  1. Really hope you are right Binman - we have a difficult draw remaining and my personal opinion is that we need to finish top 4 and more importantly get a home final if we are a serious threat to go all the way I'd love to think we can win this week - if we don't its obviously not the end of the world but we would want to start performing at a higher level soon I watched Trac closely this week and he just seemed to lack his normal explosive power and couldn't seem to run at pace for any length of time - a few weeks ago that wasn't the case I was also blown away to see that 8 of the top 10 possession getters in the Swans game were MFC players - in that scenario I'm still shocked we lost the game
  2. Fritta is our best forward - TMac would be my # 2 then a big gap thereafter If he has a long term injury that is a serious problem for this team going forward I genuinely feel we need to try something new whether it be Joel Smith (unfortunately injured) or Petty in F50 Weid, BBB and M Brown have almost zero physical presence
  3. I think Goodwin's presser was very pointed - Sam is being asked to put his "big boy pants" on or there isn't a spot for him in the team Talent alone just doesn't get results at AFL level - earlier in the year Goodwin gave Sam credit for his performances (which at the time I thought was overly generous) however my sense is Goodwin now feels that he has been let down by Sam's lack of physicality - we have said it many times before but unfortunately time may have run out for Sam to make it
  4. BB hardly set the world on fire when he was playing at Casey Don’t recall him ever kicking bags of goals consistently - he did get reported I guess that’s “form” of some sort
  5. May to replace Tomlinson Hibberd to replace either Hunt or Bowey ( both seem to be low on confidence) Petty to go forward and create a contest - BBB Casey Daniel Turner to take Petty’s back position M Brown probably stays because we have nobody better atm
  6. I think we should chase McStay he is a Flemington straight better than Weid, and the Browns As shown in yesterdays Casey game JVR is a long way off
  7. Tomlinson - just too slow Trac - looks totally off Brown B - really quite embarrassing Max - did everything possible Salem - rusty but ok Harmes - not very effective Jackson - just a game Viney - tried very hard Lever - struggles without #1 Spargo - had little influence Brayshaw - not worst defender Bedford - better than BBB Oliver - tried but ineffective Langdon - still looked injured Bowey - becoming a worry Jordon - lacks the polish Hunt - stick to basics ANB - some good things Fritta - flashes of brilliance Sparrow - very costly errors Pickett - very rarely involved M Brown - not AFL player
  8. I've likened him to Greg Williams - yes he has a long way to go to reach those heights but obviously the club have faith he can make it IMO he has lots of work ahead to get fitter and get to more contests so he can accumulate more possessions because when he gets it he does tend to use it very well (a bit like Charlie Spargo) I have a feeling he might be that rare breed of footballer that plays better when at the highest level - only time will tell but hope I'm right
  9. Looks a promising recruit - good luck Charlotte hopefully a premiership medal in your first year in red and blue
  10. I'm not wanting to be negative re Weid but he just doesn't seem to like the physical contest - if that's true he will never be any good as a key back
  11. I really don't understand why they haven't put more time into him to develop his forward skills. We seem to have reasonable depth down back particularly with the emergence of Daniel Turner who I think may have a future I'm far from convinced that BB and Weid are capable of delivering consistently - our tall forward stocks are our biggest weakness if you ask me - the development of JVR and possibly the emergence of Joel Smith as tall forward options is really important if we are to improve
  12. I get where you are coming from Binman re Tomlinson being more physical but I'm not sure he is a forward If he is to be part of the tall forward solution I think its more likely that he does so by releasing either Petty or J Smith from the back six I realise Smith is injured so isn't an option right now but I've always held a view that he should have been trialed more as a forward. He does have the strength to go one on one, can leap, take a contested mark and a lot quicker than either Weid or BB - is his kicking reliable - not 100% sure. I'm sure people here will say he has been tried and failed as a forward - that is BS in my view he has played very few games and most in the back six
  13. I can tell you there are plenty of swans fans that feel they are good things this week Most of the ones I know think we have been plodding for weeks now getting by on a decent quarter here and there They always match up well against us and I'm sure this week will be no different - tough game - tough selection choices coming up too
