Chaser, have you seen much of Dean Gore? I was very impressed with him in the last game. Could end up a real bargain pick.

...and they didn't let the game develop into mauls, blew the whistle and got on with it. Be interesting to see if this continues for the weekend and beyond. My guess is it won't.

Players to target at the end of the year
rjay replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
There is a reason the AFL give clubs draft penalties and a reason why those clubs are trying to trade back into the draft. It is important we always bring in new talent (or we pay a huge penalty in a couple of years) and we have traded to many of these picks over the last few years. Clark, Dawes, Vince. The Tyson trade was good as we got one new and one demonstrator model, Clark was a bust, Dawes is a battler on field and Vince was a good trade up for Silvia. If we can get Petracca or McCartin then we should take them. Players like O'Rourke are not worth an early pick. -
Sorry 'Jack', beat me by that much...

Not sure on this 'Machsy', I guess it's a wait and see. I think if St Kilda or Brisbane get pick one they will take McCartin. If either get pick 2 then St Kilda may go for Petracca but Brisbane with pick 2 would go with Wright. There's no guarantees that we won't have a top 2 pick.

Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>
rjay replied to Jonesbag's topic in Melbourne Demons
I find it impossible to believe that at least one player out of 40+ didn't discuss the program with their manager or the players association. -
Funny...I can't seem to find the bit where Roos says as many as 10 will be moved on.

Couldn't agree with you more. The player agents are in hiding on this, they're happy to take their percentage but what about looking after the players. You can't tell me they didn't know what was going on at Essendon yet they never raised an objection. The players association is in the same boat. As for Reid, he was in it up to his eye balls unfortunately for the players. -

On the money 'Andrew', They see Vardy as very important to their future. I'm not so sure, apart from the odd cameo he hasn't shown a lot to get me enthused. -
He does want out but so far he hasn't been settled in a position. Has the rare pairing of speed and endurance along with his size. I don't know where his best position is but like a lot of his team mates he hasn't been handled well.
-
Looks a better balanced side 'KC', a bit of height back and forward.

With the way the game is being umpired not to the rules it means it's very hard for Howe to play forward. He was being shepherded illegally off the contest consistently, it seems you can do that in the Evans, Campbell, Kennedy led umpiring fraternity. Don't worry about the rule book boys we just make em up as we go.

Yeah it is more difficult and I really don't want to see a time where players flag they are moving to another club during the season. I think it would be a retrograde step rather than a mature one as clowns like Hutchie seem to think. I hate the way they have tried to manipulate the debate on this.
-
I don't like this at all and hope we never see it in our game. In fact Cameron Smith has said before that he doesn't really like this aspect of League despite some of our media clowns (Hutchy) saying we need to grow up. There is nothing grown up in my opinion about treating the game purely as a money sport (even though it is more often than not) rather than a game where passion is still a big part of it.

Very clean hands, good kick and good awareness.

THE WILSON FILE - the arrogance at the heart of the innuendo
rjay replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Denham got the gist of one of Smith's articles a...about. Smith nominated him for goose of the week, all in good fun I think but who knows. As an old mate of mine says, many a true thing said in jest. -

Sewell is shot, can't get on the ground without doing a hammy. Once they start going like this there is no going back, he would be a wasted place on the list. -
I'm waiting for some potential draftee's parents to come out and say our kid will not be going to GWS. A lot of kid's futures have been put in doubt being drafted up there already. Some really good talent is not getting a fair go.

I don't really think he is worth that 'Mike'. A real outside player who struggles with a tag and can't get his own ball, not what we want. -

Not sure on that one either but feel Roos would have a good handle on his true value. That's an advantage we have. Agree on Greenwood, he's been good but his disposal is very iffy. If we're spending that kind of money it has to be for a potential A grader. -

I understand the conversation but it came off a point I made earlier about who would be packaged up with Mitchell for one pick. I agree with you that there is no way you would trade 2 top 10 picks for those two. I know your posts well enough 'steve' to know you would never have suggested that. ...and as for Rohan, I know a lot are sceptical and for good reason. The only reason I would put Rohan in the mix is that we have Roos and Stone on board who would be all over him as a player and know if he is right for us or not. If we went for him at the end of the year you can bet that he would be a good get. -
Honestly a lot of our problems have nothing to do with playing on, they have a lot to do with the list not being good enough. There is no one to kick to and the one with the ball is often not a good enough kick or decision maker to hit what would be the right target if we had one.
-
We are also in desperate need of tall talent, particularly if Frawley goes. We have one legitimate key back in Tommy Mac, one legitimate forward yet to play a game in Hogan and a workhorse in Dawes and Jamar on his last legs in the ruck. Why do we think Casey are struggling? Yes a lot of the VFL guys are not to the standard but also they have a lack talls. We have no backups let alone top liners. Clark left a big hole, Frawley will just make it deeper and we have to hope Hogan gets on the park. Big ask for a kid. The reality is our list needs major surgery still and we need players in all positions if we are to be competitive let alone a finals chance.
-
I'm not sure there slowing the play down, it's more that players aren't in position. I hope he keeps his natural flair too 'P-man'.

Agree it's confidence to take the game on all around.
