  1. I assume you mean end of season interviews? Those players not in Casey finals would have been completed and we wouldn't expect any delistings there. If you asking why we haven't heard any news on exits/delistings, it would be fair to assume that any list changes will come from players currently in the Casey finals.
  2. No longer a demon but wanted to acknowledge Jamie Bennell who has been delisted by the Eagles after 93 games for the two teams: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-09-12/eagles-delist-six-after-early-finals-exit A nice pic of him in his Demons jumper in that article. His instagram message: "Thanks to these two clubs for giving me the opportunity to play at the highest level and live out a childhood dream. #plentyoffootyleft". He is all class! Good luck with the next venture.
  3. Interesting info but I have a different take. The players finished at the club after Thursday training and have probably not been back since. So the Friday was a good time for Roos to clean up and say goodbye to club staff. If players interpret it as 'Roos has mentally checked out so we couldn't care less' it is very childish and an indictment not of Roos but of the mental application and resilience of the players and the leadership group. I reckon the players were tired for Geelong but if there was a 'couldn't care less' attitude, I would bet it was because they 'checked out' before the Carlton game and were on 'easy street' (see Petracca interview in post above). Roos talked to this 'easy street' attitude after the Geelong game saying the players needed to see they were not a finals side as they had not believed it - implied in that is players thought they could rest on their laurels and it would all just happen. It was no coincidence that at the BnF Roos' last message to players was: it is their choice to be great, it will not happen by accident, they have to want it and work for it and the time to be great starts now. He was addressing their mental attitude, application and their desire - he saw what was happening pre Carlton. I believe players were tired for the Geelong game and accept they (may have) had the wrong attitude but not that it was because Roos cleared his desk.
  4. All clubs now have a 'New Generation Academy' but it is for multicultural and indigenous players, not all players like GWS et al have. Emma Quayle: http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/afl-clubs-to-get-free-shot-at-multicultural-and-indigenous-rookies-after-this-years-draft-20160727-gqexp2.html We have nominated Daniel Allsop for 2016 as a category B rookie if he is left undrafted after the main and rookie drafts. It isn't the same as you describe and like the old zoning system, clubs may try and exploit it by 'encouraging' budding player families to relocate into their zone to have first choice at drafting (on the same basis as Northern States). Our zone is South-east Melbourne (Dandenong Stingrays), Alice Springs (NT).
  5. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-09-11/complacent-demons-let-down-paul-roos-says-christian-petracca This makes me a bit angry: "We got a bit complacent against Carlton and thought, we've won three on the trot and everything's working well, this week it will come easy to us," from a 1st year player!!! Meanwhile a chance to make finals, establish their credibility, increase membership etc goes begging! Petracca continues: "Roos is a bit more old-school and sometimes gives a few sprays but his mentality is really good, Roosy, and he's positive. "With Goody, he's just understanding a bit more of relationships and obviously he's played in our generation, so he understands what it takes to make it a bit more." Did I just read a few back-handers to Roos!! So Christian, Roos is less understanding of relationships. Gee tell that to Jones, Watts, Viney, Gawn etc http://www.melbournefc.com.au/video/2016-09-09/tribute-to-paul-roos And, he gives sprays...Christian, are you still smarting over his spray after breaking your toe? Your Macca quote sounds like it! Petracca thinks Godowin knows better than Roos 'what it takes to make it'!! Well young Christian here is a message from a long standing, disillusioned supporter: Roos has the runs on the board as a coach. Goodwin does not!. If you really want to know 'what it takes to make it' as a coach and as a team look at Hawthorn - 3 premierships in a row not just 3 games in a row!! Petracca is a good kid albeit naive so deserves some slack but who at MFC is allowing first year players to be interviewed and make public those thoughts especially as they do not represent those of the team!! Goodwin really has his work cut out if that is the attitude of player(s) on what is required to be a successful team, coach and club.
