  1. My comment was very tongue in cheek!! I think there are lots of permutations. Going right into fantasy land - various clubs need an ageing key forward: WCE, Geelong, Hawks, Sydney etc. Just about every club in the league would want Jessie. They must all be laughing their heads off at what Freo are doing! So, if Jessie was happy to live in Melbourne I'm sure deals could be done. But this is all fantasy, for this year at least. Next year, who knows!
  2. So they could low ball the Hogan trade with '...sorry, we don't have a top 10 pick...' and if we agree to their low ball trade or variation thereof, 5 minutes later turn around and accept pick 5 for Neale and keep it for themselves. ...and they traded out next year's 3rd round pick so they can say '...sorry, the rules forbid trading out a future 1st round pick and a later future pick...' and be unwilling to use the tools available that might get the future 1st round pick back into play. They are playing dirty pool!
  3. I hear GCS need a replacement forward...?
  4. Hawthorn know how to get a deal done! Hawthorn did not appear well placed to satisfy Port in a trade for the dual All Australian given its first pick in this year's NAB AFL Draft doesn't fall until No.15. However, it's understood Port inquired about Burton's availability and the Hawks are prepared to include him in the deal. Freo should take a leaf out of their book. Just get the deal done. No fanfare, no grandstanding, no fuss! As an aside - seems another deal symbolic of the new order: 'if player not committed, trade them out the year before they become FA's!' Clubs taking back some control.
  5. Yep, trade out one of their better GF players and get a higher 1st round pick. GCS looking for a top 5 pick because they thought we could get it. If we can't they look at the next best offer for May.
  6. Right now we have less currency than his other suitors. My point was that the Hogan deal being further delayed may have May starting to look elsewhere and his other suitors banging on his door!
  7. They would sell the farm to get May.
  8. But is it better than Collingwood's plan A? May was bound for the Pies just a few weeks ago. Reckon they see their chance to sneak in the side door and get him.
  9. So Freo have now thrown 3 players into limbo: Neale, Hogan, May. I wonder how long May will wait before he makes his next move: sign at GC or look elsewhere. Practically, its tough for him to keep hanging on. Eddie or Ned Guy probably picked up the phone to call him as soon as they saw the stupid Freo offer.
  10. Everyone very quiet on the Beams front... Maybe Lions have decided that now they have Neale, Beams isn't so important, will leave in a year or two anyway, so trade him out whilst there is interest and can get a good trade value. It might be a case of 'careful what you wish for' on Beams' part!
  11. True, but given the mess Freo are in this year from trading out 2018 picks last year and the state of their list, it would be almost negligent of the AFL to let Freo trade out their 2019 1st and 3rd.
  12. That means they won't be trading their 2019 1st round pick to us (or anyone else) as the Future Pick Trading rules prohibit the trading of future 1st and future later picks. Hopefully we get the Neale pick #5 and #11!! Otherwise the Hogan deal starts looking awful!!
  13. If Beams wants to reneg on his club and reneg on his emotional bnf committment to his teammates, he should do the right thing and accept a trade to a Melb club not insist on Collingwood. There are 10 clubs here. Wants to come home. OK, go where he and his club get a decent deal rather than one (Coll) which has little trade currency and could stuff the Lions. Lions should play hard ball and say 'we will trade you but to a club that gives us the best deal' as GCS have done with May. To do otherwise is very shallow and casts serious doubts on his claim to trade to come back for personal/family reasons.
  14. Yes, complicated. How to do the Lobb trade is a real dilemma for them and could also be a reason why the Hogan trade is stalling. Having reflected on the option I posed last night (Hogan for Freo 2018 pick #5 and a swap of 2019 first round picks) Freo could then give our 2019 1st round pick (15 to 18) to GWS for Lobb. Overall its a good deal for Freo. They get Hogan and Lobb for Neal and their 2019 1st round pick. They keep 2018 pick #6 (Neale pick) to take to this years draft. All clubs get on with life and get other trades done!
  15. The SA club swill be knocking Mahoney's door down to get it. Crows have picks 8, 13, 16 and 20. I reckon they would give up 8 with 13 or 16. We give 8 to GCS for May. Deal done!! Net result we keep 13 or 16 and pocket Freo's 1st round 2019 pick!! Happy days!!
  16. Yes, I have also been advocating for quite a while that #5 and a mid first round pick to get the job done. But I think that is a little different to what I proposed above, albeit the results have similarities. My suggestion of a swap of 2019 first round picks leaves Freo with something substantial (our 2019 1st pick) rather than just coughing up #5 and a mid 1st round.
  17. I would be surprised and that is the worst case scenario. An option (I'm being a bit creative): pick 5 2018 a swap of 2019 first round picks. Hopefully, in 2019 that converts to us receiving pick 5/6/7 and give up pick 17/18. ie a significant 2019 first round upgrade for us. To me that is a good compromise between Freo's 2019 1st round pick or a second round pick.
  18. A more informative and reasoned commentary by Michael Gleeson. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/fremantle-edging-closer-to-decision-on-hogan-20181010-p508x3.html Key points (paaphrasing): Full insight into navicular injury will not be available till after trade period ends Freo Board has met to discuss Hogan Talks are ongoing and progressing between the clubs Melbourne has shifted from its initial position of demanding two top-10 picks Discussions on a possible move of contracted Suns co-captain and full-back Steven May to Melbourne would not happen until a possible Hogan move was confirmed The Demons want the Dockers' first pick, but negotiations will then centre on what else would be required to complete a deal and whether it requires another first-round pick this year or next year, or a second-round selection. I don't think Mahoney has gone soft - just practical to get the deal done. Two top 10 picks always unlikely and just his opening ambit. My read is the deal will now happen.
  19. My bad. I got the two Toms mixed up. My post was referring to Tom Morris from Fox Footy who is a dee supporter. Deserved to get the boot from club podcast and clearly is no longer ITK.
  20. Just shows how far Browne Morris has been shut out by demon insiders. He now relies on other media outlets or guesses. Is a demon supporter and early this year he was doing the club podcast, then kept leaking stuff which is pretty low. Got the boot from the podcast. Clearly is now a persona non gratia! Edit: Referred to Tom Browne but my post was intended to be about Tom Morris
  21. May clearly favours us but that could be because we are more likely to get a trade done. His other suitors are equally well placed to play finals. The longer the Neale/Hogan thing drags on the greater the likelihood those clubs will ramp up their efforts for May. Eddie especially will go after May big time and the Pies list Manager Ned Guy was May's player manager until he joined the Pies last year. Time is ticking!
  22. Fabulous news. Very difficult decision. Look forward to him running around the G for the next 3 years!
  23. Nephew of Michael Long, related to Rioli family. Essendon also interested. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-10-10/dons-circle-contracted-nephew-long-of-club-great "The hard-nosed forward has impressed since being the No.25 pick in the 2016 NAB AFL Draft and only a broken right foot prevented him playing more than 10 games this year". "AFL.com.au understands the 21-year-old's preference is to stay at the Saints and he is contracted for next year, but his name has been raised in trade discussions this week". Part of the Kent trade, perhaps.
  24. Of course not and didn't mean to imply such! Just a starting point. Mahoney asked for high end picks. Can't bend over to 1 high pick and late 2nd round pick. #5 and a pick in the 8-14 range (2018 or 2019) +/- later pick trade, Freo favour.
  25. Crikey, Can't see us accepting #5 and #32 (a late second round pick). Has to be #5 and a mid to low 1st round 2018 or 2019!!
