  1. to 'beat cancer' and compete at all would have been an astounding enough achievement without having to win le tour, let alone do it seven times. the real philosophical head scratcher is whether or not the end (by which I mean inspiration for countless people, not the actual sporting achievements) justifies the means. close call for mine, i'm inclined to say it does however it really depends on the magnitude of the outcry over what seems to be the inevitable fall from grace
  2. When was the last time a team sacked a good player* for off field behaviour? We don't exactly have a list full of angels either *other than Fev, who made his problems so public that the clubs genuinely had no choice
  3. impressed with Goss last night, positioned himself well to take out the mid-stage sprint and wasn't far off it at the finish despite seeming to get caught in a bit of traffic. Cavendish ain't no slouch, either early days but BMC are looking very organised, looking forward to seeing how they perform tonight
  4. get the bloke from Violet town who kicked 34 goals 9 on the weekend!
  5. ... which is still behind our mid round pick mid round compo pick for Boak sounds like a big win for mine an even bigger win will be if as suggested we can secure a deal with GWS to get our hands on Viney with a 2nd round pick, but does anyone else here have that feeling that given goins on to date we might be wasting our breath seeking anything that may be of benefit to us from Sheeds and Co? and what would the deal look like, pick 4 for a 17 yo selection and a 'keep your grubby hands off Viney'?
  6. Reading the link provided on the previous page I reckon you're spot on there. Devastated.
  7. he is an absolute gem, and the fact that he does what he does with such a scrawny frame only make him more impressive. heard the commentators say yesterday that he was playing seniors football in the country (Dartmoor rings a bell?) at 14 fact of the matter is to get him, we would have to give up someone of Watts calibre at a minimum. not advocating that we do mind you, but he is that good already
  8. so by your logic we should have spent the last 5 years staying home with the curtains drawn waiting until we started winning games? funny, sounds to me to describe the polar opposite of a supporter comedy costumes and banner bearers of verified appeal but dubious authenticity aside, good on 'em for getting showing a bit of resolve
  9. typical Sheedy, deflecting the attention away from their woeful performance perhaps?
  10. Loved the roar when Watts pinpointed the pass to Trenners who nailed the captains goal Said it all for me, Tom who? Will doubtless turn out to be a good player, but will never reach level to justify the Gary Ablett coin he is on. Good luck to you Giants, may you forever struggle to hold your emerging talent with his bloated salary on your books
  11. from a journo perspective he was far from alone, but from an MFC perspective he was the only one with a media profile who had the balls to step on T$'s precious little toes while everyone else was going to extraordinary lengths to heap praise on his character. theres a difference between saying "i reckon he will go" and saying that your a 98% sure of it
  12. reckon we are in a far better position to meet Boak's monetary demands than the cats, which is who all the talk in centered on. give me 6-7 years of proven (he gets injured, port gets rubbish) over 10 years of maybe very good any day as for Caddy, I don't see the value in giving up a high draft pick for someone was himself taken high but is effectively unproven - we are much better off spending that same high pick on a talented kid from this year's draft which those 'in the know' (i.e., 'not me') seem to think is a strong one. Pick 3 is off the table at any rate because regardless of whether or not you get GCS to drop any interest they might have, the Giants will still force our hand In our favour in this regard is the frankly terrible performance of the all of the GCS mature recruits not named Gary Ablett Jr means that they'd be screaming our for some older bodies, so an older player with something to offer (crucial point) is probably worth more to them than yet another kid to develop. question of course is who do we give up? Petterd may not have much currency with his inability to crack into our stellar line up (also believe he is contracted for another year or two), so we'll need to do better As for the Essendon link, they made a major play for him last year but couldn't get the deal over the line, from memory we made an 11th hour offer as well when the bombers deal fell through. as mentioned they will have nothing to offer and indeed much less than they had last year so we've definitely got a better chance than them
  13. Not to mention Valenti.... Sidebottom is the only one off that list worth chasing, could talked around to beams. Goddard won't return enough for what we'd have to pay him Back to the OP, it won't hurt to thow the proverbial suitcase of cash at him. Indeed we'd be crazy not to double our chances and offer the same to Cameron, who will be every bit as good if not better
  14. fellow refugee here. I have been tempted by the bright lights before but my loyalty held firm until the wash up of Monday's game with what is looking more and more like the terminal decline of 'Ology. remarkable that it stayed afloat with no one really at the helm for so long, for me I think that was part of the appeal there are only 2 reasons to go anywhere near bigfooty - the MS paint thread and the biffinator match previews
  15. What are your legs? Springs, steel springs....
  16. Dear god please let us bear north for a change. I hate losing to that embarrassment of a 'club' more than any other, the filth included And yes I know, people in glass houses re: embarrassment in recent times...
  17. the Fasolo hit was reckless at worst, but if the MRP is anywhere near the wavelength the men in yellow were on today we'll see him in a month and the helping hand to get Maxwell over the line, are you serious? that happens roughly a million times per round. Tappy himself was thrown head first into the boundary fence last week, big deal as others have said, its about time we had someone in red and blue that might make the opposition think twice. fortunately he can also play football, which is more than MMM's own 'push up' King could ever be accused of
  18. He took the game on, and even broke tackles despite being built like an anorexic 12 year old (side note: where was the spray for the filth player/s that let that happen Buckley? will be tarred and feathered at training tomorrow no doubt) given that his disposal was genuinely terrible at times today, why exactly would you not go on about that as opposed to having a crack at an area in which he has vastly improved?
