  1. It will speed up the process at other clubs in 1) sacking their current coach 2) wanting to court Clarkson or Buckley or another highly rated coach. FOMO will set in. The most recent example was last year when Buckley was sacked, quickly followed by Teague being sacked. Then much courting by both clubs of Clarkson, Lyon et al and when Coll wanted to interview Mitchell he goes to the club and they sack Clarkson. There are a few more coaches in the gun this year or who may want to move and will cause more dominoes to fall.
  2. Its time for the popcorn! Truly, I have no idea. Lewis said last night Simpson should be thinking about whether he wants to go thru a rebuild after 10 years at the club. He took over at WCE when they were in contention. A newbie coach there now would be torn to shreds from day 1 by their fans and the WA media. A scary thought. David King put up a chart showing that newbie coaches fail with bottom of the ladder re-build clubs. He listed many many names and found only a couple that didn't: Clarkson and maybe another that I don't recall. So, time for the popcorn!
  3. I could very reluctantly come to terms to losing Gus as long as it wasn't to Geelong or Essendon. At least if he left, we could match an offer and force a trade because the best AFL comp pick we will get is in the high teens.
  4. Don Pyke could be added to the first group; took Crows to a GF and left due to politics. And add highly touted Kingsley to the second group. And Simpson could be coaxed out of WCE, not necessarily for the Giants role but for the dominoes that will follow. It is quite competitive so Yze won't find it easy getting a senior gig. Edit: Just saw this on AFL website on newbie coaches: "Jaymie Graham at Fremantle (and previously West Coast) is strongly regarded, Ash Hansen at the Blues and previously the Bulldogs has built a good resume and Adem Yze (at Melbourne and before that, under Clarkson at the Hawks) has developed his credentials, while Andrew McQualter and Adam Kingsley at Richmond, and Daniel Giansiracusa at Essendon are among the other assistants who have been in the running for senior gigs".
  5. Thank goodness they didn't put Hird in charge!!
  6. This is the whole interview. First half MND, second half the Dees and Gus: He trained the whole preseason for the wing. As we know he went down back when Salem was injured. What happens to Gus when Salem returns might be significant in his decision. Meanwhile, love his focus on the team and getting better at the job he has been given.
  7. st-kilda-to-talk-with-power-free-agent-amon "Sources familiar with Amon’s situation said that he would talk to the Saints, while Hawthorn and reigning premiers Melbourne are also among the clubs to have registered an interest in him. It is unclear how the Demons could possibly accommodate Amon, however, given their imminent salary cap squeeze and the fact that they wish to re-sign star young ruckman/forward Luke Jackson and free agent gun Angus Brayshaw." Reading that it looks like Saints are the front runners. He is an Unrestricted Free Agent which means Port cannot match an offer as he is not one of their top 25% paid players..
  8. This should please MCC members: mcc-returns-to-traditional-ticketing-after-considering-member-feedback and they will revert to glass instead of plastic and allow congregating in the bars.
  9. Still no game 'preview' thread on their flying high site. No interest? Bigfooty: Latest posts show widespread disinterest in attending and can't even give tickets away. A bit of humour showing through! I’m attending with my demons supporting father. Existence is pain. I've thought long and hard about how we can compete against Melbourne this week. Normally I assume that the Eagles powers that be know what they are doing but that apparently isn't true...My comment: Poster then gives a role by role plan which is a bit long winded and a bit boring to post here. Do we get to chain the opposition full back to our full forward so he's trapped in the goal square too? Interested to see how many turned up. I got the ITW email about tickets.... straight in the trash bin How funny is it when you’re at the ground and Karl directs your attention to the big screen at the start of the 2nd quarter where the animated giant Eagle stomps on the opposition jumper and we’ve got 0.1 on the board and the games already over. Really pumps everyone up... ...Or when they play Foo fighters The Pretender at 3QT and real off all the highlights from the goals we've scored, and we've only scored one.... so they just show replays of guys taking a chest mark instead. My favourite: I've got corporate hospitality tickets I can't get rid of for love nor money at the moment. I am going to have to drink quite a bit to get value out of the tickets this week
  10. Buddy did. Last game for Hawks was his second premiership. Could have won two more had he stayed. Some 'lesser lights' at Richmond did similar. So not a far fetched possibility that Gus or others might. Edit: πŸ™„Note to self: read the whole thread before posting as others have mentioned the same.
