  1. Noticed that the Swans easily pierced our set zone defence on two occasions in the same manner. Swans player marks 65 metres out. We set up in two lines of three at about 45 and 30. Swans player on two occasions darted into the 15 metre gap between the two lines, marked and goaled. On one play he came in laterally from the boundary being left alone because where standing he was a low percentage receiver. On the other I think the player came from about the same distance out as the kicker. Definitely set plays
  2. Don't quite understand how it helps replace injured player X if X is retained on the list and no salary cap relief. The existing mid season draft is a last chance saloon for non AFL players. That makes sense. Some more detail would be good
  3. Lot of sense in that approach. Traditionally the sub of old was young fresh legs. Would not surprise me if we see Gawn and Grundy sharing the sub role between them as the season grinds on post bye
  4. My guess is that the lack of recognised ruckmen will not worry the Pies this evening. I'd like to think it would be close but Pies by 50 plus. Can you stop them.... Some have said they will tire. Others say tag Daicos but they have the streaming forward game down to perfection
  5. Pity it's not at Frankston. Lovely ground. Mind you the local supporters rival the Port supporters of yesteryear
  6. In reality for most of our game you should be able to move seats easily. Not sure how you can do it but if they are going to persist with double headers you may need to rethink ticketing. One way is to use the Wimbledon system. *If you leave Wimbledon you get a pass out which you give to the Salvation army or similar on exit. They then sell the passout for ten quid. This would give perhaps an extra ten thousand seats for the second game and the charity gets $100k plus. If you reversed the order of the two games and put the more popular one first you might even get a better result. Combine with some entertainment in the park and you have an event * Not sure if Wimbledon still operates on this system. I was there in the early 2000's
  7. 2017 loss to the Essendon VFL side cost us a finals berth. That side's only win for the year as I recall it. I like to think flakey performances like that are behind us
  8. By comparison to the last few years of inaction it's almost cyclonic in its revelations but I can understand your concerns. Co-incidentally Moonee Valley race club unveiled its works plan yesterday. Very similar to Caulfield but perhaps not as big
  9. Caulfield is a sensible location but with everything the devil is in the detail. As a minimum it will solve the issue of close location of admin and football but will it deliver what is considered the norm for new training facilities.. second oval, pool gym, undercover training area etc etc My guess is we will be sharing a lot of these. The other issue is cost. Who pays. Do we get a peppercorn rental and we develop the facilities. Long term these are important issues as they impact our ability to compete financially with other clubs all of which have different arrangements. Great to see some movement
  10. Yes but it also said that other than the infection he was TBC. Given that his broken bone was protruding through his skin that's a quick mend
  11. Tram and train lines were important as Melbourne grew post the two world wars. The inner city areas emptied out as the residents of the time moved further out with Carlton and Fitzroy becoming home to the immigrants from Italy and Greece. North Melbourne was an exception in that it went industrial so it did not really benefit from the influx of migrants to the extent of say Carlton. Wonderful topic for discussion. MFC arguably were hampered by the concept of MCC membership and its waiting list. Why did we not attract the new immigrants from the surrounding areas. Fitzroy was only a short walk. Big post war numbers came to Dandenong to work in the car industry. Wonder who they ended up following
  12. There's a lot to "unpack" in that article. Someone's leaking... I wonder who MFCSS suggests it's the club trying to soften the rage of supporters if he goes by demonstrating they did everything to keep him. I think he'll stay... Reasons.. He would not say no to going but he will realise that none of the interstate teams offer the upside of MFC over the next three years
  13. Pleasant weather predicted for Perth maximum of 26 and mild breeze I see that the AFL injury site lists five key Eagles as TBC... does that really mean they're a chance. On an unrelated note I see Jeremy Howe is almost ready to return. Amazing... I thought he'd be 12 weeks minimum https://www.afl.com.au/matches/injury-list
  14. Cleaning aside it would take three hours to vacate and re-populate the ground. Then there is the issue of pre game functions, super boxes etc. You could have a midday and a 7pm game easily but the fact is that 9 games in one city with one decent stadium is too many.... But then again if you have a State Government prepared to give you around $10M... why not

Well done WCW but is there ever talk of changing the banner culture. Cannot think of another major sport that has the banner habit. Back in the 70's banners were only for finals and mega milestone games. Now they are full size for every game What level of recycling occurs WCW. As I understand it Eagles use an inflatable tunnel They don't seem to feature much on TV these days which I expect is due to the advertising they contain and TV not wanting to give the sponsors a free plug
  16. Next week is Frankston on Sunday so we will be missing four AFL players who will go to Perth as emergencies. Should be a win but assuming Tomlinson and TMac travel it will give the young ones a chance to shine
  17. He's always been an accurate kick but they tend to be relatively short loopy kicks to a free player. They are rarely penetrating attacking kicks allowing the receiver to turn and attack. Salem has this ability and Mc Vee is showing glimpses of it. Rivers sits somewhere in between I think but has a lot of upside. On Petty.. he's a better back than a forward. Much the same as Moore at Collingwood
  18. Pity this game is so early in the season as the next two weeks offer the perfect scenario for management of players
  19. Sums it up well. Sydney played the prettier football but we pressured them out of it
  20. somebody pulled the plug
  21. Being dominated in the ruck which is unusual
  22. Swans showing much better connection
  23. Blues winning the close ones this year
  24. That started when Cameron left...Probably the only player on the list with value is Green (without the E) In reality does it matter.. bit like the Suns ...a permanent 11-16 team with no followers
  25. We probably would have beaten the Pies tonight. Problem is they won't kick 8:15 that often
