  1. Shafted yet again. The only difference this time is that it will be on commercial tv and it is the NAB cup opener so it will gain some exposure.
  2. Im pretty sure he played for Vic Metro in the 08 carnival. Like you i hold some hope that he will become a decent player as he has enough going for him if he can improve on the weaknesses in his game and stay injury free for a season.
  3. If i was a psychic like you and knew at the time for certain that Chris Johnson wasnt going to make it and be delisted 2 years later then i would be happy for him to try his luck elswhere. The fact is he walked out on the club when he had a contract offer on the table. To me thats disloyal and selfish, the opposite traits of what i want our players to possess. Why should i feel remorse for him. I feel remorse for cut players because it is part of the game that is unavoidable. Rather than worry so much about a nobody like Johnson you should feel remorse for people like David Neitz and Jim stynes who gave their all for the club and couldnt have the success they deserved. Or are you still too busy feeling sorry for Jeff Farmer, Powell and scott Thompson?
  4. I think anytime a player walks out on our club we are justufied in being resentful or at least able to express vindication when it doesnt work out better for that player. Particularly given the fact he was the son of a Melbourne champion and seemed to show no respect for the direction of the club and the opportunity he was being given considering his limited talents. I for one am ecstatic to see that it didnt work out for him and im not ashamed of that.
  5. Ive never seen such an average player with such an inflated opinion of themselves. Another small win for the Mfc.
  6. Not sure whats worse, Crows and AAMI or Hawks at home (given the beltings they normally give us).
  7. Suppose thats the main answer to my question, different philosophys of different football departments. It would be interesting to see how we would have fared in that 07 draft if BP and co were already in charge of recruiting compared to the choices Cameron made. Grimes was a beauty, but questions may need to be asked about the other picks at such a crucial time in our rebuild. Easy in hindsight i suppose.
  8. Id like to know what Melbourne saw in Kyle Cheney that resulted in them drafting him in the first place given its been pretty clear from day dot that he didnt possess what they were/are looking for?

  10. Not that i particularly want Hale, but this will be a huge test of how far the club has come, whether a player picks us over a club like Hawthorn.
  11. Completely agree, im shocked at what has been offered if in fact Hutchy is right. Just bemusing to give up pick 12 on another Paul Johnson type.
  12. I couldnt stomach a true champion of ours running around for the Blues. Lets hope it doesnt eventuate.Whats with the Blues poaching our players?
  13. Can anyone tell me whether the Redlegs reserved seats on level 2 are open air or under cover? Ive never been on level 2.
  14. +1 Sure the umpiring wasnt the only reason we lost but they were extremely influential at crucial times, as mentioned above. They swung the momentum many times and i believe being on the end of such appalling decisions can really affect your morale.
  15. In fairness to Heartbeatstrue some of his fresh air handballs and 90 degree slice kicks can look quite bad. His disposal is generally good though, he just needs to bridge the gap between good and bad. However his ground level work is very impressive (particularly in the wet) and his work rate is getting better and better. Cant wait for him to get more confidence inside 50.
  16. Good call on Watts. I saw Cheney put his body on the line numerous times and won free kicks in front of packs a couple of times which prevented shots on goal for the bombers. He is not as bad a player as everyone makes out, although he has a lot to learn.
  17. West Coast may just prevent us from winning another spoon, but regardless, this season is turning into a massive and concerning failure. Given our draw we may only end up with 1 or 2 wins more than last year at best, a year which we tanked to lose at least 2 games. Im actually questioning whether Bailey can actually "develop" players like he says he can. Guys like Jamar and Frawley would probably have improved to these levels regardless of who is coaching. Not many of our younger players have shown significant development in the last 3 years. We have many promising draft picks from 2007/2008 (eg. Morton, Strauss, Maric, Wanna, Warnock) floundering in the reserves when they should be starting to show something in their second and third years. Our skill level is actually deteriorating rather than improving. Its really questionable how much we have developed overall in the last 3 years. Other than increased potential talent on the list, the last 2 months have shown me that we really arent that far off where we were at at the beginning of Baileys Reign. Questions need to be asked.
  18. im thinking the bench will be: Joel Macdonald, Tom Scully, Jordie McKenzie, Jake Spencer If Mortons bad game got him dropped then Warnock was worse so should go also.
  19. Intersting.....Could the 2008 "superdraft" turn out similar to the 2001 draft for us????
  20. Miller's complete inability to take a contested mark or to use his body strenght to advantage means what you are saying is irrelevent. Anyway hes hardly Jonathan Brown himself in the courage stakes.
  21. I think i read that Casey has a bye this week? Pity, as it means whoever gets dropped wont be able to find touch in the VFL. That means two weeks without footy for whoever it is, which seems pointless. For that reason i hope Watts and Gys keep their spots.
  22. Strauss interests me also. At the moment he looks to be a one trick pony. Good skills but little else. I hope he is able to develop the defensive and ball winning side of his game. Beams and Hannebry were also available at that stage of the draft so I hope he proves us wrong. The thing that surprises me about Cheney is that the club knew what they were getting when they drafted him. Did they think he would magically grow 5cm or gain a yard of pace? I personally think he has the potential to play well at AFL level but it seems the coaching staff dont think so.
  23. I remember that night, Schwarz taps to Leoncelli who runs in and kicks the winning goal in the driving rain. Geez that was a lifetime ago now. Shocking record.
