Does Kade make the grade, or will it be Chandlermonium
This is about it I think. He's an okay player but what special factor does he add? Both Spargo and ANB although often maligned on this Board offer more upside He'll get a run as the Sub and due to rule changes will get more time than Bedford so we shall see.

Farewell Kye Turner
Does this mean no spot for Burgoyne?

Bennell talking to a VFL Club about a return
Well done though I think he may have stood a better (though admittedly slight) chance of getting on an AFL list by joining an AFL aligned/top up VFL club. Will add some interest to the competition at the very least

Training Ground?
Casey is a designated high performance sports precinct. The pool complex is probably 400 metres from the Casey oval which also has another oval about 30 metres away. (Golf buggies perhaps) There is a large asphalt area by the athletics complex. Have seen it used for land sailing but perhaps it could house a large all weather indoor complex. The problem is that they are shared facilities but with money and goodwill we might be able to construct a first class facility from the various components while still accommodating the needs of the present users.

Training Ground?
As I recall they used one of the large function rooms at Docklands for that purpose when we played there back around 2016. Worked well and would be great if something could be done at the G. Ideally you want the room decorated but perhaps we could do that digitally thus freeing up the room for other uses. Those wanting a full time social club should recall what we sold recently (Leighoaks etc). I never went there but few spoke highly of it as a gathering place. Not sure the concept works anymore

VFL: 2023 Fixture
The point I was making is that it's not a competition league. It's a training device.... don't confuse that with a genuine competition The inclusion of the interstate teams was to aid their training but by doing so it marked the end of what was a flawed but reasonable competition

VFL: 2023 Fixture
they started the season early because of only one practice match thus another bye at VFL level It's a mickey mouse comp unfortunately

Training Ground?
Spot on But closed fields for elite male sports don't cut it.

Training Ground?
Port Melbourne would be magnificent but it needed doing 30 years ago when you could have picked up adjoining land for a good price. As it is now it's probably just a little too small for a top class complex. 2 ovals, pool, gym, wet weather training area and admin centre. On the other hand it's probably similar in size to Tigers at Punt Rd. And of course you have Port FC and Port Phillip Council

The 2023 Funding Ladder
They had a loan facility. Not sure that they ever drew down against it. Their main concern was zero games in 2020 and therefore no TV or stadium revenue. The 2020 season was restarted and the crisis averted even though overall revenue was down

The 2023 Funding Ladder
Would like to see what drives the revenues of the various clubs. Of course it's a combination but what are the big drivers? Raw membership numbers Reserved seat sales Gate receipts from away team supporters Coteries Sale of home games ( Hawthorn, North MFC) Merchandising Somewhat surprised if our subsidy did not go down in 2022 (did it) on the back of the 2021 success. Gold Coast and GWS are a continual basket case neither of which have shown financial improvement since their entry into the competition. Port Adelaide is an enigma especially when you compare them to Freo (Both second teams in a football mad city with similar populations)

Best Value Way to Watch the Footy...?
Kayo just increased its monthly price $25 = One screen $30= Two screens $35 = Three screens The Telstra subscribers discount is finished. Some AFL clubs are allowing members a $220 per year ($19 per month) subscription. (Bulldogs). Not sure if MFC offers a similar deal. Of course if you were intending to cancel over summer this deal is more expensive than a month to month subscription

Kozzy Pickett Re-Signs for 4 Years
We've now hit the mainstream media https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/kysaiah-pickett-to-be-given-time-to-weigh-up-future-20230130-p5cglx.html Melbourne are confident they have created the perfect environment to convince livewire forward Kysaiah Pickett to extend his time at the Demons beyond this season, but they will not be rushing him to decide on his future.

2023 Pass Mark
Tend to agree but perhaps making PF is the pass with making GF the expectation. Forward structure is the big unknown

Kozzy Pickett Re-Signs for 4 Years
As I said in my post I have no idea but it's clear that the Jackson strategy failed. They've had a year to think up a better one. At the start of the Jackson saga most said Freo didn't have the "trade resources" but turned out they did. The problem is that if you offer a player mega dollars no other club than the offering club is likely to compete. That leaves you with the choice of taking what is offered or forcing the player into the PSD. One strategy is to get other clubs interested in the player. If needed offer to pay part of the salary for a few years. Assuming you can attract interest from elsewhere and thus scaring off the "attacking club" the player is more likely to stay. Not perfect by any means but it's a strategy.

Yep wonder when interest moves to concern and then to worry. From there it's despair before angry acceptance. From a trade aspect I have no idea what the correct tactics are but I hope we have a better plan than we did for Jackson. Have great sympathy for our list/salary cap management staff. The general rule is that players are well paid until say 25 years of age at which time they get the big deal. We were unlucky that Jackson got the mega deal offer at 21. Looking like Kozzie will get a similar offer. A perfect storm when for the first time in decades we have 5 plus very good/elite players in the over 25 brigade

Why Luke Dunstan came to Melbourne
Some good points there. Perhaps the role could be shared between Dunstan and Sparrow via the sub mechanism. I'm still a believer in picking a team having regard to conditions (wet, dry, heat etc) and the strengths/weaknesses of the opposition. Obviously Goodwin has another view