  11. full-free-agents-list Restricted (ie we can match a bid and negotiate. If not we take the AFL comp pick they decide) Angus Brayshaw Unrestricted (ie we cannot match a bid and take the AFL comp pick they decide. Mitch Brown* Majak Daw* Jayden Hunt *Previously delisted
  12. I really felt sorry for him with that bump. A bit like I did in the GF when he leapt over Hibberd and his head hit the post and then it hit the ground when he fell to earth. I was worried for him having just come out of concussion protocols. While I don't like the way he (or anyone) plays for frees it is never good to see someone hurt. He is such a courageous kid. Hope he is back playing soon.
  13. My favourite is still from The Age: "The Demons then just played out time, always keeping the margin above 20 points after strangling their opposition like a python and putting the game to sleep".
  14. On who/what? He helped bring down Eddie. Buckley is no longer there. CFC discredited and still in the doldrums. Not sure there is much more he can do that will damage them further. Sue them? Then do it and be done with it. Buckley would be well served to ignore the provocations and not respond. No winners on social media t-t for tat posts.
  15. Oh, I wasn't at all suggesting we go after him or doing a player swap. On the contrary. Whenever he goes I reckon trading him out and replacing him will be separate deals involving separate clubs.
  16. GWS don't have small forwards and when Hill wanted to move last year they scrambled to get a replacement and looked at Breust who wouldn't go. They will be equally desperate to replace Hill this time round. It is unlikely they will be able to swap a small fwd for a small fwd so are more likely to take a pick for Hill and trade one in from another club. Just a thought as we have a few 'surplus' small forwards who are all showing some talent and have had very good development.
  17. My first reaction was who will GWS get as a replacement. We have a number of small forwards waiting in the wings: Bedford, Chandler, Laurie. All three have been medisub or emergencies but still on the cusp as depth. Will one be willing to go to GWS to get more games? I can't see them waiting in the wings for years and I can't see us giving up Pickett or Spargo.
  18. From @Demonland's post above: "In other positive news for the Dees, defender Christian Salem, who has been sidelined since Round 1, will return to training this week and will look to be available for selection in the next fortnight". Great news! Trains this week and next. Has a run at Casey the next weekend when seniors play the Roos. Then cherry ripe for the run up to the bye: Freo, Swans, Pies. He could come straight back into the seniors but I don't think there is a need to rush so get him ready for the Freo game.
  19. Elliot Yeo was due to play this week after being out with concussion. He has now gone into covid protocol so won't be available.
  20. True but he was still a 'mature body' to help the kids and gave us some leadership before the other 3 arrived.
  21. I'll add handsome with an impish grin to his qualities.☺️
  22. Ooops! Spelling error. Should be Byrnes (Shannon). Played 23 games for us 2013-2014. Until this year our development coach then poached by Geelong.
  23. Well, 2 of last year's top 4 are virtually out of the race. The 4th was the mighty dees. That 4 teams have fallen out of last year's top 8 has created a heap of anomalies in the draw. It has made ours harder, Geelong's easier and given the Blues a dream run. Tigers haven't done too badly either. Games they have for the rest of the season: Port x 2, Hawks x 2, Bombers, x 2, Eagles x1, North x 1, GCS x 1. On that they could easily sneak into top 4. But, it is what it is. The first few weeks of he finals will sort it out.
  24. North could do with a the equivalent of Cross, Burns, Vince, Lewis to help Ziebell set standards off field, protect the kids on field, leadership on field and help with their development. Otherwise their kids will flounder and talent wasted like ours before the Jackson/Roos era. Cross, Vince, Burns and Lewis were a key, often underrated part of our road to the Holy Grail.
  25. I don't like our players playing for frees. I don't like any player playing for frees. But when there are other teams who have made it an art form (Geelong/Bulldogs etc) and a player proclaims it to be a special 'skill' I am happy for our guys to try one on every now and then. Until umpires universally and consistently punish it then it won't go away.
