  1. I suspect Turner is meant to be Taberner. Yeah, I suspect Freo were hoping for an end of 1st round pick for North to go through to them. The future picks North get are likely to be in the 19-22 and mid-late 30's. Freo would certainly have their eye on at last the first if not both. Not sure what it means for North's pick 1.
  2. Sometimes it is a fine line. Last year GCS traded Brodie, a player they didn't want, couldn't get a game in the seniors to Freo and gave them the very valuable pick 19 and two later picks in the process for just a some future picks A very one-sided trade the AFL approved. The article is saying the AFL will approve more lop-sided trades this year. The AFL wants clubs to clear their tight sal caps. It would be very easy for clubs to 'dress up' a 'salary for picks' trade by including 'steak knives' in the deal. I just hope we are able to take advantage of this opening as our sal cap is said to be very tight.
  3. I think it would be extremely unlikely to get a pick from them. They will expect and I think will get one from us. My comment was rather hypothetical as I doubt we have the sal cap to take all of Grundy's $ but it does open the door to hard bargaining if we choose to.
  4. Not sure where to put this and its not really worth of a new thread revealed-north-s-draft-assistance-package Fairly minimal really. An extra 2nd and extra 3rd round, 2023 pick that must be used to trade this year for player(s). What that does is fill out their draft picks this year which are: 1, 55, 66, 73. And 2 extra rookie spots. It is pleasing the AFL didn't give them a bunch of first round/end of first round picks since most of their recent pain was pretty much self inflicted by decimating their own list and FD staff.
  5. Looks like we are getting close to 'salary dumping' this year: salary-dumps-to-drive-key-deals "...clubs are anticipating the League will be more open to approving deals that allow clubs to complete lopsided trades in which the team that receives a player (and takes on his contract) also gains a strong draft selection or selections. The AFL is expected to be willing to allow more significant salary dumps so that clubs can clear their own tight caps whilst seeing other clubs use their spare cash and get rewarded for taking on a player's money and adding draft selections..." If I read this correctly, if we take all of Grundy's $ we should ask for a draft pick from Coll...🤔?
  6. Freo were gone for all money at half time: 6.8.44 to 2.7.19. The we were overrun due to injuries, illness and some good tactics. It was the 'recency effect' in play by the umpires; they forgot the first half for which none of our players were rewarded.
  7. The coaches votes differential were very similar to the (Brownlow). Oliver: 98 (25). Petracca: 89 (24). It looks to me the umpires voted it similarly to the coaches and not on 'styles'. When saying Petracca is 'pinching' votes it is saying he isn't worthy of those votes. To me that is talking him down.
  8. We all want Oliver to win a Brownlow. But, I don't know why people need to talk down Petracca to praise Oliver...one could say Oliver is pinching votes from Petracca. Just saying.
  9. Why the faceplam for my post. Finals don't count for the Brownlow.
  10. That was in a final.
  11. Technically, they should be able to re-time Grundy's $ to the years when other players retire entirely or retire into lower contracts. Of course the elephant in the room is how much they backended...
  12. I can only assume it is a 'press glass in an emergency' play... ...18 games in 8 years says it all. Relying on Cox as their relief ruck/resting fwd is a risky play for mine. They must have someone in mind when he goes in a year or two to play with Cameron. Maybe Grundy will relent and take a pay cut...
  13. So, you would prefer him to be a sore loser like Scott in last year's PF who used 'illness' as an excuse?
  14. If they trade Oliver Henry as is likely it will save a few hundred K. Jordan Roughead will retire and that is another few hundred K. Next year they are free of the $300k they are paying Treloar Those three plus the many 'journeymen' out of contract this year if not renewed could easily add to about $1.0m altho' some will go to draftees/rookies. I doubt De Goey will get much more than he currently gets. It is also likely they will spread the incoming players $ to coincide with the retirement/salary reductions of Pendlebury, Howe, Cox, Sidebottom.
  15. If it wasn't for his $ I'm sure they would. Like us they are not a very tall team. Those over 1.95m are ruckman Cameron, Cox (32 next year) the incoming Frampton who has played 18 games in 8 years and Moore. Their tallest forward will be Mcstay at 1.95. Next tallest backman is Howe (33 next year) at 1.9m It might suit their game plan to not be tall but in the next few years they will need to replace a few of their tallest players. As will mfc. They must have another plan for their tall player replacements otherwise giving up Grundy for $ seems rather risky.
  16. In the next few days we should get the delistings and retirements. And maybe some trade requests. Players remaining OOC: Hibberd, Melksham: reported to have been offered a contract Hunt, Bedford: reported to have been offered an mfc contract and other clubs showing interest M. Brown (R): reported to be retiring Baker, Rosman: candidates for delisting That suggests a max of 5 changes on the list and 2-3 spots in our selected 22. More if contracted players are traded. We just have to make room for JVR, Turner, Chandler, Woewodin, Laurie and possibly Howes to break into the selected 22 at some stage next year. With the exception of Howes who spent a large part of the year injured, they all seem to have put on some bulk and will be stronger with another preseason.
  17. Wrong thread.
  18. Last year's draftees and Laurie (who was injured most of his first year) look like they have put on quite a bit of bulk this year. I would be very surprised if most of them don't get a go next year. We just have to trade out a few of the incumbants.
  19. I'm sure they will but I wouldn't want to be the sad kid that walks off the podium without one...
  20. Two kids giving out a cap and a medal but only one footy to give back 😟
  21. Classy words by the losing Captain.
  22. Big game starting in 30 minutes. We have a great track record vs Lions at Casey , altho the conditions there today will be very ordinary. This is a big scalp to get as Lions will be a major contender. Win and we are outright top 2.
  23. Extraordinary bro love and hugs for Weideman. Do the players think he is leaving? Would love to be able to use him in the seniors in a new role.
  24. The irony is Geelong and Sydney became us and we became them! They had two of the more controlling, tempo and defensive game plans and we were the daring and 'chaos' team (along with Richmond). Now Scott and Longmire take the game on and do anything to take territory. We have gone all defensive. But, we haven't lost the dare and attack style of the GF as it was replicated in round 23 at the Gabba. Round 23 is what gives me hope (and confidence) that we will come back a better version of our 2021 selves.
  25. In what way? The comment was in the context of 'fresh blood' and list changes.
