If our 1991 team, which finished top 4 and produced the Brownlow Medallist, was crap, what on earth is our current side?
-
Not even a little one? A Hiace maybe?

Nice. You posted this at 1.06am today. By 'tomorrow', do you mean 'Sunday tomorrow' or 'Monday tomorrow? Just checking if I need to sit on Demonland refreshing this page for 12 hours straight today. Thanks in advance.

Flop me. If there is one thing that doesn't need fixing in the AFL at the moment, it's the finals system. The current system rewards perfectly each team based on where they finish.

I haven't seen enough of Mitchell to offer an accurate trade proposal, but if we want to eventually trump Carlton, pick 3 (or 2) would almost certainly have to be involved. Would you soften your stance if it was Mitchell and pick 20 for picks 3 and 60 for example?

Hawthorn. Could not draft a star if they were hit in the face with a planetary orb.

Preliminary final weekend is usually awesome, but someone needs to make sure North doesn't make it again. At 3/4 time in in their last three prelims, they've trailed by 52 tonight, 78 against Port in 2007, and 58 against us in 2000. Oh what a night.

Thanks. After your post I had a look here: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-09-19/ryder-quits-bombers Some of the key passages concerning this: "RUCKMAN Patrick Ryder has quit Essendon and requested a trade to a new club. The important ruckman could attempt leave the Bombers on the grounds they seriously breached their duty of care to him through the supplements scandal of 2011-12. That clause could also be used to convince the Bombers to orchestrate a trade. Essendon would receive no compensation for losing Ryder under the new rule, which was pushed by the AFLPA and introduced as a result of the club's breaches." So he's requested a trade, but you and 3165 look to be right - he could go for nothing. I'd expect Essendon to finalise a trade, but hopefully their reputation as trading Scrooges comes back to bite them and they lose him for nothing. Regardless, I wouldn't touch him, or any of his teammates with the possibility of a two year ban, with a ten foot pole.

As much as I usually like to see a contest in neutral finals, I hope Sydney run away with this and get through injury free. I font want to see Hawthorn equalling our premiership tally.
-
That hasn't been confirmed yet though as far as I know.
-
We'd have to give up 2 or 3 to get him. I'd be very, very cautious about trading for any Essendon player involved in the ASADA stuff, and especially so if we were giving up something huge like a top 3 pick.
-
Whatever criticisms you may have, I don't know that 12 months of research can constitute a "hastily made" decision.
-
If we throw in Strauss, maybe he, Blease and Tapscott will add up to Carlton's first round pick?! I'll settle for those three and our fifth round pick for their fourth rounder.

Maybe get a second opinion on that though. I'm frequently wrong about this stuff. -

Father-son bidding occurs immediately prior to the trade period, so if we have committed to use our original third round pick on Stretch, then we can't trade it. -

The club put a few pics up on twitter. It looks great, and nice to see the red and blue worked into the uniform. -
Thanks. I hope by "indication" its a case of "you will definitely receive pick 3".

According to the pinned thread (I pasted these few dates below), the second week is also the time free agency ends. From memory, they don't hand out compensation until the free agency deadline. Is this still the case? In which case, we wouldn't know for certain that we had pick 3 coming in. Friday October 3 - NAB AFL restricted free agency offer and unrestricted free agency period begins Friday October 3, by 2pm - NAB AFL father/son bidding nominations; Academy bidding nominations lodged with AFL Monday October 6, 10am - Father/son and Academy players bidding meeting; NAB AFL Trade Period begins Monday October 13, at 5pm - Close of NAB AFL restricted free Agency offer and unrestricted free agency period Thursday October 16 - NAB AFL restricted free agency matching offer three-day period ends Friday October 17, at 2pm - NAB AFL Trade Period closes

Thanks for pointing out my folly. In this case, proceed!

I can only imagine how peed off we'd all be if someone was offering Nathan Jones big biscuits when he still had a year to run on his contract.
-
A least if we picked him some old Collingwood supporter would be able to dust the cobwebs off their old 'Moore Filth' banner.
-
That's not what we are seeing in free agency. Sure, some like Franklin have chased the coin, but we are seeing plenty of players leave chasing success over money. And why wouldn't I believe in Santa?
-
Mitch Clark booed as the crowd sees a big screen shot of him sitting in the stands.

Really? I guess I forgot how easy it's been for us to attract big name talent. Like it or not, players have to agree to a trade. If Dangerfield didn't want to play for Melbourne, it wouldn't matter if we offered Adelaide all our draft picks and our best five players.
