Yep probably pouring rain and howling winds turns an easy game into a low scoring slog. Why not under the roof at Docklands
-
The 2023 AFL Fixture
It's an "Event" purchased by the local State Government just like they purchase conferences, theatre, festivals etc. The economic benefits to the local city are hard to prove but it has been the way of things for around 20 years now. Will it work as an "Event" and pack out the hotels and restaurants... probably. You only need just over 5000 travelling fans for each team and you have almost 100,000 visitors

The 2023 AFL Fixture
Degree of interest is rather low but wondering how double headers work ticket wise If it's one ticket for both games then the crowd for one of the games will be low I suspect. Interesting that we got a graveyard slot TV wise

Dees Heading Back to the Red Centre in 2023
I booked and had the car all ready to go in 2021 and of course the great lockdown hit. I'd love to go but I expect I will head off to the warmth of Asia during May. It's certainly on my bucket list. I think it's the magic of those gum trees around the ground that tempts me

Dees Heading Back to the Red Centre in 2023
Needs the actual date and time to be announced asap. Booking flights and accommodation (even buying a game ticket) is not the easiest. Big supporter of this game and well marketed it has the chance to be a TV blockbuster (not sure GWS is a great choice but for around $750k from the NT govt you can understand why)
