Winner of Freo/Suns and they play soon. Would think it is Freo.

Fanastic. Desperate to win and that told in the end!

My original comment was in the context of how the CV-19 will change employment/work places and it may take a decade for it all to happen. I'm not a techie either. But I can see a situation where 5G (or its future replacements) is offered for 'work-from-home' clients via their employer subscription, not necessarily offering 5G for the whole population who stay on NBN or its future equivalent. Also, 'work-from-home' folk won't be using the service non-stop all day and very little at night. A far out idea is maybe for employers to pay for fibre to homes for those who will work from home. Whatever the technology I feel the workplace for many people won't be the same again. Not sure if this is good or bad...
-
Nope - 5G will be the 'go-to' technology. A bit expensive now but it won't matter if one's employer pays the cost. Will be much cheaper to the employer than providing full scale office facilities.

Jackson wasn't announced as a debutante so he probably won't play and be an emergency. Every chance the club has thoughtfully included him in the squad so he can get home and see his family and friends.

Agree no need for @faultydetto feel guilty. We need such people to help each other. The government is going after the hoarders and profiteers. AFP pursuing hoarders for the black market Dutton: "He said Australians who had photos or information such as vehicle registration numbers of mass hoarders should contact Crime Stoppers". There seems to be a criminal element behind the hoarding etc. Let's hope enough aussies report the profiteers. I certainly hope the AFP is looking at ebay! Its plain to see there.
-
Some insane profiteering going on: A 1 Lt bottle of Aqium hand sanitzer which retails for $20.00 (but very hard to get) just sold on ebay for $390 after 66 bids. I guess it is worth a lot more on the black market here or overseas. Hope the government catches the folks who are clearing stores then selling stuff on ebay or on the black market. A scum thing to do; be it medication, toilet paper, Aqium or whatever.

I don't think there is a ban on clubs inviting a couple of family members along. As guests, they could sit with club officials ie non-football staff.

AFLW: H&A Cancelled ... Straight to Finals
Lucifers Hero replied to Demonland's topic in AFLW Melbourne Demons
The cynic in me thinks that including the top 4 in each Conference (rather than the original finals structure of top 3) is to ensure Collingwood get into the finals! While they are on four wins like other teams in the top 3 of each Conference many AFLW teams have missed finals because of %'age. The AFL would have the finals over in two weeks if they stuck to the original finals structure. -
This happened regularly in the early GWS games when they scored a goal. The tv broadcasters may even put images over the empty seats to make it look more realistic. Agree with you, hope radio and tv juice things up a bit - as long as it isn't more of BT and Darcy etc. btw I believe BT is subject to the 14 day self isolation...

If the season goes ahead, it seems the two most likely scenarios are the top team in each conference (North and Freo) play the GF this weekend. Or, The top two teams of each conference play the top two of the other conference and the winners play in a GF next week. Sadly, we lost second spot by losing to Carlton so we won't feature.

The big risk is resurgence ie the 'second wave'. It looks to have peaked and when restrictions are lowered it comes back. One way or another it will be around for a while.

^^^ @Sir Why You LittleThat headline is scaremongering. Its that sort of stuff that induces panic. Did you notice this part of the article, I listed: "Boris Johnson's government is mounting the argument that the outbreak is now so far gone that it is actually desirable for people to get infected. And a lot of people – potentially up to 70 per cent of the country's population, or roughly 47 million". Even with a miniscule death rate that will be a lot of people dying. How a government can risk so many lives with what is a complete mystery is incomprehensible.
-
Thank God we aren't in the UK. Boris is going down the path of 'Herd Immunity': "Britain's approach has three core elements: enact social distancing measures much more slowly than other countries; shield at-risk groups like the elderly and sick from contact with the general population; and then let COVID-19 slowly sweep through everybody else. "Herd immunity describes a scenario where so many people become resistant to a disease – either through vaccinations or exposure – that it becomes much harder for the virus to spread through the rest of the population. In six months we will know whether that was a monumental and deadly mistake or a brave and effective decision to swim against the global tide". Source: herd-immunity-why-britain-is-actually-letting-the-coronavirus-spread Someone forgot to tell them there is no vaccine!! There are parts in that article that make distressing reading, especially isolating the elderly and vulnerable and not allowing visitors to nursing homes etc. No compassion or understanding how distressing months of isolation would be.