  6. Grudgingly, I give Sheedy much credit for drafting players with 'mongrel' not just talent. He knew the type to win finals! Their traded in players: Johnson, Mumford, Shaw - all tough experienced hombres with premiership medals. So, I hate to say it but they have recruited and coached for finals. But like others I am appalled at GWS's draft concessions. I'm also surprised by the willingness of other clubs to trade high draft picks for 'second string' players ie highly talented but may not have 'mongrel'. I wonder if clubs will rue those trades when some turn out to be 'fools gold' - even with Hawthorn's system O'Rourke is mostly playing VFL and they gave their 1st and 2nd rnd pick. To rub salt into the wound it was reported that GWS want 2017 high draft picks as they have enough for 2016! If club's don't stop being bedazzled by GWS's apparent 'second string' riches and don't trade high draft picks for them nothing will stop the GWS juggernaut.
  7. No out there for GNF, if 'Gen dee' is proven to be correct. Quite the opposite. The 'Gen dee' reference was that Jesse was planning to stay, up until July when the homesickness set in. If so, its hard to see how GNF's claim in early August that Jesse had committed to the club was valid. 'Gen dees' info coincides with when the media started reporting that Jesse was waivering on whether to stay or go. In the last month Roos has several times deflected questions about Jesse and offered no optimism re him staying, in fact each time talked about family and the lure of home for Jesse. There is more info alluding to Jesse leaving than there is to him staying. Whose info to trust? No idea. We will all just have to wait.
  8. Thanks for the info Gen dee. Couldn't bring myself to like the post - made me very sad. But thanks again for passing that on. Edit: Coincidence that we played in Perth on July 23? Either that made him really homesick and didn't want to leave or someone from Freo got to him... At least he will let the club know to make list management decisions - small mercies...
  9. I liked his description of Hunt: "...will stop at nothing to get the best out of himself and will be a fantastic player for this club for a long time". I would say that Hunt is one of our better public speakers. He was composed, articulate, gracious and he remembered to thank supporters!! He has all the on and off field attributes to become a real leader for our club. No pressure but Hunt could easily become Viney's V.C.
  10. Am one of Roos biggest supporters on here but I thought it was not wise to say something negative about another club's predicament and he was setting himself up for a backlash and he knew it. It also showed a lack of knowledge of our club history of breakaway groups, Board overthrows and subsequent club disarray. That part of his speech was not one of Roos' finer oratory moments. Also, if another club's senior coach took a shot (however well intended) at our Club and our Board, Demonland would also rally to defend our club's honour.
  11. The B& F videos are up on the website Some interesting comments among them!
  12. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-09-07/trade-state-of-play-what-moves-will-your-club-make-in-the-offseason?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=RSS+feed%3A+AFL+Latest+News RE Brisbane: Who are they targeting? Although not outwardly chasing names at this stage, the Lions are desperate for key defenders to bolster a weak part of the ground. Don't be surprised if they hunt the likes of Eric Mackenzie, Colin Garland, Lynden Dunn or even throw a lifeline to discarded Kangaroo Michael Firrito to help their youngsters for a season or two. They may have got Garland and Dunn's names from Demonland... If they were targetted by Brisbane, whether they agree to move their families interstate to a club with its own mental scars and stuck at the bottom of the ladder (again) is another matter entirely.
  13. Yes "Rookie list promotions are included among the compulsory minimum of three selections that each club must have at the draft, but the names of these players will not be formally read out at the draft". http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-11-24/indicative-draft-order-your-clubs-provisional-picks-as-trade-period-unfolds I would be very surprised if Wagner is not one of those 3, given he has been nominated by MFC for the AFL Players Best First Year Player award. Edit: Dal Santo will be delisted making him a DFA. If he wants to play on the team he chooses gets him for 'free' and no draft pick required. Only need a list spot and salary cap.
