Training reports from the club.
-
Second AFL club, 26 yo and only 20 games came to the club underdone for pre season. May tell some of the story as well. I will give you still developing with Matt Jones as a mature ager first year in the system but Pedesen needs to get a wriggle on.

6. Garland 5. Dunn 4. Frawley 3. N.Jones 2. M.Jones 1. Tapscott

I'm not sure about this one either 'Daz'. ...but the mystery is 'what is affecting it'.

For all the knocking of Jamar, and interesting comment was made by Simon Black last week when in the commentary box. He said Jamar was a good player, really difficult to pick as he was one of the few ruckman who could tap the ball 360degrees. Maybe he is a bit better than some give him credit for.

This is why we can't play him as a permanent forward as so many have called for, he needs to rotate up the ground. This happened later in the game but we had run him out of form by then. I don't think he was our worst though, bit harsh that 'Nasher'.

2 really interesting things today that are linked to the post. Can't remember who had the ball about 55 out from goal I think in the first quarter but Dunn was standing next to him calling for a handball. Now we know Dunn can get the journey but he was not moving and calling for the ball with Carlton players around him. It wasn't given off, one of the better decisions of the day. However surely Lydnen knows he should be moving to take the ball, that's what he did at Casey last week. It's not knocking him, he had a good game today I thought but it's how most of our players are. There is little movement and most handball is a result of pressure, it's why we have so many less disposals than our opponents. The second thing was again I think in the last in Carlton's attacking 50, Byrnes had the ball and was under pressure, he could have easily given a blind handball or one to a statue but held up and took the tackle. By not releasing the ball he forced a 50/50 ball up rather than a hit and hope handball. This is where his training at Geelong and experience can count, he didn't have a great game but if he can get more of our guys to think and be prepared to take the hit then he will add value. The turnovers are killing us. Message to Tommy Mc, find out what Corey Enright did to get his kicking action and ability fixed and do it otherwise you have a very limited to no future in the game. I know you have a few mates but you are the one with the biggest potential upside.

Spent most of his time forward to day. Still not a good return though. Definitely something not right here, the club is doing him no favours if playing him with injury.
-
I will take the word of Cameron Ling who said he wasn't in his first 2 years. Ling would have a better idea because he played against him. Both he and Watson think something is wrong and I'm going with them on this, something is clearly wrong.
-
The way he went down looks like a collarbone to me.
-
I reckon Chip is going well, hasn't had anything kicked on him and stating to get some run back....anyway..
-
You've got to be kidding, watching his debut would have made a visit to the 'G' worthwhile. Well let's hope we can put in a fair effort and Howe takes mark of the year.
-
Hudson has done exactly what he was brought in to do, fill the space left if Jolly is injured. He did ok and has worked and will if needed in the future. ...but I get your point about what was available and in that case Byrnes and Dawes would have been enough to bring leadership and experience, Magner upgraded and someone like a Hannath.

I love to watch Geelong play, Stevie J makes me laugh to the point of tears with some of the things he does. In a pure football sense they play the way the game is meant to be played and work hard for each other...but don't think for a minute that there is not a wealth of talent and class at the Cats. Do I love watching Geelong because the muppetts on 7 tell me they are good. No, read my other posts on this. This Saturday night crew on 7 is a disgrace and brings the game into disrepute they make me laugh at their absurd attempts at commentary and I'm left speechless by their lack of understanding of the game at times. I wish Darcy would shut up about the Geelong dynasty, we can see for ourselves. It won't go on for ever but they have done a better job than any other club in the modern era of the draft to stay at the top of there game.

Sign Jesse Hogan up for 5 years (Suns and Jack Martin)
rjay replied to What's topic in Melbourne Demons
We can offer it to him if we like, however if I was him I would hold off and see where the club is heading. At the moment any reasonable management would not advise him to sign. Next season when the future of the club and FD is more certain would be the time, 3 or 5 we should get an extension as a sign of faith that he has a future with a club heading in the right direction. -
Rash changes no, status quo no. There will be a lot of very well considered changes over the next 6 months.

