System vs Talent: What makes Melbourne so good?
That is exactly why I didn't start the video straight away!

2022 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Eagles would do very well if they trade their #1 or #2 pick for two top 10 picks and upgrade some later picks for a late 1st round pick and aim for some combo of Hewett, Gilbey, Busslinger and Broadbent all from WA. That will get their rebuild off to a decent start and save them the trouble and trade cost of trading WA talent back from interstate at a later date. iirc most of their 2021 draft choices were from WA.

Glad I read the comments before listening to the audio! Saved me from enduring 3 of my least favourite commentators.

TEAMS: Rd 11 vs Fremantle
Quite right, rules for late withdrawl are the same for all 22. And there is no particular significance to being on the bench rather than the starting 18. My musing was about both McDonald and Petty being hampered last week and played less than their usual game time. Petty more so than McDonald. Then having both Tomlinson and Weideman in the emergencies made me wonder if one or both might play. Having said that our policy is players play through 'niggles'/soreness so my throw away line about 'maybe a late change' was just an idle thought.

TEAMS: Rd 11 vs Fremantle
Unfortunately, I think the ship has sailed for Baker. HIs best year was 9 games in 2019 when we had a massive injury list. 15 games in 4.5 years isn't a great record, through no fault of his. Others have gone past him and with recent draftees we now have better depth than we had in recent years.

TEAMS: Rd 11 vs Fremantle
I wondered the same thing. He looked ok in the training video but it was only a few seconds. Also wondered if Petty will start. iirc he had some treatment on the bench last week and played only 82% game time which is really low for our defenders. Also not in the starting 18. Maybe a rare late change coming up.

2022 Tickets Thread
GA tickets just turn up in my MFC Mobile App. Listed as a separate item to my usual ticket. Each ticket then has its own barcode. Not sure if they are the same as guest tickets you are asking about. It seems to be just when we play interstate teams and they don't expect much of a crowd.

What They Are Saying at Cockburn Central
A bit of bf focus on the game: I'm breaking out in sweats knowing what's going to happen in that Thursday team. I'm really hoping it's not a blood bath but just heard JLo on the Radio saying some of the boys are low in confidence at the moment If Langdon plays, his ribs should be tested first time he goes for a mark above his head. Melbourne by 35 points. I'm already prepared mentally. The fact that Goodwin has felt the need to manufacture some motivation for the Dee's says he's (somewhat) worried about them struggling in that dept. We've got far too many softish players Let's back them in and I think we can win in the dry. Freo by 15 points. If it stays dry, not sure we have enough firepower to outscore the Dees, but I guess we'll see....... Oh God I can't believe Goodwin is talking up this game. That their players have been looking forward to it. Without our one and only genuinely classy player forward of centre in Switta this will be over by quarter time. We'll be lucky to kick more than 3 goals for the match against their defence. Good test for our defence though to see if they can get their mojo back on big ground. Keep them under 100 would be something. Not Dees Game related but worth including: Ginnavin is a graduate from the Selwood acadamy of ducking for free kicks. The combination of ducker and show pony is nauseous. Building, creating & sustaining a culture sure can be hard work for the fans. My favourite: You almost want them (Demons) to win the tap, so they stream forward, we win the turn over and expose them out the back... ...yeah that's not gonna happen - it will be more like they win the tap, stream forward, we miss the tackle and then they kick a goal.

CHANGES: Rd 11 vs Fremantle
JKH got off lightly compared to a few other players. I won't mention them for fear of setting off a retro whipping-boy frenzy. The red and blue is sacrosanct imv. Wear it and the player should be respected.

AFL Mid-Season Draft 2022
Who are the other candidates? Not Smith - he is listed as 7 - 9 weeks. No sign of Hbbered retiring... We don't have any legit LTI.

AFL Mid-Season Draft 2022
^^^ We don't have a list spot. The only likely candidate ito create a list spot s Howes but I reckon the club would want to get a few more games into him at the back end of the season and some finals experience if Casey make it. If there is a player in the MSD that we want and who has previously played AFL/nominated for the NAB draft we can select him in the supplementary selection period later in the year as an 'A' Rookie.

Blues the Dee-stroyers?
With Freo falling away a bit I reckon spots 3-6 will be very close and Carlton will fall into that range. But those spots won't be decided for quite a while as 46 of the top 8's remaining 96 games are where they play each other. So lots of 8-pt games to mess with spots 3-8 on the ladder order; I have Dees and LIons locked in top 2. Laughable that commentators say we got the umpiring benefit vs North. We got more frees because they played rough and were penalised altho not often enough for off-the-ball strikes.

CHANGES: Rd 11 vs Fremantle
Given that Goodwin said Langdon will be given right up to the game to be deemed ok, reckon he will be named in the selected team even if he is half a chance. Then we wait.

