NON-MFC: Rd 03 2023
So what happened to the 'upgrade' of penalties in week 1 to Pickett and McAdam for 'potential to cause damage'. Logue and Acres got one week with no 'upgrade'. Its one thing for the AFL to 'take a stand' on a principle ala Pickett and McAdam but then to drop it a few weeks later is farcical! More importantly it sends completely the wrong message to players.

What they are saying at Lathlain Park
Bigfooty: Not much to report so far. Understandably they are preoccupied with their injuries and replacements. There appears to be some new injury outs that haven’t been reported in the media yet. They are expecting at least 5 and maybe 7 injured players from last week to be 'forced' changes. I detect resignation more than doom. There was still room for a bit of humour by a few posters. Well, everyone who wanted the over 30s out in lieu of playing the kids got their wish... If culley doesn’t get a game I’ll spew Lets do a Sam Mitchell Cleansing now get ready for Mid Season draft and then End of Season/Draft & Trade. We aren’t beating Melbourne. Melbourne will easily be the shortest price favorites for the round. What was the injury to SPS? Been real good in the two games he’s played… …s**t haircut I have a morbid excitement to watch this weekend with the forced youth policy. The emotional part of me says I've well and truly had a gutful of these highly remunerated but often absent 'credits' boys and can the lot of them. The more rational part says if we chuck out ALL the oldies then we're asking for the pain that Hawks/Norf are currently going through and in the past Melbourne/Carlton have experienced. What concerns me about this week is that with no rotations in the 4th quarter last week you can bet that those that were left were being pushed in the "red zone" as the sport scientists call it. In other words being more vulnerable to injury.. someone ******* throw this medical department out, enough is enough. Fritsch is the one I see causing us big problems. I don't see a good match up for him. My favourite: Oh dear, playing Melbourne ... Waterman would be great in a good team I'll check in again later in the week after selections.

COACHES VOTES: Rd 03 2023
Based on Goodwin's post game pres conf I would guess his votes to be: 5 - Oliver 4 - Grundy 3 - Langdon 2 - Petracca Which means Longmire's votes would be 5 - Petracca 4 - Oliver 3 - Langdon 2 - Grundy Can't guess the 1 votes. NB: Pure guesses!

COACHES VOTES: Rd 03 2023
Votes: 9 - Oliver 7 - Petracca 6 - Langdon 6 - Grundy 1 - Hunter 1 - Chandler Not surprised a Sydney player didn't get a vote. How do you work out the neutrals? It sounded like 75% dees...

NON-MFC: Rd 03 2023
Great to see Matt Rowell get back to his stellar career start after awful injury setbacks: "... putting together three brilliant performances. He had 28 disposals to stand almost one-out against Sydney, followed it with 22 against Essendon and then racked up 24, along with game highs in contested possessions (18), clearances (nine) and pressure acts (30) vs Geelong". That is an unreal set of numbers! Reckon he will give the Brownlow a bit of a shake this year. iirc mid last year someone from the club said GCS had been the hardest game. It was at Metricon where this year's game will be. I'm sure we won't take it lightly.

Clayton Oliver - Early favourite for the 2023 Brownlow Medal?
Oliver has a better chance with Max not playing to take votes from him. A few BOG's over the next month will go a long way to getting him home.

What they are saying at Moore Park
Yes lack of discipline was the context but I felt he didn't need to add the bit about 'handing it to them on a plate' as they also scored from our frees/50's against.

What they are saying at Moore Park
4 cheats = 4 umpires. Clearly a one-sided view of the umpiring. Even Longmire commented in his post game press conf that we got 2 goals from 50m and 3 from free kicks. Paraphrasing: "Handed them 5 goals on a platter". I thought poor form on his part even to mention that and also to not acknowledge how many they got and some of theirs were very dubious! Sour grapes!

What they are saying at Moore Park
Bigfooty A post from late last week!! That didn’t age well 🙃 Post Game, Thread Title: Done by the Demons by 50 points They were quite gracious. Not sure where the smart alecs in the preview thread are hiding. Quite fair commentary of their performance with little maligning of their players. First quarter Melbourne rebounded out the fat side at will with pace and were happy to concede clearance. Hit up the right targets and refused to kick long. 5 goals up in a flash. Well played Dees they were inspired and executed their instructions Not alarm bells but ******* cranky that we lack the hard yakka Better side won and deserved to win take nothing away Not panic stations yet. We are a good side who had a bad day and unfortunately came up against a good side who were on fire today. How often does a side get done after an easy win the week before? There's something about beating up on a weaker opponent that breeds complacency. Melbourne seemed to disproportionately take their chances. Every time we had a tiny skill error, they made us pay. Little worrying that if we are to be a top side you probably should’ve be getting touch ups on the big stage. We are spooked I reckon and could be some mental scars. Our rucks have a nasty habit of getting involved in possession chains and it either slows us down or they stuff it up They had no Gawn and Pickett also . Pretty embarrassing Odd game, didn't feel like a 50 point battering but here we are. Rolled over to at the end I’m not sure they have the mental edge either...soft unit Melbourne mids were back to their premiership best imo. Read the plays to perfection all day long. Dunno how Brisbane beat them. It’s a funny game. The Dees were so slick today. First game back there and our first real test this year...Failed big time...Maybe not a top 4 team Two players who I'm really disappointed in are Mills & Parker... While Oliver & Petracca had 15 & 16 disposals respectively by half time, Mills and Parker had 8 each. To Melbourne's credit, they were amazing. They adapted to every single thing we tried to do. We won clearances, so they pressured to force our clearances into turnovers. We started getting our defensive 50 transition game going, so they set up to shut it down... Heeney in the finals last year was pretty ordinary...Struggles a little with the main stage Beaten up by a better team and 4 cheats Omg those photos of Horse spraying Heeney at 3QT. **** me Anyone who thinks we are a realistic chance at a premiership is kidding themselves. We were found out today just like in GF and again let down by poor coaching. How we were not primed for today, after 2 soft kills, is nothing short of poor preparation but the coach, and not for the first time. Broke our back in the last. 11 goals is insane, pretty much only them and Collingwood could do that much damage in a last quarter. I sometimes wonder why I follow footy, a loss is always so deflating haha. Even when we got thumped in the grand final they never kick more than 6 in a quarter. 11 blows the game out of proportion. My Favourites: Several contenders After witnessing the Port autopsy thread, I’ve come to appreciate what a measured, philosophical bunch we are in responding to loss. I think I'll go and watch a murder documentary because I definitely want to commit one after that lol