As a few posters have pointed out we could have upgraded Magner and picked up Hannath. Whether or not they were the right choices who knows but your question has been answered. On the salary cap you can't just throw out a line about Collingwood not picking up Goddard without taking it into account. Byrnes yes, but to add Roden, Gillies and Pederson is where the mistake was made. Moved on some NQR's and replaced them with more at best.

Was a lot to do with Maric getting injured, with Vickery out of the game as well he couldn't get a break and had no power to get off the ground or even hold his ground and the Cats just blew em away after that. He's not too smart is our Ivan and nor are the Tiges or our favourite commentator Luke Darcy. When Harry Taylor ran him down the ground in the 2nd quarter the Mullett was supposed to be resting at FF, Darcy thought it was great that he then started taking off the other way and making Harry chase him. Call me stupid but he was supposed to be getting a break and trying to stretch the Cats defence, one of his team mates should have taken Harry and let Ivan hang back around the centre for the relief kick, get his break and get back into the ruck.

You don't create born leaders they are born. Geelong started the process from the top down; Frank Costa had a vision, he went and got the best CEO in the land Brian Cook and they rebuilt the club. Their recruiting has been excellent but they've also had a bit of a kick along with father son picks in Scarlett, Ablett and Hawkins, not a bad free kick. We can be as patient as many here would like but until we get the right people running the club we will not be rebuilding any culture and we are not going anywhere. The next 6 months is the most important for this club in living memory, we have a chance of clearing the decks and building for the future or of existing off past glories and dying a long slow death.

With the disappointment of our club at least I can get some joy from football watching the GFC play, they are just so good. My partner is a Geelong girl and I spend a fair bit of time down there and the club is the pride of the town. Good on them.

A few points here 'Al'. On Goddard, the Pies didn't have the salary cap space to have a go at him. Cloke took up a big wack of that and coming on the back of Pendles & Swan they were sellers rather than buyers. They are in a different position to us in that they are a premiership chance, Hudson is insurance for Jolly whilst they wait for Witts and Grundy. On last nights form Witts looked pretty good and maybe further advanced than they thought. Russell was part of the plan to get O'Brien out of the back half and up on to a wing. He, Russell had a bad one last week and got dropped. If you are looking to pick up players to turn careers around then you should be looking at 22-24yo who have shown they can play but are struggling to make it in really good sides. You can break them free with opportunity and a bit of cash. This is more the Sydney model with Kennedy, McGlinn, Mumford, Richards and the like. We picked up a few past their use by dates and a couple of others who couldn't get a game at their previous clubs because they weren't good enough. If the guys we picked up were for depth then with almost a full list in round one you need to ask why 4 depth players got a game.

Agree, there seems some unwritten rule that if you are a ruckman you don't kick. That is unless you are at WC.
-
I don't get this either, but the whole MFC part of this seems to be around who told who what and when. No one seems to be focussing on thing that matters most and that is a kid whose career may or may not be threatened. I hope there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes and Trenners has been guaranteed he is ok. People forget the pressure this kid has been under in a short career, the way he was made an example of with the sling tacking thing was an absolute disgrace in my opinion and I think the club should have gone in a lot harder on that. 186, Bailey's sacking, the captaincy through the current turmoil, the supplements, Dank biz. No wonder he is a bit slow at the moment carrying the amount of weight he is on his young shoulders.

Look, no one knows for sure but it is to do with AOD964 not being listed as a banned substance but no being approved for human use it falls under a catch all which means it is by default Illegal and banned. With this whole thing there is so much information that counters other information so who really knows but the stuff Trengove is said to have been prescribed is an over the counter cream that has been approved for human use. Putting 2 and 2 together you would think he is ok. My understanding of this is the same as 'bings', but hey we could be way off the mark. Nothing new here just opinion but it would seem logical, if anything in this whole fiasco is logical.