The difficulty I have with the V emoji is that it isn't clear whether they object to my comment or to a quote I have included in the post. I find it rather disconcerting at times.

AFLW List Changes 2022
@Dees_In_October Would like your thoughts on the rules around losing players to the new teams: Each player in the competition has been assigned a points value which is calculated based on age, payment tier, career games and any awards they might have won. To keep their first round draft pick for the upcoming NAB AFLW Draft, existing clubs must lose a total of 28 points worth of players'. That looks quite Draconian. Losing a first round pick is very harsh, especially if the target is missed because players don't want to be traded. Other rules are listed in this article: how-many-players-can-each-club-lose-expansion-rules-explained Any idea what players we are at risk of losing or would be ok letting go?

Northern Territory Team
Relocate GCS to Darwin. They have two games there, it is their Academy zone.

POSTGAME: Rd 10 vs North Melbourne
Quite poetic, Layzie! Goodwin has subtly fed that narrative every chance he gets in press conf: "We don't look to play perfect football, we wear teams down and know opportunities will open up". Delivered in his casual and calm style. That message is now in the heads of other coaches most of whom know that even their very best probably isn't good enough. That the team deliver on Goodwin's 'promise' creates the same doubt with opp players. Mind-games don't need to wait for September!

NON-MFC: Round 10, 2022
Beveridge has walked back his comments about Naughton's lack of frees last week: "... the Bulldogs had assessed the vision from the weekend and would not be taking the issue any further". He had already made his point but don't think he did himself any favours in the credibility stakes. Not a good year for him so far.

Blues the Dee-stroyers?
This may sound silly but I hope we don't. Its quite a 'monkey on the back'. Would rather the said monkey was deposed before the finals. Last year we lost a couple either side of the bye. Maybe a couple of inconsequential losses after the bye this year...?

Kangaroos Hopping Mad after Triple Walk Out
I meant when the Tassie team travels to interstate venues. I wasn't at all suggesting Tassie fans don't travel. But will they travel in sufficient numbers to quarter or half fill stadiums every other week and make a game financially viable? Will the interstate fans go and watch those games? I don't know. Current experience, with even the larger more successful interstate clubs with well heeled fans eg Crows and Eagles, says probably not. Sydney and Brisbane rely on their historical Vic fan base to attend Vic games. Even then the numbers aren't great. AFL crowds are at the lowest level since 1996. crowds-slump-to-lowest-levels-in-26-years for which there are a multitude of reasons. We have 60,000 members and there are various threads lamenting the lack of fan attendance at games. We don't go to Geelong because they won't give us any seats. Anyway, I loved your idea. Just trying to find a middle road that might get the OK from other clubs needed to for a Tassie liscence. I'll bow out of the discussion now.

Kangaroos Hopping Mad after Triple Walk Out
I have a lot of support for your cause. Just trying to figure out ways to make it work. A Tassie team really wouldn't want to play a dozen interstate teams at empty venues would it, forever? It would never get off the AFL financial drip feed and that is what worries other clubs. Just for the record, South Melbourne were The Bloods from 1874 to 1933. Roos resurrected it as part of 'embracing their history', welcomed Bobby Skilton and other ex players back into the fold etc.

Kangaroos Hopping Mad after Triple Walk Out
I think their is some merit in keeping a link to North in Tassie. Fitzroy and South Melb fans have to some extent come back to the fold especially after the Lions and Swans won some Premierships. They came out in big numbers. Lions still wear the old 'Roy jumper for Vic games. There is quite a bit of history and good things to harness from North. A bit like the Swans reflecting on their history and taking on 'The Bloods' culture. Keeping the colours and a reworded club song like the northern clubs will go a long way to keeping those fans on side and eventually may come back to the fold. Otherwise a totally new Tassie team could be a bit souless and be fanless outside of Tassie. More empty stadiums around the country. It all depends on how the AFL sold it to Tassie and to some extent to North.

Blues the Dee-stroyers?
Carlton are yet to play a team with a strong defence at the time they played. We should get a read on this vs Coll this week who have Moore, Howe, Maynard, Noble and Quaynor. Their intercepts and rebounds will test the Blues' midfield's ability to run both ways and tire them out in the process. The Blues defence will then be under pressure. I don't think they stack up too well and Weitering can't do it all. Given the Blues game pattern the trick to beating them is stop their scoring in the first half. Run over them in the second half. They will fold! Will be good to watch the game tactics. Voss vs McCrae.

What They Are Saying at Cockburn Central
Very true! Bf is now 13 pages and the chat is till quite introspective. But I have learnt one nickname: Switta! They are understandably preoccupied with his suspension and with fairly moderate reactions. Soon they will wake up and realise they play the top 2 teams in the next two weeks and lose those and their top 2 and maybe their top 4 chances are over.