Trade Rumours 2023
That report by Browne is wrong. King is out of contract next year but not a Restricted Free Agent until 2026. Before 2016 it needs to be a trade. I read the other day that Coll have plenty of sal cap space 😲 Ess probably also has. Saints will have if they can move on a few of their highly paid recruits. We are the only ones that has the trade currency this year.

Membership Tally 2023
Is it? It is the number of memberships (products) actually sold which is accurate and verifiable by auditors etc. We all know that number is greater than the actual number of members but it is not wrong nor inflated.

PREGAME: Rd 03 vs Sydney
Besides Buddy the two Sydney additions are interesting; both small/medium forwards. Hall-Kahan appears to not have played an AFL game and Sheldrick (their first round pick in 2021) has played one. Their website says: "Angus Sheldrick (28 disaposals) and Hugo Hall-Kahan (21 disposals, one goal) also feature in the extended squad after their impressive performances in the VFL" Looks like Longmire has a specific plan. Maybe he is going for the high pressure, run us off our feet approach and rely on a small(er) forward line. It will be interesting who comes out for them and for Buddy.

Membership Tally 2023
The title of this thread is 'Membership Tally'. It is not 'Members Tally'. So discussion herein is for the number of memberships, or using your word 'products' sold. Memberships (or products) is the AFL's KPI - it is not something used by mfc or other clubs to dupe the public or other stakeholders. Noone is pretending that the number of memberships equals the number of members. I don't know why you persist in telling us the difference when everyone understands the difference.

Trade Rumours 2023
No idea of his reasons but it made me think the Hawks may lose a few talented youngsters. A few commentators this week openly called out Mitchell's deep list cull as 'Tanking'. Today's breed of youngsters aren't going to accept ruined careers like some from yesteryear, at a club that is a perennial loser for the first half of their career. It is much easier for a player to move clubs now. I wouldn't be surprised if the Hawks lose quite a bit of young talent for that reason.

Rooey's Debut!!!
This week he has a job to do: help JvR and Grundy even if it is off the bench. He can rest after this week when we play Eagles, Ess, Hawks and North.

Death Riding Fremantle 2023 - Feathered Cap Edition
Some folks need to look at the GF 3rd qtr again. Jackson was directly involved in at least 5 of the 7 goals in its last 10 minutes. I would go out on a limb and say we would not have had that 3rd qtr run on without him. Sure the run on would not have happened without the mids but Jackson not only did the CB ruck work giving them first use of the ball he also ran with his midfielders to link up play creating goals for them. Would we have won without him? Maybe but it would have been a hard slog to come from 3-5 goals down at 3/4 time. As it was we sailed home. Our run on broke the Bulldogs. We gave Jackson the opportunity to play and develop with us and in that 3rd quarter he paid us back in spades. He doesn't deserve the rubbish said about him in this thread. That is best kept for Freo and Bell; the real protagonists in this.

Judd McVee Signs Extension until 2025
My read of the article is that we will sign him on the same basis as Chandler and Turner: two years with the first (2024) as a rookie then promote him to the senior list in 2025.

Rooey's Debut!!!
Goodwin on van Rooyed debut: young-demon-to-make-debut-against-high-flying-swans "He's trained with these guys for a few years now, so he's got pretty good cohesion with this group already, and one thing you'll see from big Rooey is his ability to compete aerially," Goodwin said. "He goes at the ball hard, he creates a contest and his follow-up at ground level is exceptional. "We won't be asking him to do too much other than that for us." Nice way to keep expectations of him realistic. JvR effectively replaces Max in our fwd line so we won't need Grundy for that role. TMac is there to help Grundy ruck at CB and fwd 50. And to be our marking target when exiting our d50. It helps that if Ladhams is out, Sydney have no experienced ruckman. We will miss Max's towering presence but reckon we have his role covered.

Vice captain
The last time Viney was stand in captain we massacred the Lions on the MCG. He has his flaws but his 'follow me' style of on-field leadership is underrated on here. Lead from the front and he can leave all the tactical on-field stuff to others who are more than capable in that regard.