"More than 14,000 tests for the coronavirus have been carried out in the state, with 57 cases confirmed. Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton warned on Sunday authorities were starting to run short of testing swabs". https://www.theage.com.au/national/premier-calls-for-us-travel-ban-warns-of-more-coronavirus-disruptions-20200315-p54a73.html Folks need to be more aware of when to be tested. Below is a very good guide: Read more about how to tell the difference: https://www.businessinsider.com.au/coronavirus-symptoms-compared-to-flu-common-cold-and-allergies-2020-3?r=US&IR=T Please pass this on so that we don't clog up emergency wards and doctor's surgeries unnecessarily. We are going to need the testing swabs when things get bad.

Have a listen to his B&F speeches. imv, he peaks very well and will get better as he matures and gets a bit of coaching. Has many of the attributes to be a leader of our club.

Hypotheses I've read: The epicenter is in the industrial north which has one of the worst air pollution in the world It has a high ratio of smokers (as have many countries in Europe and Asia). It has a high proportion of 'elderly' people who are more susceptible; who could have been life long smokers. so more likely people have compromised respiratory systems and CV attacks the lungs. Also: They never found 'patient zero' so couldn't find the source making it impossible to track his/her contacts and control the spread. Were slow to lockdown the Lombardy epicenter, it wasn't properly enforced and locals left taking the virus with them. The first three partially explain why their death rate is so high. Another explanation is they don't have enough ICU beds and ventilators/respirators. Sadly, doctors are taking a 'wartime triage' approach; treat those that are likely to recover ie healthy and under 80 years of age (Some newspapers are saying the cut off age is 60?). Harrowing for all. Other European countries are tracking the same as Italy on a timeline so it wouldn't surprise if they also end up with a high CV cases.

Tell that to Riley Beveridge who wrote the article or to Max who answered the question the way he did. I was simply bringing it to DL's attention. I reckon it is worth fans knowing what our captain thinks.
-
Max will be captain for quite a few years so Lever has plenty of time to stake his claim, as do others.
-
Yes, according to Max skippers-earmark-their-successor Lever seems a natural and in the right age group for when Max vacates the chair. Not sure what JV7 makes of Max's prediction. It may have been a bit more diplomatic for Max to nominate 2-3 players who could step up. I would have suggested Lever, Oliver (both potentially elite with great footy minds and media speakers) and Viney as he may develop his talents and earn the job back.

I'm predicting a massive sociological change and workplace change. Around the world millions will be working from home. Teaching is on line eg my niece and her husband are expat teachers in Hong Kong. They have been teaching their primary and secondary students on-line since mid January and will do so until at least mid April. A real challenge as they have 3yo and 6yo boys at home to 'Home School' and playgrounds have been shut since mid-January. When this is over, many organisations will ask themselves: 'well this worked ok how can it work better' and continue employees working from home on a full time basis. Sociologists will study the impact of working at home, teaching on line and home schooling. Technology in all its forms will change and improve at an exponential rate to accommodate workplace and sociological changes. It may take a decade but the impact will be far reaching.

^^^ Last weeks results didn't go as I would have liked as the first 3 results didn't come in. At least we thrashed Eagles! Today Collingwood had a massive win over Brisbane (Conf A) placing them 3rd in our Conf B. We must beat Carlton tonight to keep us in the running. If we do we will be a game and %'age clear of them and Collingwood with two games to go. Would be very happy if Bulldogs have an upset win over Freo...

If games are in empty stadiums broadcasters will ramp up their fake cheering sound effects. Sadly there will be a lot more waffle from commentators. Very good reasons to press the 'mute' button or simultaneously listen to the radio. Broadcasters will probably have crowds projected into the background to avoid showing empty stadiums. I'm just hoping games go ahead. It will be a very long winter without footy. Also, imagine what Demonland will be like if there is nothing to talk about. It will be like 12 months of off-season, without training reports!

I have no doubt the anecdotes mean it 'escaped' by accident; certainly not released deliberately and I wasn't trying to imply such. Why would China do that in their own back yard? Totally agree the reaction is 'mindless insanity': approx 130,000 diagnosed cases worldwide, some 5,000 deaths worldwide. In a world population of nearly 8 billion. What are the odds? Yet world leaders are spooking their citizens and bringing their countries to a standstill risking crippling their economies and communities. I fear there will be a high price to pay for effectively shutting down activities.

There was chatter in some media that the virus 'escaped' from a bio-tech lab near the Wuhan wet market which has been blamed for starting the spread of the virus. Apparently, several of the people first diagnosed had not been near the market. One of them was a lab technician from the bio-tech facility. Make of that what you will.