  14. '7 a side' played on a small rectangular field - the Aussie Rules equivalent of 20/20 cricket. I take that back - it would no longer be Aussie Rules - it would be a hybrid of something (s), no idea what. AFL stop wasting money on 'new developments'!!! Gil, yes you want to be a hero and go down as the most innovative CEO who changed the face of the game. Well stop! First, just get the 18 clubs on a strong commercial footing with all clubs in a position to make Grand Finals regularly. Everything else is a distraction from the main game.
  15. Maybe he expected to win a top 5 or other Award... Reality check if he did. I thought his position on the BnF was about right.
  16. Discussion of Roos' speech at the B n F: http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/paul-roos-says-melbourne-united-richmond-in-disarray-in-farewell-speech/news-story/115f12006df77c0be0f041f29f1e68e8 Roos' own farewell message to the players: “Decide to be great. It is a decision, it doesn’t happen by accident,”...“You have to want to be great. And greatness is not going to happen when you turn up on November 1 or whenever you turn up and Simon has got the whistle in charge...“Greatness is going to happen when you walk out of this room tonight. That’s when greatness starts...“You have to commit to it you have to want to do it and I would love nothing more than to see Simon and Nathan holding up the premiership cup.” He has laid down the challenge: Greatness. Up to the players now. Hope they want it as badly as we do.
  17. Players often say that peer recognition is the most satisfying. Clubs make nominations for the different categories. The awards are decided all players in the comp. http://www.aflplayers.com.au/ Warning Alert: picket fence - turn away now! MFC nominees: BEST FIRST YEAR NOMINEE: Josh Wagner Interesting that Wagner got the nod ahead of Oliver for with 14/13 games played respectively. Obviously highly thought of. This suggests (to me) Wagner will be offered a contract on the main list for next year. This nomination and that he has played a heap of games injured shows that he may become a very valuable player for us. Went under the Demonland radar a bit in the second half. Well done to him for winning this nomination especially as he did it as a Rookie.
  18. Players often say that peer recognition is the most satisfying. It is decided by the Most Valuable Player award voted on by all players in the comp. http://www.aflplayers.com.au/ Warning Alert: picket fence - turn away now! MFC nominees are: MVP NOMINEES: Jack Viney, Max Gawn, Nathan Jones BEST FIRST YEAR NOMINEE: Josh Wagner MOST COURAGEOUS NOMINEE: Jack Viney CAPTAIN: Nathan Jones Interesting that Wagner got the nod ahead of Oliver for 'Best First Year Nominee' with 14/13 games played respectively. Obviously highly thought of. This suggests (to me) Wagner will be offered a contract on the main list for next year.
  19. Coaches look at much more than stats eg sticking to game plan, following instructions, leadership acts, team acts, pressure acts etc etc That average of 5 from 10 for the best performer means all of our players have considerable improvement in the eyes of the coaches. No argument there. What I like about our voting system (unlike a 3, 2, 1 type system) is it gives a much truer picture of where an individual player is at and his improvement to be made. Everyone can score votes (not just 3 players) and each player scores according to their contribution on the day. A comparison of 2016 votes vs 2015 shows that the coaches think the team has certainly improved. Last year the top 5 scored a total of 1511 votes, this year the top 5 scored 1845 votes. Again we would all agree the team has improved.
  20. Thats huge considering he missed a game and played with a broken finger for few more games. Great night for the little champ!
  21. Jay Clark Verified account ‏@ClarkyHeraldSun Max Gawn thanks Dean Bailey & Jim Stynes. Says Stynes is "the reason I'm playing footy today". ------------------- The serious side of our Maxy --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jay Clark Verified account ‏@ClarkyHeraldSun Gawn thanks list chiefs for giving Mark Jamar the flick "so they finally give me a go". Says he's now "palming it down their throats". ---------------------------- ...and Max the joker
  22. Copied this from Big Footy Round 21 updated. Max is clear by 25....but since it's possible we might have more than 2 games still to play, I can't call it. Huzzah.
  23. Thanks SF. Glad for Jesse to be doing well - clearly the coaches see his year vastly different than a lot of people on DL...
