Demons Salary Cap Crunch
How often does a player leave for money? Why would a player leave now when there are finals on the horizon for quite a few years. Playing with their mates at the MCG. The time to cash is in when they have a few medals around their neck. A bit like Richmond and Hawks players have been in demand.

Kate Roffey, the unsung hero of our success
Qui! 'Tis moi! I changed the name and avatar straight after the game for a bit of fun for a day or two. When I went to change it back I learnt there can be only one change a month. The 'real' me will return!

Kate Roffey, the unsung hero of our success
Bartlett did a lot of good for our club. This thread is about how Roffey supported Goodwin, gave him belief and helped drive the values the club has espoused this year. Last year I recall Bartlett scorching Goodwin and the players publicly and by all accounts completely blindsided them. Deserved? Possibly. But that behaviour was the antithesis of building teamwork, support and to engender belief in people. Last year Bartlett put a real dent in our culture. Roffey, as outlined in the Offsiders, has repaired it.

Kate Roffey, the unsung hero of our success
Kate was asked when will Melbourne fans get to see the players and the cup. She said her dream would be to have an event at the G, replay the game and re-present the medals (hoping I heard that right). Then I saw this mcc-keen-to-welcome-dees-for-fans-celebration Kate's dream may not come to fruition and any event may depend on covid restrictions and MCC prep for the cricket season. The article reminded me of our DL angst over recent years of where would we go to celebrate a GF the day after? It won't be the day after but we have the answer: Our spiritual home: The MCG. Imagine the MCG full of only Demon supporters!

Kate Roffey, the unsung hero of our success
There are so many threads I could post this in but I feel it deserves its own It gives me goose bumps and brings tears to my eyes. I'm not sure which of the two expressions moves me the most. Both say so much. The caption 'Youre a good man, the players love you' is what Roffey said to Goodwin at the start of the season to help him build belief in himself. What beautiful, quite and inspiring words. Another thing she said to him was: 'Be yourself', which became Goodwin's mantra/advice to the players through the finals. Keep in mind that at the time externally, Goodwin's job was seen as being in jeopardy. If ever a man needed support and belief, that was it. Kate stepped up to the plate. If you would like to see the whole interview it is the 'Offisders'. The whole program is about our win. There are some good insights that haven't been discussed in the general media. The interview with Roffey starts @ 14.30 https://iview.abc.net.au/video/RS2008V037S00 This year our club has been built on 'Team', 'Support', 'Belief, and 'Selflessness'. And it starts right at the top with our President. My admiration for her and her wisdom has gone through the roof.

Thank you Mark "Choco" Williams!
I think it was more than the spray. There was a good interview last night with Goodwin on OTC. He made a lot of tactical changes after half time to get the contest back on our terms and take the heat out of Daniel and Bontempelli games. The changes took 15 minutes to kick in but once they did there was no stopping us.
- Thank you Mark "Choco" Williams!

POSTGAME: GRAND FINAL vs Western Bulldogs
Apologies for quoting myself. I just wanted to elaborate on the above. The Choco interview I was referring to is in this. what-chocco-said-to-trac? Choco's reflection on his 'whispering' to Petracca is in this article and starts @ 3.20. Love Choco's cheeky expression when asked the question. This is the fierce expression I'm referring to in the above post. We then kicked 3 goals in less than a minute. it was not long after Choco's 'whispering'. Thanks to @Chookfor posting it in the favourite GF thread.

Thank you. I have a curiosity question. May I ask why you prefer Lucifer's Hero to Premiers?

2021 List and Contract Details
Update for: Weideman contract to 2023, departure of Vandenberg, Lockhart, Nietschke and Jetta.😢 In a way this is a changing of the guard with the departure of two stalwarts, Jones and Jetta that go back to the dark years. A reporter mentioned at the weekend that Hibberd will be given a one year extension which is well deserved. Not sure what the final allowed list numbers will be for 2022 so the Current List numbers are based on what we had in 2021. Any errors please let me know and I will pick up with the next update.

The Next Captain
I've been saying Petracca all year. There are other worthy contenders but everything about him has oozed 'captain material' this year. Max has in the last month lifted his captaincy to elite levels. He had his break out, captain's game in round 23 and just kept building. But hey, there is no need to even think about the next captain for a few years yet. Let potential candidates bask in Gawn's leadership and learn from him.

POSTGAME: GRAND FINAL vs Western Bulldogs
I wondered whether they had started to relax a fraction after Bontempelli's 3rd goal. 19 pts up and the 3/4 time siren just 5-7 away. The Cup within reach. In those 5-7 minutes it was all 'Shock and Awe' and we piled on 7 goals. It broke them. As Beveridge said, in the blink of an eye it was all but over.

How do Bulldogs do it?
The umpires called them out to play on for short kicks. They were used to generally getting away with them. It surprised them, they couldn't control the tempo and weren't ready to play on. Thankfully the umps didn't give them too much leeway with throws etc.

Choco was rather coy about what he whispered to Petracca; it sounded a bit like he was appealing to Petracca's ego. It worked!! As you say he got the first clearance. Then he looked unstoppable. The next time we saw a close up of him (for a fraction of a second somewhere in the 2 Fritsch, Brown and Brayshaw goals sequence) he wore a fierce expression. He didn't look satisfied with that handful of goals. Then he went on a rampage. Just shows what having coaches on the bench can do. It is unlikely Choco's message coming thru headphones would have had the same affect.

I would need to check the replay but iirc after Bontempelli kicked his third goal in the 3rd qtr (and celebrated it as if the NSM and the premiership were his) I think he went to the bench. It coincided roughly with Petracca coming back on (Choco had whispered motivational words in his ear) so they were under prepared for the CB's that followed. Petracca and co did the rest.

Re their attempts to control the tempo. The umpires consistently applied the 15m rule which thwarted their attempts to control the tempo. When called to 'play-on' it stopped the bulldogs in their tracks, confusing them into a turnover and threw their ball movement out of whack. Played right into our hands. An indirect way of good umpiring helping us.

I'd put the move into the 'beg forgiveness rather than ask permission' category. Can't imagine the AFL would sully the fairytale with a public rap over the knuckles At worst it would be a fine. I would have given JJ a run and worry about the AFL

Nice gesture by Harmes trying to get JJ on the field for the last 5 minutes. harmes-sacrifice "Harmsey was trying to have a little cramp there just so I could get on at the end," Jordon said.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - LUKE JACKSON
Based on this Jackson isn't going 'Home' or anywhere else as some have feared. "I've thought about [my season] quite a bit. To be able to play more ruck this year and be able to help Maxy out has definitely helped my game. Hopefully we'll keep doing it as the seasons go on. I've just loved my time this year," Jackson said. he-s-unreal-how-father-figure-max-shaped-rising-star-s-game Wouldn't be surprised if he signs a contract extension during the off-season.

Can't find the video. Jonathan Brown was glowing of the courage Brayshaw showed in his diving mark. Brown was one of the most courageous to don footy boots. He could pay no greater compliment than praise courage. Helps explain why his teammates voted him the 'most courageous'

What a wonderful post. A moving tribute to so many. A credit to you, 'Layzie'. 🥂 Thank you for the lovely words about myself: @Premiers Please never ever change, I hope your name is the only thing you change come to think of it. I have so much respect for you on these boards and think you offer a hell of a lot. We love you, that's all I have to say right there. I will change my name back to 'Lucifer's Hero' but only allowed one change a month so 'Premiers' will have to stay a while. Oh, and Jayden will be back as my avatar.
