  1. Not so new but clearly foolishly idealistic. In life generally for about a half a century plus. If not optimistic what do you do?
  2. And what about the abandonment of the elegant "prior to" in favor of the base "ahead of". The wold is crumbling before us.
  3. And reading my previous post I suspect the next one will infer that I an clearly too delicate for this world and should scurry off to say hello to the fairies at the bottom of the garden. Garbage!!! It is possible to focus upon argument without personal attack. Too much on this site is about battles between posters who wait to pounce. Take it to twitter and leave the MFC alone. I love the well reasoned threads and then a personal dispute dispute highjacks a thread as I have done in a minor way here. We are all here because of a defining common interest. We love the Melbourne Football Club. Why then within that (sadly limited) envelope must there be so much vitriol?
  4. Indeed but it has a particularly malignant connotation. All I am suggesting is that when you post a perfectly reasonable point you should be free of this label simply because someone without an intelligent response should be able to defer to mindless abuse. The whole site would be improved by the elimination of abuse. Wind ups are amusing, puns are great as are obscure tangents but abuse is boring, tiresome and offensive.
  5. Sorry? Not understanding what you are saying. Be kind to us older folk.
  6. Dunny dropping the knees into Viney - not leadership material. Vince and Cross only one year at the club. Really like Dawes. In touch or not always 100% effort. Remember him chasing a back up to the wing and, on the way back, having words with all the MFC players they had run past and who had spectated. Great attitude and willing to have a say.
  7. Refer again to page 26 of today's Age where the incident I was referring to is clearly defined as trolling. A woman named Brenda Leyland sent at times 50 abusive tweets a day to the parents of Madeleine McCann whose daughter disappeared whilst they were on holiday in Spain asserting that they were responsible. That out there in the real world is what constitutes a troll. There is a nut case I suggest. I objected to being similarly labelled. Perfectly reasonable I would respectfully argue.
  8. The Coodabeen's love this stuff. Write very funny songs about it and see it as an expression of the essence of inclusive participation Merely pointing out my understanding of the term and, therefore, my objection to being referred to as such given that was in no way my intent. All done and thanks for your input.
  9. I read no whinging or complaining in the article just an account of his experience and observations and a well written one at that. The footballers life is a peculiar one. Just look at all the comments they cop here. I read stuff and I really hope our players have nothing to do with this site. Any one of us could write of our personal experience and it would include sacrifice and reward bur rarely would it include intense public scrutiny and judgement, potentially crippling physical demands and such a short and uncertain professional time span. You are never more than a second away from an injury that could destroy your career. We have all seen the stretcher leave the ground and wondered just what the outcome will be. I am not arguing that they deserve sympathy but a little empathy would not be inappropriate.
  10. Good topic if the lack of essays is any criteria. Just hate Carlton. Can justify it but it would take an essay. So in reality the most significant win of the coming season has to be over Hawthorn. At the MCG and we will all be there (except for those that can't).
  11. Carlton have the born to rule mentality. Have had extraordinary difficulty moving from we can buy anyone good someone else develops to spotting and developing talent. We have had similar development difficulties but our problem has been incompetence whilst theirs has been delusion (with a fair degree of incompetence due to inability to adjust to spending restrictions). Rather be where we are. This is a team we can knock off. Others?
  12. Carlton are the fascist bully boys of the AFL and much punished for that mindset (but not for their tanking - the Kreuser Cup) but was this thread not about MFC's bright future?
  13. It is yet to be seen if Ollie can keep doing it. Hope he can (except against us). Port were the highlight of last season and if only they could have beaten Hawthorn. May well have lost the GF but no strutting about by the Pee & Poos.
  14. Was glad to see him go, didn't want him back but he has done a lot of growing up in recent times. Good luck to him.
  15. You are quite possibly correct. Just objected being labelled that way for making a reasonable point. Cheers.
  16. Those questions reflect a perception held by some in the football community of MFC and some players. It is exactly the sort of questions Roos would want so he can have a go at proving those perceptions wrong. In the end on field actions will hopefully make these types of questions redundant.
  17. See troll (verb) No 1 definition above. Winding someone up is very different to abusive and belittling verbal assaults. And I got my understanding from wide main stream media use. This is the only forum I participate in and I was not happy to be called a troll for pointing out, in a relevant thread, that all clubs, including our own, have idiot supporters and whilst stereotyping may be fun it does not necessarily reflect reality. A reasonable point I thought and not worthy of abuse. If it means something different here then that difference has clearly escaped me but I refer again to Daisycutter's definition above.
  18. Not a cliche but calling a poster a troll is particularly offensive. A troll is someone like a sad person who feels the need to send endless messages to the parents of an abducted child suggesting they are responsible. Even at its most pathetic the exchanges here are juvenile and abusive (and boring) but not trolling. Don't use it.
  19. He looks like a bloke you wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of. Jackson+ Roos = confidence for the first time in a long time.
  20. Or including it was the point. We rely too heavily for our sense of self upon what was done by those who are now dead or old men. Time to make a new history for what was once a great club. I think recent developments give us cause for optmism.
  21. Sharing facilities at the "Not Round Ground" is no problem as far as I can see. State of the art as they say. The MCG will always be unavailable as it is the prime asset of a business enterprise. Whenever I am at Gosch's I cannot but be concerned that our players are training in the pollution of one of the busiest traffic intersections in the city. And I hate every thing about pokies except the income. Conflicted!