  14. Yep sometimes at VFL level. He does bring the ball to ground by competing in the air and in my opinion is less likely to be completely out positioned like Weid seems to consistently. Having said that TMac is a far better bet if fit than Mitch Brown at AFL level Really hard to make a case for BB getting a run based on his recent efforts I was really disappointed when Joel Smith got injured because he is so important in terms of giving us more options to shuffle players when we have injuries or form issues. As an example he would allow Petty to move forward and let BB find form at Casey
  15. Disappointing that JVR didn't play as I'm sure many supporters are keen to see his progression Of the demon listed players that played Tomlinson and Turner the best by some margin Deakyn Smith, Woewodin, and McVee played their part. Mitch Brown is good at attacking the ball in the air and bringing it to ground but he's another Weideman I think (just not quite there to consistently contribute in the AFL) Pretty disappointing games from Laurie - those calling for him to play AFL are way off the mark atm
  16. Having watched a fair amount of Casey this season I'd be shocked if Laurie was selected as wing - at this stage he does not appear anywhere fit enough for that role. Nor does he have great pace - what he does have is good footy IQ, evasive skills, great hands and good kicking skills albeit over shorter distance (the player he reminds me most of is Greg Williams - I know that is a stretch but just think he is the closest like for like. Whether he will ever get close to Diesel is anyone's guess - if he does he will be a very handy player)
  17. Agree FT that Langdon is impossible to replace as he is really a unique player - I've watched a fair bit of Casey this season and agree Baker has been pretty good but mainly playing back - he has tended to struggle in the AFL but he does deserve to be in the conversation especially if Salem isn't ready I'm probably not Dunstan's biggest fan but to be fair he hasn't played that much in the senior team and it's natural that he would take some time to adjust to our system. Having said that if Viney is good to go then Luke probably misses Bedford deserves more game time - he is quick, has great evasion and can hit the scoreboard - I think he will be a player for us given more time on the ground BBB is on shaky ground if you ask me - he should have kicked at least one goal but missed a sitter. He does add value by presenting high up the ground as a tall marking option and his field kicking is very good. He was well beaten on the weekend however and wouldn't want to repeat that performance again. He was probably lucky Casey didn't play this week because if Weid had of performed well it would have made things difficult for the selectors
  18. Indeed I would love to see Sydney rip the blue pretenders apart
  19. I suspect we will never agree on this and that's ok From where I sit either one of those guys could still play great football today even if there are zone defence now With great footy IQ and skills they would adapt quickly and still shine - again just my opinion Either way we will never know but back on topic I think JVR has the potential to be a very handy forward given time and there is no need to rush him
  20. Sydney are a club that simply has to have a marque player and rather than develop their own (Heeney is pretty close imo) they insist of that player coming in from outside Plugger Buddy potentially Martin There is a definite trend here
  21. He was there to kick goals and kick goals he did Equal least number of games to kick 100 goals (With John Coleman) Tackles - no not his strength but I'd still love him in our team
  22. Really ? Did you see Jakovich or Dunstall play ? I don't think either could be described in that way,. Both had exceptional footy IQ, great strong hands on the lead, beautiful kicks for goal and fantastic at protecting the drop zone when competing for marks one on one. Both incredible talents and both would still do very well today - obviously just my opinion
  23. Height in itself can be an advantage however it can also mean you are less mobile Personally I would prefer a fit Allen Jakovich (187cm) or Jason Dunstall (191cm) than BBB as our FF but that's just me
  24. What utter BS from the hoax and farce that is the AFLs MRO There was zero malice in Chandlers tackle - how he gets a two match suspension and Hawkins consistently gets away with everything is a complete joke
  25. I am on record as saying JVR has great potential and is developing well at Casey BUT IMO he is not ready to produce more than BBB, Fritta, TMac or even Weid at AFL level and there is absolutely no pressing need to play him at that level yet (unless we have senior players unavailable). The comparison with Jakovich is not particularly relevant and Jakovich was simply a freak and more physically ready to deliver at senior level JVR is still a pup in footballing terms - he is really benefitting from building his fitness and strength competing against senior players (most of the time) at Casey. He has admitted himself it has been a big step up in training loads etc this year. Lets not get too far ahead of ourselves with his latest performance because the opposition was not that strong He will get his chance when the time is right - our coaches and football department have been doing a great job developing our young players and I have complete confidence in their judgement to play him when they feel he is ready
